Ski trip interrupted
We booked four nights at this property. Two days into the stay there was a plumbing emergency in the basement. The downstairs toilet was backed up and water was leaking on the floor. We checked the adjacent furnace room and noticed water on the floor as well. The entire house began smelling like sewage (i.e., rotten eggs). We immediately contacted the host and showed them the issue and we turned off the water main. Regarding the smell, the host responded that “we could light candles and spray Febreze.” Though concerned, the host made light of the situation saying, “s*#t happens” and “at least the house didn’t blow up.” We were surprised by this reaction given the severity of the problem. The host then contacted plumbing and septic companies. The plumbing company found that a washcloth had been flushed down the toilet and was the cause of the flooding. The host then claimed, without any evidence, that one of our children flushed a washcloth down the toilet. Our kids have traveled throughout the U.S. and internationally and have never flushed anything aside from toilet paper. They have never done this in our home. The plumbing situation meant that we wouldn’t have access to water, so we had to pack up all of our belongings two days into our vacation with three kids and four days' worth of food and find another place to stay. We missed half a day of skiing while we dealt with the issue. The entire experience was exhausting and put a lot of undue stress on the family.
