Thank you for your compliments regarding the house and its location. Depending upon the manner in which guests during the weeks prior to your arrival cared for the house, it is possible to observe some wear and tear late in the season after 20 to 25 families have been at the house before you. That is the reason that we use every off-season to repair, refresh and upgrade the interior and exterior of the house. I must admit it is a rather nice place to work on maintenance during the off-season so we don’t mind the off-season work at all!

Thank you for the 5 star rating despite the challenges you faced with Hurricane Florence approaching the coast of North Carolina. We were as happy as you were that we found one open week at Castle by the Sea during which you could return to finish your well-deserved vacation. We make sure the kitchen and other areas of the home are furnished with all of the essentials plus more conveniences at the beginning of each season so we are pleased to hear that you found most everything still at the house. Dennis, Thank you for your feedback. We have been advised that the beautiful tile we recently installed in the kitchen was not a good choice for an oceanfront home because these houses are built on pilings that allow the property to move just enough in wind storms to crack floor tile which is designed not to move. We plan to upgrade the flooring during the off-season.

Thank you for the compliments regarding the deck furniture. After replacing each year the typical deck furniture used by homes on the Outer Banks, we decided there must be higher quality products on the market. We invested a small fortune in the more than 20 pieces of commercial grade deck furniture most often found at luxury resorts. The fact that the product is made from recycled plastics was an added bonus because the product is environmentally friendly. The advantage of being close to public access is that the County mans a lifeguard station at that entrance, providing comfort to our guests that their children will be safe in the ocean. We may have read more into your comment about the beds being “decent” than you intended, but we listen carefully to what our guests say and what they don’t say. In this case, your comment prompted us to research better sleeping solutions for our guests. Based on extensive research, we are beginning to upgrade the beds with mattresses using a combination of support foam similar to that used in the Space Shuttle topped by the highest quality gel-infused memory foam designed to be cooler than traditional memory foam. We also added a second 28 cu. ft. stainless steel French Door refrigerator in the kitchen that will better accommodate your family’s needs when you return. We also appreciate your noting that we were very responsive to all of your needs.

We are thrilled that you returned for a second year and that you plan to return in the future. We appreciate all of our guests, but we find that returning guests treat Castle by the Sea as they would treat their own homes. We also find that returning guests offer some of the best suggestions for improvements that we can make. We have upgraded from a propane pool heater to a heat pump because the ocean winds frequently blew out the flame on the propane heater so we are pleased that it worked so well for your family. We work hard to satisfy the requests of our guests so thank you for noting that it was a pleasure to work with us.

Thank you for your delightful observations regarding the design and location of Castle by the Sea. Since your departure, we have upgraded the WiFi to extend throughout the house and to the outside decks and pool areas. Since Castle by the Sea has become so popular, we find that it is necessary to repair, refresh and upgrade the interior and exterior of the house during each off-season to return it to peak condition for the next rental season. I must admit it is a rather nice place to work on maintenance during the off-season so we don’t mind the off-season work at all! We hope to see you again next year!
