The Carriage House is close to town and on beautiful grounds. The host was very accommodating and the house was very clean. Laundry facilities were convenient. We would stay here again.

The stay was great, close to town just off the main road. House was clean and well kept, the garage was a BIG bonus! Property manager/Owner is right next door so if you need anything he is right there for the guests.

This VRBO is located on a beautiful property outside of town. It was very quiet and peaceful. The Carriage House was spotless and supplied us with everything we needed. John, the host was very friendly and accomadating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

We have stayed at MANY VRBOs, and very rarely have the opportunity to have face to face with the host. John is an amazing human and was very helpful with making recommendations for things to do in the area. The property was immaculate, and he has thought of EVERYTHING! Next time we're in Bayfield we'll definitely be staying again if we still haven't found property to buy.

Cozy and quiet

The property was wonderfully quiet. Seeing a bear eating in the wild from the safety of John’s deck was a big highlight. This property is also super close to Bayfield. But not so close you get the noise. Highly recommend

Wonderful time

My husband and I stayed at this cabin with another couple. We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean, and it was stocked with everything you would need. The owner of the cabin is right next door and is really friendly. He was always available if we had any questions about the cabin or the area. We will definitely be back.

Amazing Barndominium!

This house and its owner are simply the best. I was able to park my car inside the garage that opened into the lower level. The house was exceptionally clean and in a great location! Thank you John for being the perfect host!

Wooded Oasis!

This property was just great! The location is so close to town but has a secluded feel to it. The entire cabin itself was well equipped and having a tall garage that fit our truck with the kayaks still on top was super convenient. John was very friendly and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this property!

Charming Carriage House

We loved our accommodations In Bayfield. Our hosts, Barb and John, have a beautiful property. A welcoming change of pace from a hotel or B&B. We stayed 3 nights and found we had plenty to do in Bayfield and the surrounding area. Make sure to kayak the sea caves of Lake Superior and bike around Madeline Island. If we had more time and the weather cooperated we would have rented a sailboat for a day (captain included). Hope to return soon, maybe in the winter to see the ice caves!!

Just Perfect

Jim and Barb were just amazing. The little house was very clean, up to date and private. It is near their personal residence, but we never felt invaded or unwelcome. They have a great little trail on the property and I great patio to sit out and look at the clear Bayfield sky. We have 4 in our group, including myself, we had plenty of room. It is also not far from town, we rode our bikes. We all plan on going back!

A beautiful stay! John is informative and friendly. We love his property, the trail is just awesome and neat full of gorgeous trees. John even invited us for bear watching, wow. The cabin is clean and comfortable. Love everything here

The hospitality was amazing. John went out of his way to make us feel welcome. For example, he gave us referrals for hiking and sightseeing. He also recommended a great place for pizza and even called them to see if we could get in.

John is retired from the Houston Police Department where he served for 28 years. He joined the force in 1982 and after 4 years of working Patrol, he joined the SWAT Team and remained with that division until his retirement in 2010. John has worked with Secret Service and other dignitary protection groups serving four presidents and numerous high profile individuals. He has a thorough understanding of one’s privacy and security and strives to ensure it.

Varför vÀrden valde detta boende

John Murphy is no stranger to the north. John was actually born in Racine, Wisconsin and grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Muskegon, Michigan. After 30 years in the big city, it was time to retire. While John was vacationing in Northern Wisconsin, one of the locals suggested visiting Bayfield; so headed north to the city of Bayfield. Within the first few minutes of arriving, John knew he was back “Up North”; quaint shops; islands; friendly residents; and, of course, the big water - Lake Superior. It was like coming home. With sights set high, John headed back to Houston, sold his home and moved to Bayfield in August of 2010. Their new home and Carriage House Rental is situated on 10 beautifully wooded acres just one mile north of town.

Located on 10 wooded acres with a 1/2 mile hike/jog trail that runs along the property with it's own creek. John has assorted wildlife on the property including Black Bear, Bobcat, Deer, Coyote, Wolf, Raccoon, and Fox. The Carriage house is equipped with all the comforts of home and if you need any special requests, we can have it for you in minutes. You will have a 600 sq ft heated garage where you can store your equipment instead of being one of the many unfortunate visitors that have to keep all their toys on or attached to the vehicles. Located next to the Apostle Islands which is controlled by the National Park Service. You will find Seacaves along the islands and mainland. Kayaking, canoeing and boating is a lifetime experience along the Islands. You can paddle to one of the 21 islands and hike or even camp in areas pristine with nature and solitude.
After experiencing the thousands of acres of nature; walk, ride or drive one mile into town and shop at all the shops or eat at one of many restaurants while looking over Lake Superior and the islands. Want more culture?? Take in a show at the Big Top Chautauqua or at Stage North. You will see famous performers as well as our local artists. Don't forget the Bayfield Apple Festival or the Dog Sled Races or the Bayfield in Bloom or the Fall Harvest Celebration or the Blessing of the Fleet or 'whew!'
