Bluebird Hills Log Cabin
Welcome to Blue Bird Hills Cabin! We hope you find the cabin to be as peaceful and restorative as can be. There is nothing better than sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee watching the myriad of birds at the feeder or watching a summer storm role through.
The bones of this beautiful cabin come from an 1800s Kentucky log cabin. In 1975 the logs of the cabin were disassembled and put back together here on Upper Schooner Road in Nashville, Indiana. The large hand-hewn logs set the tone for what is truly a piece of art. The current Owners acquired the property in 2013, updating and restoring the cabin to what it is today. The cabin is ideally situated on a bucolic dead-end road. Schooner Valley is surrounded on three sides by parkland and the cabin is minutes away from the West Entrance to the Brown County State Park – home to world class walking and mountain bike trails. Beautiful Nashville, Indiana is less than a 10 minute drive and Bloomington, with its great restaurants and Indiana University campus, is a 20 minute drive.
When you arrive at the cabin, you cannot help but be struck by beautiful views and lovely landscaping. If you are fortunate enough to come in early spring, you will be treated to the most spectacular array of daffodils. The cabin’s stunning exterior of hand-hewn logs, aged board and batten, the gorgeous Indiana stone fireplace and dark metal roof create the quintessential log cabin vibe.
Upon entering the cabin there is a large and welcoming fireplace with a hearth made for sitting in front of a cozy gas fireplace. The living space is tastefully decorated with a sofa and gorgeous leather swivel chairs and is open to the rest of the main floor. The dining area has a large farm table (an antique door converted into a table with wrought iron legs) that sits in front of a bay window. The kitchen maintains the warm feel of exposed beams, while boasting cathedral ceilings and large windows to capture the natural beauty of the surroundings. There is a farm sink with dark granite countertops and a breakfast bar with three tall stools – the perfect space for cooking and hanging together. Off the kitchen area, you will find a cool old door with a large window that takes you down to the walk out lower level and game room. The game room has a large sectional sofa that fits plenty of people - the perfect place to a watch a movie or your favorite sports team. The back half of the room is home to a gorgeous pool table with exposed wood legs and a black felt surface. Those waiting their turn to shoot can sit on the wrought iron bar stools with the rotating leather seats.
The main floor bathroom has a large walk-in shower with gorgeous stone tiles and a built-in bench. Off the main living space is the door to one of the highlights of the cabin, the front porch. The rocking chairs and porch swing make this an ideal place to relax and take in the view. The wooden coffee table has a built in chess/checker’s board for those that like to play.
The stairs up to the second floor boast the amazing iron work of a local artisan. The signature tree silhouettes can be found on the railings of all three floors, highlighting the rustic beauty of Blue Bird Hills Cabin. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a half bath. The larger of the two bedrooms has a sitting area and both have vaulted ceilings with exposed wood. Like the rest of the cabin, the bedrooms are tastefully appointed and create an inviting and restful atmosphere.
For those that enjoy games, go downstairs tot he family/game room and there is a dart board in the back corner near the pool table. In addition, the cabinet under the stairs (with the rustic wooden door) contains lots of board games and puzzles. We ask that you put all the pieces back in the box and put the games/puzzles back in the cabinet when done. Let us know if there are any other games you think we should add to the repertoire! Off the game room is the lower level master ensuite with a king sized bed. The master bathroom has beautiful stone tiled floors and a walk-in shower. There is also a washer/dryer available for your use.
The sliding glass doors on the lower level lead to another cabin highlight – an outdoor shower and a hot tub! The natural Indiana stone backing, antique brick base, weathered barnboard sides and views of the valley make for a glorious place to take a shower.
In the front yard there is a firepit for those who want to sit out by a campfire and plenty of room for croquet, bocce and tether ball.
