Horrific - Avoid this unit at ANY COST - DISGUSTING
First Off: Kamaole Sands is a fantastic place, the amenities are great.
The UNIT itself was by far the worst place I have stayed in my last 20+ years of visiting Hawaii.
Specifically:
The good: The ground floor unit was fantastic for allowing my 5 year old to go out the door and play on the huge, healthy and well manicured lawn.
The bad:
-The unit is located immediately adjacent to the garbage, stairwell and elevator. That means that when you are in bed you hear every stairwell door open/close, elevator ding every time the doors opens, the garbage truck pickup (early AM multiple times per week) is also blasting into your BR.
-WiFi/Cell in bedroom is terrible. Because the stair well and elevator shaft are huge and concrete they block the cell signals. The WiFi comes from the front of the unit and does not reach the BR.
- The unit is very old, very tired and disgusting.
--The cloth couch is gross, has stains, smells and looks as if it has never been cleaned. The fold-out frame is a non-starter for an adult because the metal bars are all you really feel.
-- The carpet is fraying and peeling back at every carpet/tile joint. Both my wife and son poked their feet on the exposed carpet tacks.
--The carpet is raunchy, it was well vacuumed by the cleaning staff but the carpet itself was stained in the living room and bedroom
-- The bedroom dresser drawer fell apart when we pulled it open. (We contacted the owners rep through VRBO, another fail, nothing we mentioned got fixed).
--Dishwasher door was falling apart every time we opened the door.
-- The unit has a complete mishmash of supplies, miss-matched silverware, 3 coffee cups, 6 tea cup saucers... no tea cups. The pool only allows plastics cups.... not a single plastic cup in the unit (We went to Walmart, bought three cups and left them there as a gift).
--Cracks in the master bath sink and tub (rusting).
--The vacuum did not have a vacuum bag and we were not able to clean the unit while we were there (2 weeks).
-- No glass / cleaners available for the glass eating tables.
-Not a single pot holder and nothing to scrub a pot
- Not a stitch of supplies (e.g. no salt / pepper...we did leave some there)
- The communication with the owners via VRBO was also terrible.
We were set for a Wed check in. On Mon I started asking about the check in process. No answer, Tues another message, no response, Wed while we were traveling another message. Finally a response at check in time.
