New 2025 ~ True North is a special one bedroom retreat on a private lane overlooking tidal Western Bay and the mountains of Mount Desert Island! **Adult guests only please as the True North is not child proof** Enjoy your own private deck/entrance fully separated from the main house by locked, solid core double doors & sound proof drapes. It is less than 3 miles from Mount Desert Island/Trenton land bridge where you'll have access all of Mount Desert Island and the Park's beautiful carriage roads and challenging hiking trails all within a lovely 10-25 minute drive. After a full day of exploring, you will find respite back in True North. Whether it be sitting on your own deck watching the sunset reflecting off the mountains of Acadia & waters of the bay, watching the car lights travel back down Cadillac Mountain after the beautiful sunset, or counting the stars in the sky after dark ~ THIS is why we called our home, True North.
The apartment does not have a stove or kitchen sink although it has a gas griddle on the deck in addition to other conveniences inside: a microwave, mini refrigerator/freezer, toaster, Keurig coffee pot, hot water maker, bottled water. You can easily enjoy simple meals at home should you choose not to explore all the fine dining options the area has to offer. There is a grocery store, bakery, coffee shop and some of the finest lobster pounds all within a 2 mile area.
True North also offers daily dish washing service should you choose not to use the available paper products. Simply place all wiped dishes/cups/wine glasses in the bus tubs at the coffee station & place on your deck towards evening hours. I will pick up the tub and wash all everything in our dishwasher nightly. All kitchenware will be replaced as needed. Daily trash pickup is also available.
Our property sits on an earthen embankment (verses granite) about 15 feet above sea level. Although there is NO beach access, the vista of the mountains, ocean, and sky are amazing which we ask you to enjoy safely from your deck.
We often see palliated woodpeckers, osprey, and eagles. In the past, seals used to swim into the bay during tidal changes. Sadly, with warming waters in our shallower bay, these seals seem to stay out in deeper water now for meals. Several years ago, we had a MOOSE on our property before he moved on. Will we see another again?
Probably not but then again I NEVER thought there would have been even one!
One thing I have learned at True North is "never say never"!
During your stay and if you are outside when we are, you may also meet Rocky - our still in training one year old mini-bernedoodle. We are unable to accept animals at True North as he is still learning how to control his excitement of all living things including wild turkeys, deer, porcupines, skunks, groundhogs . . . you get the idea!
I'm hoping the above has answered most all of your questions while understanding how special True North IS! Hope to see you soon.
