Byggt mellan Scenic By-väg # 177 och BNSF spårar Frontier Store House i Matfield Green är så lugn som möjligt. Det började som en timmerstuga 1868. Town "utvecklare" David Mercer, efter vilken en närliggande bäck hette, byggdes det och körde en gräns butik och postkontor; några år senare, var en sten rum läggs. Både timmerstuga och sten rummet var bevaras när, i slutet av 1880-talet, var en två våningar Dessutom skapas.

Efter att ha stått tomt i mer än 40 år, var Frontier Store House vackert restaurerad och förnyas, och blev en bekväm mycket välisolerad familjen reträtt och pensionat.
Bara några steg från Tallgrass prairie och öppna marken, är detta hemma perfekt för långhelger och semester.

Redo för en Flint Hills äventyr? Tallgrass prärien kring Matfield Green är en nationell skatt värd att upptäcka. Strax norr om den lilla staden hittar du Pioneer Bluffs historiska ranch och The Gallery at Pioneer Bluffs. Den Tallgrass Prairie Bevara är 20 miles norr i Strong City. Cottonwood Falls är också värt ditt besök; ta en titt på historiska tingshuset och glöm inte att klättra upp för trapporna till den gamla fängelset. We had a wonderful stay; it was exactly what we needed. No TV, no electronic distractions, and plenty of nature as far as the eye can see all around you. Had a great time painting in the yard on canvas and playing board games with the family. Plenty of hiking opportunities with many photo opportunities exist around here, and I even had the chance to see a herd of bison.

It was very clean and simple. I loved the primitive appeal. The decor was historic and interesting. I would have liked to have been able to adjust the air conditioning a little lower as the air flow into the bedroom was not that great and it was very hot while we visited. It wasn't extremely uncomfortable but would have been nicer. I know that tvs aren't always considered necessary, but it would have been nice to have one to watch the news and check the weather.

We had a wonderful time driving through the Flint Hills and exploring the local towns. We loved how cozy the house was. We cooked several meals and enjoyed the large dining room table. We locked ourselves outside on the porch swing, without our keys and phones. Thankfully, we mustered up the courage to knock on a neighbor's door, who had the house manager's number. We were able to get back in and sleep soundly in one of the cozy beds. This was a wonderful stay if you want to decompress from the rapid pace of city life.

Cozy, great history, lovely hosts!

Such a lovely little home, feels filled with so much history. Hosts are just as lovely and the area is stunning. We very much enjoyed our stay, interesting books available to read, and the the kitchen was set up well for our needs. Beds are pretty firm, with comfortable linens, and fluffy towels. The trains being right outside was very interesting but if you are sensitive to sound, do bring your earplugs

Flint Hills Heaven

Lovely home, built around a log cabin, exposing the original logs. Furnished with tasteful antiques, well stocked kitchen, two bedrooms with separate baths. We enjoyed the trains passing by (no blasting horns!) The community is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend it.

Nice older style house

Enjoyed our stay there for the weekend. The train tracks are in the back yard so the trains going by woke us up so that was a little inconvenient. But other than that it was a pleasant stay!

Country Weekend

The house was as charming as it was in the pictures. We were there for a wedding at Pioneer Bluffs and the location couldn’t have been better! Our stay took us back to a simpler time that was more carefree!

Comfortable Escape

The house is a comfortable and cozy escape to the quiet and calm countryside of Chase County. Despite being near the BNSF line - the trains don’t honk or ring bells, so they’re relatively quiet and at night definitely helped me sleep. I look forward coming back sometime soon!

Cute but train noise

Very cute property, but railroad tracks right behind the house. A train was going by about every 20mins all night long. Could've sleep. Ear plugs would probably help.

A peaceful place

It was only 20 minutes from tallgrass praire national preserve and we loved the area. The house has a lot of charm with an essence from another time but with modern amenities. We would stay here again.

Beautiful place

Really nice house, with historic charm. Everything you need but not cluttered. Host was very responsive and had excellent communication about some minor storm damage. Trains run right behind house, but sound is muffled by stone walls and did not bother me at all. Well situated for touring Flint Hills.
