Relax and unwind in style and sample the very best that the Norwegian south coast has to offer.
AREA & ACTIVITIES
RisĂžr is an amazing seaside village on the Norwegian south coast and is one of the oldest towns in Norway. Situated on a peninsula between two fjords on the Skagerrak Sea, the town has a rich cultural heritage steeped in maritime history. Incredibly charming with roots dating back to the 1570s, the town was a major center for timber exports and shipbuilding. Most of the city center of RisĂžr got its shape after a big fire in 1861, which burned down more than 240 houses. Luckily the church was saved from the fire and is standing as one of Norwayâs most typical baroque churches, dating back to 1647.
Nicknamed "The White Town of Skageraak", RisĂžr is renowned for its beautifully preserved wooden houses, all painted white and whimsically located along its narrow streets. There are flowers everywhere and small benches to sit on to take a rest. Small paths lead you on a fairytale-like walk while you peek into local gardens. In this romantic place you will find large white villas down by the waterfront and winding narrow roads where many of the locals live or have their small shops. The locals are very welcoming, and they want you to feel their hospitality when you visit. Here and there you can follow the small roads and paths to viewpoints that give you stunning views over the town and the archipelago.
Today RisĂžr is designated a historically significant town and offers a vibrant art scene. It also hosts many great summer festivals, including the RisĂžr Chamber Music Festival and the RisĂžr Wooden Boat Festival. The culinary scene delivers a variety of options from casual cafes and bakeries to high-end dining. During the long summer nights of the north, you'll find people enjoying the bars, restaurants and nightlife, or sitting on the decks of their boats moored along the waterfront for a late nightcap. Favorite day-time activities include shopping, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, strolling the piers, or watching a local regatta from a favorite lookout.
A TYPICAL DAY
A typical day starts with coffee on the patio in the morning, followed by a refreshing swim in the ocean from our private dock. Then perhaps a short stroll into town for fresh pastries or newly baked bread, before returning to the house for a long and slow breakfast. The days are filled with local activities of all kinds, or relaxing reading and sunbathing on the terrace. Throughout the day there are boats of all sorts passing by making it fun to bring out the binoculars.
Lunch is usually enjoyed on the terrace or in town. We often cook at home and eat on the terrace or in the kitchen. Sometimes we use the wood burning fireplace for added ambiance. The large living room is a very comfortable retreat in the evenings for social conversations, games, watching TV, or reading. When itâs time to sleep, we open the windows to let in the fresh salty sea air and fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean lapping at the rocks below.

Om vÀrden
Christian Holmsen Àr vÀrd

I live in Colorado but grew up in Oslo, Norway. During my childhood RisĂžr was my favorite place to make port on our family sailing trips up and down the coast. I also have several friends with homes in RisĂžr. So, when I started looking for my own summer house it was a natural place to look.
I eventually found the perfect house and am now using it as a summer retreat for myself, family, and friends. But since I can't be there the whole summer, I think it is a great place to share with someone looking for a very high-quality vacation experience. I am excited to learn what you think.

Vad som gör detta boende unikt
The house is amazing and steep in history - one of the most elegant and charming homes in RisĂžr located on a prime ocean front lot among only a dozen or so waterfront homes facing the bay, islands and sea to the east. You will enjoy sweeping views of the bay from nearly every room in the house.
Originally built in 1776, the year of American Independence, the property has been home to sea captains and fishermen alike. Fully renovated in 2005, it combines historic ambiance with modern comfort and elegance. It's a commodious home for Norwegian standards, and well-appointed too. Youâll enjoy classy tiling, untreated oak wood floors, wood-paneled walls and ceilings in soft neutral colors, custom bathroom fixtures, and quality kitchen appliances.
Upstairs in the main house there are 3 comfortable bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, as well as a living room/office. The annex affords great privacy for a couple or family with young children with its large bedroom and sitting area, private bath, and a secondary room/alcove with a cozy sleeping nook.
When it's time to sleep, we open the windows to let in the fresh salty sea air and fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean lapping at the rocks below.
