There was lots of noise from the street, but that's to be expected from an old building, and the host left a white noise machine. It was an adorable little suite in a wonderful location.

It is a perfect location to stay at for the shopping and the restaurants and bars. We definitely needed more wash cloths and towels but overall, it was very nice.

This property is super cute and clean. You are really in the center of it all. Location is great for walking, shopping, dining, and nightlife! The party does go late, so you might want to pack earplugs. ;) All in all, a positive experience!

The place was super clean and as described. It was right in the middle of everything which was great for daytime activities. Shopping and restaurants were fantastic. Great place, across the street, for brunch. The bars at night though were VERY noisy which was so unexpected. The noise lasted until 1-2am.

Great St. Charles location

This unit is on the main floor in downtown St. Charles. Perfect location to bike Katy Trail and explore the area. Note: It can get loud at night until establishments close by close; but being downtown you have to expect.

The host was great and responded very promptly! I'm starting with cons just to end on a good note. The first thing is though the place was clean, I do feel like a better job could be done in the bathroom area. There was hair in the shower and on the toilet, as well as on the bed, but that could have just been from leaning over to change the bedding. The only other con I really have is the noise! I didn't take other reviews on noise seriously because I'm a heavy sleeper and I loved the charm of the area. TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY! You can hear EVERYTHING inside and especially outside. Everything from putting codes in doors to people trying to put in codes to your door outside on the street, to loud music until 2am, cars and motorcycles revving up their engines going down the street and people literally outside your room and windows from the street until 2am. I was woke up throughout the night each night and was exhausted the next day from no good sleep. That said, the place and area really is beautiful. The shops and restaurants literally outside your doorstep are convenient and adorable. The room has that old building feel with a modern twist, which is beautiful. The mini fridge kept things cold and the bed is comfy. If you're a night owl, it's perfect!!
Beautiful, open to the street outside
Side windows to walkway between buildings from one side
Street view through front window

4/10 Dåligt

This VRBO is fairly new and has potential, but it still has a few kinks to work out. For instance, there were only two towels provided, and while the listing mentioned a futon for extra sleeping space, there were no sheets or covers for it. Basic amenities like shampoo and soap were also missing, and the shower curtain rod kept falling down. The location is excellent—just a short walk to the charming shops and restaurants of old St. Charles, and direct access to the Katy Trail for walking or biking. However, being in such a central area also meant it was quite noisy at night, with loud activity continuing until 2 a.m. on one occasion. My biggest concern, though, was safety. I arrived late at night and entered through the back entrance, only to find the door to my unit wide open—not just unlocked, but open. On another day, a UPS driver walked straight through the front door, thinking the unit was a business. Strangely, I had never unlocked the front door, and after he left, I couldn’t even get it open myself.Overall, while the location is great, the property needs some important updates and clearer security measures before I would feel comfortable staying again.

In the middle of it all...for better or worse

I have struggled with determining my rating of the Opulent Owl at the Divine Otter. First, let me say the space is beautiful both inside and out. It was true to the pictures online, clean, well appointed, and the hosts were excellent and prompt in their communication. Secondly, my wife and I booked this for a quiet weekend away. We have stayed on the opposite end of Main Street in St. Charles several times and were looking for a quiet relaxing weekend. When we arrived we parked out back, walked up the alley, and entered from the street side, which was easy. Once we set everything down we realized the door from the rear of the building leads into a hallway that opens into the bedroom. It is the main point of entry for the other residents. What we found was that you can hear everything from the hall in the bedroom and vice-versus. It is a small hotel so it wasn't too bothersome. We expected some street noise based on the pictures of the location, but it was egregious. The location is right in the middle of lots of bars and restaurants...for better or worse. The hotel has bars on both sides of it. Between 9pm-2am there was constant music and loud drunken behavior outside which is impossible to drown out in the apartment. We contacted the hosts the next morning who were very gracious and quick to respond. I think this space may be a great spot for people looking to take advantage of the nightlife. I am sure it is quieter during a weekday or winter time.It was beautiful, but noisy

Location was perfect however we had no knowledge that the property was in between to lively bars. The noise from 9 pm to closing. If you’re into partying, this is the perfect place to stay if you’re not I suggest that you look for somewhere else.

This was a wonderful property! People watching out the window over coffee or wine was the highlight of the stay. The location is almost perfect. We don’t mind the sounds of the city, but if you really need absolute quiet at night, this may not be what you are looking for as your can hear the hustle and bustle of Main Street. Mr. Meowski’s is such a gem (bakery just a few doors down)…so make sure to check it out!
