I was born and raised in Wisconsin, while Laurie grew up just across the border in Michiganâs Upper Peninsula. In 2018, I purchased a piece of land in this beautiful regionâa place we had both long been drawn to for its abundant waterfalls, rich mining history, and endless opportunities for exploration.
When we met, we discovered a shared dream: to one day build a cabin tucked deep in the woods, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Whittlesey.
That dream began to take shape in the summer of 2024, and by the summer of 2025, it became a reality. The cabin was completedâa peaceful retreat and a lasting reflection of our love for this land and the journey that brought us here.

We were drawn to this area of northern Wisconsin for its unmatched natural beauty, peaceful seclusion, and rich sense of history. Itâs a place where the forests are thick with pines, the air feels clean and crisp, and waterfalls, trails, and old mining roads seem to wait around every corner.
We especially love how the location offers the best of both worldsâquiet and privacy on our own wooded acreage, yet just a short drive from Mellen and other local gems. Being so close to Copper Falls State Park and countless UTV/ATV trails makes it perfect for outdoor lovers like us.
This region just felt like home from the moment we first set foot here. Building our cabin in the foothills of Mt. Whittlesey was a way to stay connected to that feelingâand now weâre excited to share it with others.
