Villa 19 was Awesome

This was a fabulous property to stay at. It was larger and nicer than what I expected. The local contact and the maid service were very nice and professional. I plan on returning and staying there again!

Views!

I'll admit, I'm somewhat biased. I've stayed at Tracey's properties before and I'll start by saying that you will be hard pressed to find a more attentive and accommodating host and support staff than Tracey and his team. We rented a car for convenience but the property location does not demand it. The main strip, grocery store, beach, casino, restaurants, almost everything you might need is within a 10 minute walk. The views, gated security, pool, Jacuzzi, and wifi all exceeded expectations. All of the listed amenities were as advertised. Where I would leave room for improvements are some of the niceties that I have come to expect from Tracey (no safe yet). Not that anyone goes on vacation to watch TV, but we found the single TV / entertainment and sitting area a bit underwhelming for a property this size. It may still be impressive compared to some of the other rentals in the area complete with a small DVD collection but when I stay with Tracey I have come to expect excellence. Also, some of the furnishings were in the process of being upgraded as I understand the property has recently changed hands. While in town we enjoyed a number of activities and restaurants, sorry I can't remember them all but Bailey's was the most consistent for food, and Mofongo King on the beach (with wifi). If you play poker check out Playa Chaquita Casino in the evenings for an action no limit hold 'em tournament and cash game. For dancing Kvair and Classico were both a great time. Also if you don't mind getting a little dirty you can negotiate the 3 hour 4 wheeler tour with some fun terrain and scenic routes for around $60 USD per person (we weren't very tough negotiators so perhaps you can do better). I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends or relatives.

Optional and miscellaneous items:

Car and motor bike rentals are available at the airports or in town at reasonable costs.

Cost for transportation is $25 each way from Puerto Plata Airport (POP) and $100 each way from Santiago airport (STI).

On call drivers can be arranged.

For many activities you can simply walk to the beach or ask one of our recommended drivers to take you to the desired location.

One of our favorite spots to sun and swim is the beach area near The Waterfront restaurant (10 minute walk) in Sosua. Sosua beach (10 minute walk) is also beautiful and much larger but typically a bit more busy.

Water activities and sports abound in Sosua beach and nearby Cabarete beach (10 minutes away driving). Sosua beach has beautiful natural reefs that you can experience via glass bottom boats, snorkeling or scuba diving. Sosua also offers speed boat rides, towable tubes and fishing excursions. Iguana Mama also has rafting and kayaking adventures but be prepared for a nice ride to the central region of the DR (in Sosua you are on the north coast). A zip line and monkey jungle excursion in El Choco is 20 minutes away.
