Far from mass tourism lies Makry Gialos with its golden sandy beaches and a small fishing port. Set against a stunning mountain backdrop and overlooking the sparkling waters of Makry Gialos Bay, Grapevines is a complex of 20 luxurious, three-story, self-catering villas grouped around a large private courtyard and an illuminated 20-meter swimming pool.The complex offers a quiet, idyllic atmosphere
Our property is set back from the road on the west side of the complex and features a private panoramic balcony accessible from the mid-level lounge and a large sun terrace on the top floor. Both offer shade at midday and breathtaking views of the sunset over the bay in the evening. A smaller balcony overlooks the pool and allows early risers a glimpse of the sun rising between the mountains. The master bedroom has its own private bathroom and a private garden terrace. The main rooms are air-conditioned. Utilities are included.Makry Gialos Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag! Distance to Lagufa Beach: 7 minutes.
Diaskari Beach: 10 minutes.
Golden Beach: 10 minutes.

Fantastic place and surrounding

What a calm and beautiful place this is. We are more than satisfied, the house has everything one would need; clean, beautiful and close to everything. The communication with the owners was super smooth and the lady who was in charge of taking care of the house and the keys (Chrysa) was really helpful during all our stay. There is a booklet in the house with lots of suggestions on what to see/do and where to eat, which is great. If you want to experience a real local hidden place in Crete, this is where to stay and go. Good to know is that the pool is not heated, we stayed in June and it was a bit chilly in the pool.

Wonderful and cosy flat

The apartment is very clean and comfy. The pool is a dream and well maintained. Bedrooms are at the ground floor. Living room and kitchen in the 1st floor. We really liked our stay here.

Great Villa and Location

Our second stay here and it was just as good as the first time. Spacious and well equipped. Air conditioning kept it comfortable at night. Brilliant pool just a few metres away and with the beach and village just a few minutes walk everything you need is within easy access. We had a small water leak in the bathroom but 30 minutes after reporting it a member of staff arrived and it was quickly fixed. We were expecting a clean at the end of the first week. It wasn’t a big deal and we could have chased it up.

Great Location Grear Pool Great Accomodation

We stayed in Gapevines over the summer and our stay was great and everyone enjoyed the accomdation. On the ground floor there are 2 bedrooms, as a result the bedrroms are cooler, so great for sleeping. The main bedroom has a terrace, patio doors and ensuite with shower. The first floor has the sitting area, dinning area, and kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked and has a full size oven, hob and microwave. The 1st full has a small terece over looking the pool and larger terrace which you can eat out on it has 6 seat table to and chairs. On the top level is a large sun terrace. Nearby there are 2 beaches within walking distance and numerous restuarants which serve a wide variety of food I would recommned this property and would definately stay here again

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Grapevines, the villa, location and weather were all perfect. The villa and pool were well maintained with plenty of advice and support from the owner and management. The location is lovely on the outer edge of the town but still with shops and great restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Great location, quite spacious and well equipped. Air con was essential in August. Very convenient for local beaches, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The pool is splendid. The only downside was that in common with other holiday rentals the kitchen knives are blunt and the beds are really hard.

Superb picturesque quiet Crete

Lovely relaxing location, with easy access to delightful quiet and sandy beaches. Excellent set of local tavernas providing great food at sensible prices. Seems unspoilt by the Travel industry and an area that still is able to give an authentic Greek experience. Amazing stay

The property was lovely and clean, however, not ideal for those who have mobility issues as the stairs to the kitchen and living room was quite tight. Owner of the property was very responsive and recommended great places to eat and the beaches were lovely. If you are looking for a relaxing break, this place is definitely the place to visit.

Perfekter Urlaub in tollem Ferienhaus

Wir haben zwei wunderschöne Wochen im Grapevines und in Makrigialos verbracht. Sehr schönes Haus in einer wunderbaren Anlage mit großem Pool. Wir haben im uns dort sehr wohl gefĂŒhlt. Das Haus mit den drei Balkonen war fantastisch. Auch die zwei BĂ€der und Schlafzimmer waren sehr praktisch. Ausstattung mit KĂŒche etc. hatte auch alles, was man so benötigt, sogar ein Smart-TV. Kommunikation mit Ian und Lucas war sehr gut, Tips sehr hilfreich. In Makrigialos mit den schönen StrĂ€nden und den netten Tavernen ist alles in fußlĂ€ufiger NĂ€he erreichbar, Ziele in der Umgebung Sitia, Ierapetra, Agios Nikolaos und die minoischen Ausgrabungen mit dem Mietauto erkundet! Wir können das Domizil uneingeschrĂ€nkt weiterempfehlen.

Lovely property in a lovely complex

The villa itself was well equipped with everything you would need. Large and spacious. Lovely pool in complex and a short walk to tavernas. Information given by Ian the owner was a great help with recommended restaurants to eat and places to visit. Would highly recommend renting this property.

Crete without the crowds

Perfect third visit to Grapevines. Different villa each time, but the consistency of property quality matched with a sparklingly clean pool remains the same. Beds are comfy. Excellent showers with enough hot water for me and my two post teen daughters, which means enough for anyone. Aircon so efficient that it's not needed for long, kitchen equipped with everything you could need, including a dishwasher. Washing machine and a sunny roof terrace that could dry the wettest washing in an afternoon (along with front and rear balconies, one of which always has some shade). Beach towels, clothes pegs, dishwasher tablets and a decent range of books are the kind of touches that make these villas special. It's the best part of two hours from the airport, but it's an easy drive, especially when you know that at the other end you'll find a really nice holiday home at the top of an easy walking hill packed with good value tavernas and mini markets. There might be some other English voices around, and everyone speaks the language in the restaurants and bars, but this is also an area that the Greeks come to holiday, which contributes to the "undiscovered" vibe. You won't find an all you can eat buffet, but you may have to choose your favourite ice cream shop. And that might be the most difficult decision of your trip. Don't miss Diaskari (Green Beach), which although within walking distance is worth taking the car to. Giorgios doesn't own the taverna any more, but is still there to rent you a $10 'kiosk' with a hammock and a couple of sunbeds, just inches away from the clearest and most snorkel-friendly beach on the island. The taverna there remains my favourite too. Fabulous food (the fried zucchini are a must), fresh juice, cold beer, great vista. Makrigialos is lovely. Grapevines couldn't be a nicer, calmer place. Ian is a perfect host. Book with confidence..

Not able to stay but excellent to deal with

Unfortunately we were unable to take our holiday as my wife caught Covid just before we were due to go. Ian was very flexible and accomodating when we were trying to sort out rearranged dates, including inconvenient arrival times - which we were also unable to take in the end as my wife didn't recover in time. So a five star rating on the basis of Ian's communications and flexibity when we needed it.

Fantastic!

A beautiful town house in a stunning development on the edge of the village of Makrygialos. The 20m pool and gardens were amazing but it was only a10 mins walk to the waterfront where there were numerous tavernas which served great food at very reasonable prices. There were lots of lovely quiet beaches nearby. We also walked the Pefki gorge and Butterfly gorge which were close by. We loved our holiday and I'm sure we'll be going back very soon. The owner was very helpful and communication was great.

Prachtige locatie

Heerlijk vakantie gehad op een prachtige locatie. Huis is ruim en je kan aan alle kanten buiten zitten. Zo kan je zon en schaduw afwisselen. Zwembad is geweldig. In de periode dat wij er waren, hadden we het zwembad bijna voor ons alleen. Fijn dat je ligbedden en een parasol voor de deur hebt. Goede contacten met de eigenaar gehad, hij heeft ons vele tips gegeven. Wij raden deze locatie zeker aan.

Lovely

Overall a lovely holiday the villa had a small amount of damage which was rectified in hours, brilliant pool but the only downside would be the upside down living which is Cretan style the spiral stairs were a bit steep so anyone with mobility problems run the risk. Apart from that a really nice relaxing hol.
