Our entire family loved our stay! The scenery was breathtaking. We especially loved getting up early to watch the birds in the morning. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful adobe home with spectacular views! The host - Julie - was wonderful - very helpful and responsive. My husband and I enjoyed our 2 week stay here near our daughter’s ranch in nearby Cerrillos.

Winter get away

We came for a long weekend to explore the area. The house is cozy, designed well and has beautiful natural light. We particularly enjoyed the night sky and the indoor fireplace.

A wonderful retreat!

My family and I loved this getaway and wished we had stayed longer. The house is well furnished and fully equipped, very comfortable and pleasant. The veranda is a great spot for morning coffee or meals to watch the sun go down. The silence and star-filled nights were a real treat.

The perfect little get away

This home is the perfect little secluded place to get away, relax, watch the amazing sunset every night, yet close enough to drive into town for shopping and a meal. The home was clean, had everything we needed, and the views were amazing. We will be back!

An Awesome New Mexico Experience

We hiked, drove around the Galisteo Basin, ate at the cafe, did Cerrillos, Santa Fe and Madrid. Had a great monsoon the last night. Honestly did not want to leave.

Picturesque Retreat

A charming adobe home tucked in the hills outside Santa Fe. It was just the scenic view we had imagined. One highlight is the large bedroom window which allows you to admire the spectacular star filled sky. It took my breath away!

Spectacular Rural

Why would you stay in a hotel? The house is very rural and was a great base for northern new mexico field trips. The house has everything and uninterupted views in every direction. I spent one day just walking and inspecting the acreage.

Desert getaway

Quiet, private casita in a lovely area of high desert. Not luxurious but has everything you need for a good stay. Clean, comfortable and has great character. I was welcomed by the Jackrabbits, serenaded by the coyotes. Evening thunderstorms were the best entertainment.

Just right for us

The casita is cozy, comfy, and in a beautiful setting. The host, Julie was wonderful to deal with beforehand when we had questions, or wanted to extend our stay. We were delighted to be in this remote and isolated location. I do need to say that it might not be for everyone as there are no stores or restaurants or other amenities within about 10 miles, and Santa Fe is about 30 minutes away. We loved it!

Heaven on Earth

This was perhaps the most enjoyable trip I have ever taken, thanks in large part to the peace, comfort and bliss of this beautiful property. Quiet, gorgeous views, visiting with hummingbirds nearby and other wildlife at a very safe distance. It felt like another world yet so close to Santa Fe and the nearby pueblos. Julie and George were incredibly responsive (and responsible) before and during our stay. I can't say enough about this lovely property! THANK YOU, Kalmar family... from our hearts to yours. We will be back!

Traditional style in the beautiful desert just outside of Santa Fe

We loved our stay in the Adobe casita set within the high desert outside Santa Fe. We booked this property as we wanted to experience the natural beauty and style of New Mexico and this property did not disappoint! We loved watching the thunder storms roll across the mountains from the outside seating area to enjoying the magnificent sunsets before star gazing for the rest of the evening. The casita was charming with its coziness and the traditional decor that celebrates New Mexico with its furnishings and textiles, we loved it! Thank you Julie for being the perfect host and answering our questions quickly, loved the additional information about the local area and where to go off the beaten path, it made our trip! We will be back!!

Unique & Quiet House

Overall, this was a good place to stay for an extended weekend trip to the area for the Balloon Fiesta. No negatives to speak of... the only real drawback was that the road out there is incredibly rough. Nothing a standard vehicle can't handle, just be ready to be bounced around a bit. Positives were that it was incredibly quiet... we hardly saw another car and never heard another neighbor while we were there. The stars at night were amazing to see with no other lights around. Overall, we enjoyed our time there!

It was a pleasure hosting you, Brett. Sorry about the roads. Rough weather can temporarily mess up the roads to the house, but our neighborhood has a road fund so there is a neighbor who periodically grades and maintains the shared road. It should be better shortly.

No AC

I would not recommend this property in the summer. Temperatures inside reached 85 degrees. There is no air conditioning.

Hi Troy, Sorry it got so hot. We have plans to install a split unit now that the weather has gotten so unpredictable. But we do clearly state there's no AC.

Wonderful Scenery

The casita wasn’t ready for us until after6:00 pm, when checkin was at 3:00. So after 10 hours on the road, we drove to Madrid to shop and eat. We highly recommend The Holler restaurant there! Looks very casual, but the chef is amazing! We had dinner there 3/4 nights and were happy each meal! Stay away from Bear Creek Brewery! Bad attitudes and awful food! As to the casita, as another guest said, there is a lot of deferred maintenance that needs to be done, that the housekeeper isn’t capable of! Great view from master bedroom of the mountains and the hummingbirds! Definitely need high ground clearance on the dirt roads.

Thank you for your feedback. First, we agreed you would arrive at 5, and you arrived at 3. Second, we just fixed the window cranks that weren’t working, and put in new screen doors. My contractor had a long wait for the supplies.

Exactly what we were hoping for!!

We were extremely pleased when we approached the casita and saw how very private and beautiful the setting was. We were just as happy when we entered the casita as it was just what we were hoping for...quaint, comfortable, full of southwestern charm and extremely clean! Coming to New Mexico to get away from the Michigan winter weather, it was not real warm when we were there, but the sun was out 90% of the time so it felt much warmer and we were able to do a lot of hiking. The casita is not a long drive to downtown Santa Fe where we enjoyed browsing the seemingly unending art and craft shops. We also spent some time in the quaint little town of Madrid; be sure to visit Sugarman's, a unique chocolate shop featuring a variety of delicious and exotic chocolate concoctions. At the end of a long day hiking or shopping, we spent the evenings in front of the kiva fireplace reading and relaxing with a glass (or 2 ) of wine. What a perfect way to end the days! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a cozy, private, and conveniently located vacation spot. Wayne and Lenore

Great Place with Starry Nights

Our stay at the casita was nothing short of fantastic. If you cherish solitude and breathtaking night skies, this is the perfect retreat. The house is clean, inviting, and equipped with all the conveniences needed for a comfortable stay.On the way to Santa Fe's historic Old Town, we found plenty of gas stations and shopping options. The hosts offer excellent restaurant recommendations, or you can prepare your own meals and savor a peaceful outdoor dinner surrounded by natural beauty.The grill is a charming stone firepit with a grate on top. We bought some charcoal to cook our food, then spent the rest of the evening basking in the glow of the fire under the dazzling night sky. The hosts provide some of the best firewood we've ever used—and plenty of it!Love golf? We played rounds at Sandia and Paako Ridge—two incredible courses that, while not the closest, were absolutely worth the drive.If you find yourself stuck at the railroad tracks on the way to Old Town, don’t worry—it’s not a glitch! A train is genuinely on its way. It took about 20 minutes for it to arrive.After a full day of adventure, the casita offers the perfect sanctuary to unwind in peace and quiet.

Great place, needs some work

The location is amazing. Outstanding 360° views. House is great, but needs some work. Owners aren’t putting money back into property. First 5 days were great. But temps got above 82° and house heated up like an oven. Half the windows are broken and won’t open. Those that do open have holes in screens, missing screens, holes where handles should be. Only 1 door has a screen and it has huge hole in it. At night, the house cools off, but with all the holes, bugs got in- hundreds of bugs-attracted by the lights. I left 3 days early because of how hot house was. Great place for cooler weather, but not over 85°. Great kitchen, bathroom, den. Water pressure is great. Lady who is caretaker is great. One night storms washed out 2 roads to the house and she rescued us in her 4x4. Would definitely recommend house in cooler months, but not in summer months.

Thanks for your input. It’s more helpful to get this feedback during a guest’s stay when we’re able to address any issues that arise. We are in fact “putting money into the house” but as any home owner knows it’s a tough time to get workers or supplies when you need them. The windows are being fixed, and weather is beyond our control. High temperatures and heavy rains are hitting most of the US — Santa Fe is no exception. Our home is clearly marked as having no air conditioning.

Peaceful secluded getaway!

We really enjoyed our stay! This property is just as described in the owner's listing. It is remote, about 25 minutes from Santa Fe. But, the seclusion was just what we desired. We spent an entire day just wandering around the property and area. It was so relaxing. The fire pit outside was a wonderful amenity. While you must be smart and safe about outdoor burning, this was one of our favorite parts of the experience. The home was very clean. We are clean freaks and this home met every expectation we had. We were in the region for the Balloon Fiesta, in Albuquerque. This home was about 55 minutes from Balloon Fiesta Park. It was within 25 minutes of awesome shopping and dining in Santa Fe. We felt the location gave us the best of both worlds. Don't sell Santa Fe short. What a wonderful city! We did not have time to fully enjoy the downtown. We will be back to explore the Historic District further. The dining, in Santa Fe, wow! Just wow! Then, the Turquoise Trail. Highway 14. Drive it. Visit Madrid. Have a beer. Eat. Shop. It is all good. This home was really nice and we loved our stay. If you are considering a visit to the region, book this property now! (I would recommend a four wheel drive / truck / suv as the last mile or so of the drive to the house is dirt road and somewhat bumpy, but it is easy to travel.)

Peace on Earth

We spent five nights at this lovely lil house over the Christmas holiday. The property is vast the house was small and cozy, the perfect fit for us. Sunrises, sunsets, and stars galore. I would definitely come again.

Amazing place!

We absolutely loved the casita & the location! It was great both inside & outside. The sunsets, the sky, the stars, coyotes yipping & howling one night, proximity to Santa Fe, Madrid, Bandelier & many other things made the casita such a wonderful place to stay. I would definitely stay there again & highly recommend it if you like to be out where is quiet and very beautiful, Julie was very responsive to all communication too.

June Stay

We loved our stay at this casita. It was so peaceful and quiet. The air and the smell of pine so refreshing. The sunsets were stunning. Only 30 minutes from the Plaza in Santa Fe, it was like having 2 separate vacation experiences.
