If you want to experience the real Belize, this is your house! We landed in Belize City and drove three hours to the house. The trip was incredible, driving through the lush jungle, the small villages, etc... The road is in great shape and my party (4 women made up of myself and my three daughters) had no trouble finding and accessing the house. We loved it from the moment we reached the porch with it's hammocks and lounge chairs looking out onto the beach and water. Just so you know, this is a public beach, so don't be concerned if you see other people walking through the yard. The interior is as pictured. It suited our needs beautifully, even the futon in the front room which one of the girls used. The house was super clean, well-kept, beds were comfy, and the kitchen has everything you need.
The house is nestled in the village of Hopkins, and we loved the fact that while there were tourists, the village itself is free of tourist trappings. The people we met (and we met plenty) were all very kind and welcoming. Many had great stories of growing up in this little town. The restaurants (we walked to most of them) are soooo good! We favored Ella's Cool Spot. Incredible fresh fish and drinks that we could not get enough of! We went fishing twice while there, and after one excursion brought the fish to Ella's. They took great care of us and our catch; an amazing evening!
Let Mirko set up your tours. He is very accommodating and nice to work with. I'm glad I waited; his tours were better priced than booking from home. Also, we had each tour to ourselves. We went cave tubing and to the Blue Hole, and our guide had so much great information and stories. We also went fishing with Lincoln (thru Mirko). WOW!!! We, who don't fish, caught snapper, barracuda, lobster, and conch. We saw dolphins, sea turtles, swam along the reef, etc... We had so much fun and success, we went twice. Each time was such a wonderful adventure. You don't have to take guided tours either. There are plenty of national parks within driving distance with hikes, birds, and waterfalls.
We will be back, and we'll stay at Casita Del Mar. There is so much more to do. Stay in this wonderful home and immerse yourself in the adventure of the area.
