Dream castle

A stunningly beautiful house, even better than the photos suggest. We were a group of 16, 11 adults and 5 children, and had a fantastic week just hanging around by the pool, playing games and going out on day trips. We have stayed in several chateaux in the region and this is one of my absolute favourites. A few practical notes that might be helpful for future guests... Communication with the owner Mme Dupont was excellent. I was initially a bit daunted by the paperwork (there is a very detailed inventory!), but the owners are lovely and honest people, just trying to protect their beautiful home and furnishings from reckless guests. If your children are really chaotic, this might not be the house for you! The kitchen is pretty well equipped for a big group, but if you have a particular need for specialist gadgets, bring your own. A note for UK guests - local bakeries tend to close in August so you need to be prepared to drive to get stuff. I would recommend renting bedlinen etc direct from the host rather than through Vrbo, as it works out cheaper.

Castle with wonderful views and awesome history

I am a bit biased as this chateau was the home of one of my ancestors in the 16th century. I took my 85 year old father there with other members of our family for about a week. It was an excellent base for our side trips to Poitiers, Tours and La Rochelle. In several rooms, here are copies of a well researched book (in French) telling the amazing history of the chateau. Richard the Lionheart and his mother Eleanor of Acquitaine stayed here. It can be a bit cool inside during cold weather because of the 15 foot ceilings but the owner warned us by email and we were prepared. There is an excellent fireplace in the dining room and they supplied enough wood for us to have a roaring fire every night. It is the quietest place I have ever stayed. There is no noise except wind and the ravens who live in the donjon (old round tower). The owners do not live on site but communicated (in English) well by email before our visit to supply details. There are small charges to rent bed linens and towels which you reserve in advance (and pay for at the beginning of your stay) and you pay cash for the heating that you use at the end of the visit. Neither of these policies are unusual for rentals in France.

La vie de château

Hormis la cuisine laissée un peu en désordre par les visiteurs précédents, cafetière remplie (!), notre séjour fut très agréable dans une demeure et un environnement ayant beaucoup de cachet; quel plaisir de prendre son petit-déjeuner et ses repas face à un superbe donjon, un très beau châtelet et un joli parc. Nos enfants ont beaucoup apprécié cet environnement plein d'histoire et ont énormément apprécié la piscine, une piscine bien protégée pour les petits.Cela dit nous avons quand même franchi le pont-levis pour profiter des nombreuses attractions à proximité, vallée des singes, Futuroscope, Festival des jeux de Parthenay, Poitiers, Chauvigny.... En bref un très bon séjour apprécié de tous !

An amazing, relaxing time

We were a group of 16, four families + friends. This was our 4th stay at the chateau. It is an incredible place, so relaxing and calm with lots of activities nearby (we did kayaking + karting)

we keep coming back!

We are a large group of adults, teenagers and children, and we have now stayed in this place three times. We keep returning because the house has a lovely family atmosphere, and is great for relaxing. There is plenty to do without leaving the castle grounds, and plenty of space for everyone to enjoy some peace and quiet. There are nice walks nearby, and the area is interesting. Poitiers is great to visit, and of course, Futuroscope is worth the relatively short journey. The family are working hard to keep the facilities in a good condition, and to make improvements and extend the flexibility of the place.

Chateau medieval chaleureux et plein de charme. La vue sur la vallee est sublime et les couches de soleil a couper le souffle... nous etions en famille et avons pu pleinement profiter des nombreux equipements qu offre le domaine (trampoline, piscine, molki ... il y en avait pour tous les gouts!) Encore merci et bravo pour le formidable travail de restauration qu'effectue les proprietaires. – Petit +, le fond de cuisine on se sent comme chez soi ! :)

Amazing

We returned for a second time this year. The house is amazing and the pool is great. Being somewhere steeped in history is so special. We explored the area a lot. There are lots of activities nearby, like kayaking, parcours and futuroscope. You can get a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure! We all LOVE it - adults and kids!

Week-end insolite

Très bel endroit, très atypique avec beaucoup de charme. Le cadre est vraiment magnifique. Les lieux sont tres agréables pour un grand groupe avec beaucoup d'espace. En revanche il s'agit d'un château, donc n'oubliez pas vos laines, heureusement du bois est à disposition pour un bon feu de cheminée, mais les autres pièces restent fraîches.

Merveilleux séjour

Magnifique site et quelle histoire ! Le site et la demeure sont tout simplement merveilleux. Nous avons passé une semaine de réveillon à 18 (10 adultes et 8 enfants) dans un château qui n'a pas été si difficile à chauffer malgré le fait que nous n'ayons pu jouir du "petit salon" et de la "bibliothèque" car les cheminées sont condamnées (ce qui peut se comprendre en été...). Cependant, nous avons été ravis de notre séjour. Cette grande demeure est bien adaptée pour les tribus ou les enfants peuvent s'épanouir et s'amuser à loisir sans trop risquer de casser quelque chose. 2 points d'amélioration : une cuisine adaptée pour 10, pas pour 18 (four et plaques de cuisson "classiques" de cuisine intégré) en tout cas en hiver. Heureusement que le restaurant du lavoir dans le village faisait de la cuisine à emporter (à très bon rapport qualité/prix) et enfin une décoration et mobilier que l'on aurait souhaité plus chaleureux et adapté dans la salle à manger notamment qui, du moins en hiver, devient la salle de vie, car elle est la seule à avoir une cheminée qui fonctionne. En outre, l'accueil est parfait et disponible et la propriétaire très arrangeante. En conclusion, un très beau séjour, réussi, et un lieu que nous recommandons.

absolutely beautiful

My 3 sisters and I enjoyed a fantastic family holiday at the chateau - a wonderful opportunity to stay in an historic French home. The house and grounds were beautiful and well equipped, lots of games to play in the sunshine, lovely views - a really great experience. We would thoroughly recommend it.

An incredible place

The chateau is perfect for a large group of families with children. The house is filled with history. It feels like a privilege to stay but is somehow still very relaxed and informal. The grounds are huge and beautiful with stunning views over the valley. The pool is great too. We are returning next year.

Séjour très agréable

nous avons passé à Montreuil un superbe séjour avec 3 couples + nombreux enfants. Le site domine le village et offre de très beaux dégagements, les restes de l'époque médiévale sont magnifiques et bien mis en valeur. Prendre des repas dehors sous les arbres, au pied du donjon était un vrai plaisir. L'intérieur du château est très agréable à vivre, même en étant nombreux. les équipements sont globalement de bonne qualité et offrent un bon niveau de confort. bref un séjour à recommander et à refaire! Même si pour parfaire le séjour, la cour intérieure mériterait un peu plus d'entretien / jardinage, et certaines salles de bain pourraient être un peu mieux équipées.

A la hauteur de nos espérances

Superbe propriété pour passer des vacances en famille et en quasi autarcie. Le charme des vieilles pierres , le donjon , les remparts, l'espace incroyable dans le château et le jardin, la salle de jeux, le barbecue et la piscine dont nous avons profité au maximum grâce au beau temps. Nous nous sommes sentis comme chez nous.

Dans ce château et demeure de charme, il est heureux, aisé et agréable, de réunir une grande famille dans un site exceptionnel où chacun peut profiter des espaces intérieurs, salons et bibliothèque, se retrouver dans une immense et belle salle à manger pour partager des moments conviviaux et trouver autant de plaisir à parcourir la propriété et ses abords immédiats pour s'imprégner d'une parcelle d'histoire de France. C'était un bonheur en plein hiver, nul doute que ce doit être fabuleux à la belle saison. Un accueil parfait, chaleureux et confiant, des conseils autant que de besoin, complètent l'agrément de cette exceptionnelle offre de location.

Séjour exceptionnel

Nous louons tous les ans une grande propriété à la Toussaint pour toute notre tribu (entre 15 et 20), et je dois dire que ce château est exceptionnel pour tous les amoureux des vielles pierres ! Vous vivez une vie de châtelain unique dans un décor somptueux, avec un bon niveau de confort. Le château est une demeure familiale avec toute sa vie, sa bibliothèque remplie de livres et de BD, le parc est somptueux. Et les propriétaires sont accueillants et passionnés. Bref, une semaine magique !

Séjour charmant dans un lieu chargé d'Histoire

Très joli château à taille humaine où nous nous sommes tout de suite sentis bien. Les très sympathiques propriétaires ont tout fait pour nous rendre le séjour agréable, décorations de Noël, explications très claires, cuisine très bien équipée, literie très confortable, chauffage mis en route avant notre arrivée. Si vous aimez l'Histoire, les documents racontant celle du château vous combleront. Les activités ne manquent pas dans les environs.
