Great cabin, on a nice lake

The cabin was great and fully stocked with everything you could need. The view of the lake was fantastic and the host was very friendly and easy to reach in case of an emergency. I lived here for 7 weeks and found it suited my needs perfectly.

Black Lake Family Vacation

We were set up from the beginning and loved our stay. My family of 6 found it to work out, especially being able to bring our boat and dock it off. Would definitely stay there again. Thanks, Dittrichs'

Nice fishing cottage on one of the nicest lakes in Michigan

Week at fishing cottage on Black Lake. The dock was a bit sketchy , fire ring and lake frontage nice. If you're looking for a five star stay it's probably not for you. It was nice to come back to the Black Lake area!

Dirty Inside and Out

I think at one time this was a little gem but time has not been its friend. Musty, musty, musty smell the moment you walk in the door. We had all windows opened even during cold nights for fresh air. The entire outside of property immediately around the house was overgrown with weeds and trees. The siding probably hasn’t been hosed down or power washed in years. Full of dead bugs and spider webs new and old. Inside had extension cords running under carpets and exposed in the walkways. The main bathroom had a fly issue. I must have killed over 100 flys in that room during our stay. Half the windows do not lock. Screen door was duct taped where it was torn by the handle. Old vinyl tiles not sticking to the floor were duct taped down. Windows probably haven’t been washed in years inside nor out. Some really quaint and beautiful furniture and accessories. We had a mouse problem our very last night and listened to him chew away in the living room closet for at least 5 hours while we didn’t sleep. Available blankets needed washing as we found mouse turds amongst them and on shelves and various places. We probably should have called VRBO upon our arrival and requested another place but it had already been a long day and we were up there mainly for a place to sleep. We’ve stayed at other cabins/motels in the area for same relatively reasonable price and they were 10 times cleaner than this place. Again, it’s a shame, this was a little gem at one time and needs some TLC.

Not good

This is to advise that we have left the premises in Onaway, 3 days early. Most horrid 4 days I have ever spent in a rental property. Smelled like an old humid musty basement, windows nor screens have been cleaned since who knows when, not very clean. Also the other smell that we noticed now smells like a dead animal in the house. The neighbor did ask us if we had seen mice yet, also commented that they don’t have return renters!! Misrepresented many features such as it being 2 bedrooms; it is not, only 1 bedroom with a few “premium” futons in living area and on the porch. Did not have a row boat which is one of the reasons why I chose this property and only 1 kayak; but did have a huge canoe, which really isn’t good for fishing! Nowhere to put your groceries, cupboards are packed with owners property. Due to evidence of mice, had to put bread, buns, anything that would draw the mice, into the oven, toaster ovens and microwave. No closets but pegs on the wall in the bedroom to hang clothes. One dresser with 2 drawers empty for our use. I find it hard to believe that anyone from Vrbo has ever checked it out. Hard to believe you have this listed. Needless to say we would appreciate some return of the monies paid.

Very nice little lake house on Black Lake. Quiet and peaceful neighborhood, friendly neighbors. Ideal spot to watch great sunsets and enjoy the lake.

Beautiful location on lake shore

Tranquil lake shore location. Grassy, shady lawn for viewing activities and wildlife on the lake and for watching the spectacular sunsets. Plenty of folding lawn chairs/rockers. One bedroom with private 1/2 bath plus common areas (no privacy) with multiple fold out sofa beds and full bath. No WiFi. Well equipped kitchen.

Great location. Cabin was nice but needs updates. Boat hoist and dock were in very hazardous condition. Owner was very accessible. No internet.

Old and cluttered

An adventure to find, even with Mapquest. Interior could use a good clean out, closets and cupboards filled with way too much accumulated “stuff”. No A/C as listed. Grass not cut prior to or during stay. Would make an OK guy fish/ hunt camp. 1 bedroom, not 2 as listed. Needs a good maintainence overhaul.

Home away from home

My boyfriend, son, and I stayed here for a week and it was the getaway we were hoping for. Ken is very friendly, easy to communicate with, and made our first Homeaway experience a very positive experience. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. There are TONS of dishes, cookware, and utensils, as well as blankets and towels. There are games, VHS tapes, and a flat screen TV for rainy days or at night. The view from the cabin is beautiful and the firepit by the shore is perfect. We look forward to our next visit and many more to come! Thank you, Ken, for sharing your home and giving us the opportunity to make new memories.

Quaint Little House

This cabin on a lake was a wonderful home for my family and I to borrow for a week. After spending 23 hours in a car traveling from New Mexico, the quaint little house provided a much needed break. The four futons worked well for my three teenagers (including an extra long one for my 6'3" son) and myself, while the bedroom with a half bath offered privacy for a family friend we had staying with us. The kitchen was stocked with appliances, cutlery, and dishes and while we did bring our own bedding and towels the owner did have those available for use as well. The location couldn't be beat, and we spent many hours swimming off the dock and paddling around the shore in the canoe. On the rainy days/nights (and there were a quite a few) the huge collection of vhs tapes kept us entertained and gave us an excuse to rewatch the classics. Overall, I highly recommend this well kept and fun property for anyone wanting to stay in northern Michigan and I know we will be renting again if the opportunity arises.

Wonderful UpNorth Experience

If you enjoy a comfortable, clean fully equipped home on an exquisite lakefront location I recommend Sunset View. The owner has provided everything you need to enjoy the peace and tranquility of Black Lake. They even put their boat lift in the water ready to receive my boat. Black Lake is warm and clean Chairs for lakefront sunsets, firepit for S'mores, dogs, taters and corn, Weber gas grill and charcoal too. . At the end of a very private road so safe for children to run about. And if you need to run for an emergency pizza or supplies, the 211 is minutes away. Lots of farmstands and the WalMart is not so far. We WILL be back. Thanks Ken.

Our disappointment at Sunset View

If you are interested in coming in close contact with insects/bugs this is your place to be. I had to clean the bathroom from bugs before we could use it. I also had to remove the bugs next to the futon mattresses in the sitting area and the screened in porch (second bedroom)before we could add our sheets to the beds. I had to constantly clean up bugs through out the week. I advise you to not use the fan in the kitchen, the bugs went flying there too. I suggest you take a photo of every room in the house so that at the end of the week you can put everything back in it's place. I left the blankets out for the house cleaner to wash them after our use. Don't leave them out. $40 of our deposit was kept by the owner. You need to leave at 10 AM on the move out day. I suggest you bring your own towels. I washed the towels we used that morning and place them in the dryer. I did not have time to fold them and put them away. Yes, I guess I should of gotten up at 5 AM to get it all done in time. If you are a cook like me, this house does not have much counter space. Warning...don't move anything unless you put it back in the same way. I couldn't use the grill to make pancakes because of the cob webs on the base of the grill. There is one double bed in the bedroom that could sleep one adult. I, an adult, slept on the futon in the kitchen area. Futons are made for kids under 12 to sleep on. I could not get a good nights sleep, the board was in the middle of my back. There are two futons in the porch area. Only one of the futons could be open at a time. My daughter opened her futon. She didn't want to sleep with her brother, so her brother had to sleep on unopen futon. The stats for this house states that it sleeps 6. It might sleep 6, if they are all under 6 years old. The bedroom is a double bed, futon in kitchen area is for one person. The futon in the porch might sleep two persons if they like sleeping close to each other. Very uncomfortable. The one kid on an unopen futon. Warning, put garbage sticker on the can not the bags. If you use too many stickers, the owner will keep part of your deposit. If you want to enjoy T.V. or play movies at the house, make sure you get clear instructions. We had two teenagers and one professional engineer in our group and they could not figure it out. The house does have cute furnishings, a good washer/dryer and a canoe that we did enjoy. Suggest bring own kitchen utensils and towels. No beach area.

We enjoyed our stay at Black Lake. The owner was awesome in making sure the row boat would be there for my husband to use, which he did often. The cabin was well stocked. Town was close enough to run to if needed. Neighbors were really nice. We had plenty of room and having a bath and a 1/2 is just perfect. My only suggestion would be to bring a pair of water shoes, which I was able to purchase in town. The bottom of the lake is rocky and having the shoes help with walking out to deeper water. It was a very peaceful and relaxing vacation.

sleep like a baby

We had no sleepless nights. The cottage is tucked away in a wooded area with no highway or traffic noises. As hot as it was, the cottage was very comfortable with the windows open and the cool breeze coming off the lake. The only problem we had was, saying good bye. Ken the owner, was a very friendly person to do business with.

Sunset View Cabin

Despite the unseasonably hot weather, our stay was good. It could have been better if the washer hadn't quit on the third day and if the shower wouldn't fall off its holder hitting the bather. There was a vacumm available to keep the outside mess from accumulating too much inside. New updates in the kitchen and bathrooms are a bonus.

A surprise!

What a wonderful surprise!The cottage was so homey you could tell it was someone's personal summer cottage.The decorations were very nice "cottage and cabin" items that gave you a feeling that you were away from it all .Many things were updated and well cared for.Lovely sunsets and lots to do in the area!! Thanks for sharing your cottage with us.Would love to go again!!

Sunset View on Black Lake

A perfect vacation spot!!!!!!! We had so much fun and the location could not have been better!!!!!! The sunsets were amazing and so was the cabin/cottage!!!!! All five of us (adults) had more than enough room/space to be comfortable! We were close to everything we wanted to do (Cheboygan was 20 min or so away; the falls were 15-20 min away; Mackinaw City was close; etc...)! We all, absolutely, want to come back and have already started thinking about dates for next year. Ken was INCREDIBLY easy to deal with and helped to make out entire stay perfect! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoyable Family Vacation

This worked out great for our vacation. It was close enough to tourist places to visit along with much relaxation that was needed by all of us. We rented a motor from the marina on the lake for the boat that came with the cabin and the guys enjoyed fishing while my daughter and I enjoyed some shopping and beach fun. We liked the quiet end of the road we were on and the kids used the bikes a lot during our stay.
