Fontemaggio är en villa från 1600-talets stenhus eller "Casa Colonica" på en sluttning, omgiven av 2 tunnland mogna anlagda trädgårdar som smälter samman i solrosor, vinstockar, oliver, tallar och cypresser bortom. Det finns terrasser på alla sidor, alla med sitt eget matbord och hisnande vyer över ett landskap som verkar ha förändrats lite genom århundradena, inklusive en sjö och en renässansslott på en kulle. Huset är sympatiskt återställt och har en mängd terrakottagolv och kastanjbalkar. Den cirkulära poolen med en diameter på 30 fot, omgiven av doftande rosmarinhäckning och citronträd, drar nytta av solen hela dagen. Beläget bland mogna tallar, cypress och oliver, har den lugna utsikten över de toskanska och umbriska kullarna i fullständig avskildhet. Den medeltida byn på kullen Monterchi, som finns i "De vackraste byarna i Toscana", ligger i närheten. Du hittar Casa Fontemaggio ett lyckligt avkopplande hemifrån där du kan njuta av det italienska livets nöjen.


Trädgårdarna: trädgårdarna och marken är professionellt anlagda och innehåller plantering typiskt för Toscana. Träd inkluderar några mycket gamla tallar och mandlar, cypresser, oliver, akacior, ekar, fikon och citroner i terrakottakrukor. Det finns lådor, lavendel och rosmarinhäckar. 3 km bort ligger den lokala byn Monterchi, en liten triangel av medeltida perfektion, med dess spännande bågar och gränder, romerskt. A wonderful vacation

Ever since I saw the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun” it was my dream to travel to Italy and to stay in a house like the one in the movie. FonteMaggio was a dream come true! The house is beautiful and the pool is amazing. The kitchen is fully equipped and the views surrounding the house are beautiful. The host was very kind and provided us a welcoming basket with fruits and snacks.

Tucked Away in Tuscany

My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay at Fontemaggio near the Tuscany and Umbria border. The property is exactly as depicted in the photos - absolutely stunning - and our Host/Owner was exceptional. It’s a quiet location with views of castles, working farms and old ruins. Spectacular! Day trips to Siena, Florence, Arezzo among others were easily completed plus 2 local wine tastings. Just lovely!

Beautiful 17th century home in secluded area

Peaceful spot overlooking wonderful countryside including a castle. Tastefully furnished and loads of books. Very nice bedrooms and baths. All rooms had stunning views. The host was readily available when needed!

A classic Tuscan Villa

We had a lovely time with very pleasant weather. The villa is well appointed and comfortable. Sylvia was a discrete but very helpful host. The villa is very well sited for touring the Tuscany / Umbria borders The only negative were the mosquitoes that do come with the territory but (probably due to climate change) were particularly noticeable in the early evenings

A Lovely Week

Sylvia’s house is well described, in print and photos. It is old and well maintained. Art, travel, fiction and non, are in abundance. Rooms are pretty and nicely furnished. The swimming pool offered important relief from the unusual heat. It is surrounded by foliage. Area restaurants offered excellent food in attractive settings. The house owner, Sylvia, offered terrific hospitality.

Fantastic stay at this beautiful home

Amazing house, even more beautiful than the pictures on line suggest. Sylvia was friendly and her love for the house and its gardens is evident. The views from the main terrace are stunning, we sat there every evening reading and playing games. Follow the simple rules and the house is lovely and cool. Our children loved the pool, as did we! There are lots of fantastic restaurants clise by but im an avid cook so visiting the local grocery shops and cooking in the kitchen was heavenly to me. Cant recommend enough, tranquil, wonderfully equipped, we will be back!

Beautiful Tuscan villa

My wife and two adult children stayed at Fontemaggio for 10 glorious days mid September. Sylvia our host and the owner of the property was fantastic! She has done a wonderful job keeping the integrity of the villa, which is stunning! The exterior landscaping and pool are gorgeous as well. There are many things to do and small hilltop towns to visit within a short drive from the property. We really enjoyed being in the countryside and would highly recommend! Thanks again Sylvia for sharing your beautiful property.

Little paradise in Tuscany

Our family spent a splendid week in May at Sylvia´s gorgeous house tucked away on a beautiful and idyllic Tuscan hillside, overlooking a luscious valley with an old castle on the hilltop. The charming house is spacious, has 4 large, comfortable and beautifully decorated bedrooms, a welcoming living room with beautiful books on literature, art and film, a kitchen to die for, with all mod cons but still with a rustic feel. There are various terraces around the house, providing privacy if needed, and a nice pool. The surrounding area is beautiful and Monterchi is a perfect starting point for trips to Arezzo, Assisi and Siena. Or for walks and cycling trips in the area. Sylvia is a lovely lady, very helpful, welcoming and funny. So, a little bit of paradise on earth, the perfect spot for celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The only problem was: nobody wanted to go home!

Beautiful rustic gem

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our 10-day stay at Casa Fontemaggio. The house is charming, spacious and comfortable. The gardens and multiple outdoor eating areas are beautiful with amazing views. The pool is also lovely and is a great feature on hot days. The house is on a hillside surrounded by trees and is very private yet close to many towns that one can explore. The owner, Sylvia, welcomed us when we arrived and provided us with a very informative e-mailed guide of the surrounding area. Great experience!

Cornerstone of an amazing adventure!

Marvelous in every way! The accommodations were spacious and well appointed, the location perfect and the host helpful and quick to react to any needs. The views are breathtaking from the many sitting areas, nearby villages were so much fun to explore, ample opportunities to walk with little traffic. The host provides a guide a month before you come that was our bible. Her recommendations were spot on and super helpful. Although we made trips into Florence and vineyards over an hour away , we found the villages nearby to have also been highlights of the trip. We found restaurants and general food purchases to be very reasonable in cost and high in quality. Overall… a trip we will never forget and the location and accommodation were key to the experience!

Beautiful property

Gorgeous property the only negative was that there was no air conditioning in the bedrooms, the extremely hot summer made the rooms unbearably hot and sleep was very difficult in the top floor bedrooms my friends had to sleep in the basement which was the coolest bedroom. Fans were provided however it was still very hot.

Tuscan Idyll

The property is tucked away at the top of a steepish driveway which means it is very quiet and secluded. The property itself was very clean and well presented and had all the equipment needed for a great holiday. The building was typically higgledy piggledy given it’s age and that increased the appeal - we spent the week discovering nooks and crannies. There are a variety of outdoor spaces where you can choose to eat, depending on the weather and time of day. The host, Sylvia, was very welcoming and quick to deal with any minor issues that came up. She made herself available but was not intrusive at all. Sylvia was a font of local and regional knowledge and we tapped her up for ideas whilst we were there. Will definitely consider coming back

"beyond my wildest fantasies"

Fontemaggio was even more beautiful than both the description and photos and the surrounding countryside was spectacular . The villa offers a magical escape with miles of walks and views as well as being set in an area that is rich in history, art, fabulous food and wine. We were given a lovely welcome basket on arrival and never stopped feeling overwhelmed by the attention and care with which the villa had been designed and decorated both inside and in the surrounding gardens. The excursions and restaurants in the visitor's booklet were exceptional and we were grateful for and learned to depend on all the recommendations. Not only would I highly recommend a stay at Fontemaggio to everyone but I would happily return anytime. When I asked a travelling companion if she wanted to contibute to the description she said that "beyond my wildest dreams" pretty well sums it up.

Beautiful secluded period farmhouse surrounded by a wonderful garden with breathtaking views

We very much enjoyed our week's stay at Villa Fontemaggio. We were greeted on arrival by the extremely helpful owner Sylvia who gave us a comprehensive tour of both the villa and pretty garden with its circular pool. The property is clean and well maintained. We were left a delicious welcome pack containing all we needed the for following morning's breakfast and other treats. The bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and well appointed and the living in and out areas are spacious and equipped with a large amount of reading matter appertaining to the area. There are extensive walks, the pool is most refreshing and the garden a delight to sit in. Many pleasant restaurants and bars are to be found a 5 minute drive away in the ancient town of Monterchi, The area is steeped in history and there are many medieval towns within easy access including Assisi and Sienna. We are most grateful to Sylvia for helping to make our holiday so pleasurable.

THE PROPERTY WAS DIRTY AND UNSAFE, MANY OF THE MECHANICAL SYTEMS DID NOT WORK, INCLUDING THE OVEN AND SOME OF STOVE TOP, AFTER WE ARRIVED THE OWNER TRIED TO CHARGE ABOUT 80 EUROS A DAY TO HEAT THE PLACE AND THEN TRIED TO CHARGE US EXTRA ELECTRICITY FOR ROOM HEATERS WE PURCHASED AND LEFT, WE HAD TO SPEND SEVERAL HUNDRED OF EUROS TO BUY ITEMS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE PROPERTY. IT DID NOT EVEN HAVE A PROPER COFFEE MAKER.

Unique Villa

We had a great time even though the weather wasn’t the best. Sylvia was very helpful, we appreciated the welcome basket and fresh flowers and her recommendations. The kitchen could use some new knives. But overall a very unique home with a lot of character. Just an FYI. If you plan on wine tasting it is by appointment only and not always available. Another FYI was that if it is cold you will have to pay extra to turn the heater on, which is covered in the contract. It cost approximately 65 euro for the five days to run the heat for a few hours each of the five nights.

Beautiful property

We (2 couples) enjoyed our time in the villa. The area is quiet and peaceful. The layout of the house provided us with privacy and solitude when needed and space to gather together as well. The outside areas are particularly dreamy with views and and attractive trees/flowers all around. Sylvia is very responsive and helpful host giving us lots of advice and suggestions. The walks from the property are really nice with views in all directions. The weather was not ideal while we were there so we didn’t spend as much time dining outdoors as we would have liked. If you come outside the summer I suggest slippers or extra socks. I was very glad I brought mine! We also really enjoyed the dinner arranged with the chef and Cinzia the housekeeper. It was very special and we all had a great time. The entire area is beautiful with a million things to see. I’d love to go back!

We were 8 People looking very much forward to our stay, in Fontemaggio, All the pictures from the house, and surroundings, looked so nice. But seeing it in real, blow us away... The house, and the garden area, is so unbelievable charming, and so tastefully furnished.... It has to be seen in real... We week we spend in Fontemaggio, Will always be in our memories... We went to Florence by train from Arezzo. Siena, the old town of Arezzo, and a wine yard, close to Arezzo, called San Fabian... Very Nice wine. Montechi, Anghiari, Citta di Castello, Sansepolcro, is All small, but very cozy towns. There is a Nice view from Anghiari. One night, we had cynsia, and her freind, cooking for us... It was such a great evening, and the food, was very good. The last night, we went to a local bar, in Lippiano, and had their famous sandwich... We had a Nice evening there... All in All... Fontemaggio is a 5 star place... And Sylvia was the best host we could get... Christine and family

Wonderful experience

Sylvia and Bepo, we cannot thank you enough for sharing your beautiful villa, property and hospitality with our entire family. If my wife had not found your place I most likely would have never visited this corner of Italy. The small towns which surrounded us, Monterchi, and Citerna for instance were so quaint and welcoming, and the people that we met on our travels, as well as, thru your introductions made for a memorable and unforgettable experience. We also managed great day trips from the villa to different vineyards, and historical towns and other sites. The villa itself, with its breathtaking vistas and wonderful landscaping is just beautiful, and considering the history that the building has seen just boggles the mind. Everything worked well, and we did not feel as though we were wanting for anything except some more time there, and possibly to take Bepo home with us. Obviously for me to have my entire family together would make any trip special, but staying at your beautiful villa with you and Bepo only a phone call away made the trip much more memorable. We certainly hope to be back in the future, and look forward to spending more time with you again. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for a trip that will provide memories for a lifetime. Fontemaggio is a beautiful property. It is situated on a picturesque hillside near the incredibly charming hill town of Monterchi, right on the border of Tuscany and Umbria. The house is well-equipped and peaceful with stunning views and abundant gardens. The only thing which prevents me from giving this property an excellent rating is the thought that the property is in need of some maintenance/updating. Upon arrival we discovered a noticeable ant problem in the kitchen and while country living can be "buggy," this was something I would attribute more to maintenance and housekeeping. The kitchen could do with an update and a good washing down, particularly the cooking stove, and perhaps the addition of a microwave. The iron was cracked and broken, preventing the use of water for steam ironing. And the bicycles mentioned in the advert were not readily on hand. Overall, the house inside would definitely be served by a fresh coat of paint. The owners reside elsewhere so perhaps are unaware of these small issues. This property is a gem that with some attention would be simply perfect and would better merit the rental cost required.

Magnificent home and location

We are incredibly grateful to Sylvia and her sweet pup Beppo for hosting us at Casa Fontemaggio for a week. What a marvellous home full of history with all the modern conveniences a family needs built in. Our family (2 adults, 3 boys aged 8-12) enjoyed every aspect of this home, from the comfortable and clean living spaces, the well appointed kitchen, the fireplace, the warm and cozy beds, the many outdoor spots to eat or read, and even the pool despite the cooler weather. The views in every direction were spectacular (the photos are wonderful but cannot do the live views justice) and the gardens were colourful and fragrant. We also found it easy to explore the area, with sights and activities to be found in every direction (and Sylvia providing a helpful binder and lots of guidebooks to help). We drove to Arezzo and caught a train to Florence, a perfect day trip. We walked into Lippiani from the house and enjoyed meals in every village close by. The ancient town of Anghiari is not to be missed. Our boys found the local soccer (football!) pitch in Lippiani and even connected with some local kids for a game. It was also easy to wile away a day at the house itself, reading, heading out for walks in search of lizards and poppies, lounging by the pool or just sitting and taking in the views. I cannot say enough about this home. I slept like I haven’t in years - thanks to the quiet, the fresh air, the birds. Everything. What a special place. We hope to return soon!

Seeing is believing - the perfect dolce vita!

Having rented holiday properties in Italy for 15 years, I have to say that this is the best villa we have stayed in. Our expectations were high and the reality more than exceeded them.We were welcomed by Sylvia to an immaculately clean and beautifully presented property. The house has been sensitively and tastefully restored with a blend of historic features and modern facilities, including 3 beautiful spacious master bedrooms and stunning travertine bathrooms.The kitchen is well laid out, with marble worktops, and quality equipment.The gardens and pool are paradise. It was heavenly to swim surrounded by rosemary hedging and scented jasmine. There are several beautiful terraces with tables and chairs. The main terrace has a breathtaking panoramic view to Lippiano Castle and the hills beyond. We loved evening aperitivi on the lounge seating taking in the stunning views. Picking fresh lemons for G&Ts was a first!The wildlife is amazing.We heard nightingales and saw hare and deer. The property, although on its own track and surrounded by landscape, is only a few minutes by car from the village.There are lots of local gems to discover and it was easy to take the train to Florence for the day. Sylvia provides a fantastic guide with recommendations of where to visit and everything we tried was worthwhile.I cannot recommend this property more highly. My only regret is that we did not stay longer. We look forward to returning next year. Thank you Sylvia and thank you Fontemaggio.
