Thomas Wallace House i Petersburg är ett av landets mest historiskt betydelsefulla hem. Den 3 april träffade president Lincoln här med General Grant för sista gången. Petersburg hade just fallit och de väntade på nyheter om överlämnandet av Richmond, medan de diskuterade framtida planer för ett återförenat Amerika. Medan Thomas Wallace hade varit en allierad av president Lincolns i kongressen, var hans fru kusin till konfedererade generallöjtnant Abrose Powell Hill som hade dödats i strid dagen innan. Familjen välkomnade av sorg, men välkomnade president Lincoln och tillhandahöll sittplatser för honom och General Grant nära ytterdörren, där de konfererade i timmar innan den ultimata överlämnandet av Richmond. Det är här freden började!

Bortsett från Wyatt House hade alla hem på västsidan av den en gång livliga historiska Market Street rivits förutom Wallace House. Byggt 1855, är den varaktiga storheten på en gång imponerande, inbjudande och varm. Listas som ett "National Registry of Historic Places in America". Det 12-fots välvda taket och fönstren i hemmet ger en öppen rymlighet och ljushet i hela. Rummen är också tydligt från en annan era, men sängarna och bostäderna är nya, moderna och bekväma.

Wallace House ligger några minuter från "Old Towne" Petersburg, där butiksaffärer och restauranger är rikliga och mångsidiga.

Living in History

This remarkable house gives you a feeling of its history as soon as you walk through the door. It's decoration covers many of the ages of the house from its inception in 1855 through to the early 1900s. Despite the feeling of history all around you, the Thomas Wallace House is a comfortable place to stay. We highly recommend it to all.

Unique Chance

This property is historic-President Lincoln met with General Grant to discuss the end of the Civil War on the same front porch you will sip your coffee on in the morning. This is so unique. The house in being renovated but it is SPOTLESS and the beds have pure cotton linens and very comfortable beds. It is so amazing to feel the worn-smooth wooden floors beneath your feet. It is a huge house-it can fit a bunch of history buffs comfortably. One day this neighborhood, this city will be gentrified but that seems to be just beginning now. If you know where you are going you know what you are getting. This was a lovely stay and the host is very responsive and informative.

Not a Comfortable Stay

The house description does say it is still being rehabbed. However, there is much undone, such as: bathrooms with no heat source, random frayed towels some of which are stained, bedrooms that have lamps on the floor but not by the bed, locks on doors that are not secure, broken outdoor lighting, multiple entrances to the house, some of which were unlocked all night and unknown to us until the next day, nails protruding from walls, such as in the downstairs bathroom, a stove with knobs that have the directions worn off and misshapen burners, resulting in a stove that is unsafe to use, a lovely and historic front porch that has not been recently cleaned with dirty furniture and dirty ashtray, a back entrance from the parking area that is covered in debris making walking to the house unsafe, to name someone of the issues we encountered on our overnight stay. There is also a broken record player, one tv in a room with only random chairs (while there were comfortable armchairs in the hall?), one plastic ice cube tray, 5 delicate small crystal glasses but nothing from which to drink water, multiple closets that you cannot use because they are filled with debris, fireplaces stuffed with rags, etc, etc. The entire experience was unsafe, stressful and frankly depressing. It is very sad. It seems the house suffers from no one on site to properly prepare it for its guests. Wish we knew before we booked!

Amazing

Everything about this property was great! My father is a huge history lover and he was so tickled at the historical significance of the property. We had ample space as a family to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and of course Thanksgiving Football using the TV (which was a nice added amenity). The property manager was very responsive to any inquiries/requests we had which definitely helped ease the stress of making sure our holiday meal was great!

Historic Home

This grand old home is in the process of being renovated . Lovely bathrooms . Old house charm. Don’t expect perfection as it is being renovated ( as stated) while still being available as a VRBO. Just soak in its grandeur, peace , and architecture.

The owners love this property and have both lived and married in it, hosting almost 100 guests from throughout the world for the reception. We had to leave the area for employment and return with our children to stay at the Thomas Wallace House regularly.

As of May 3, 2021, this home has been redesigned by a world class designer, and is gorgeous. Few people will ever experience a night in a mansion of this caliber, much less one of such historical importance. It's far more than a brand name hotel, and the new prices going into effect on or before 2023 will reflect that. This is the ideal time to experience this magnificent property.
