I mars 2002 blev Stirling Skottlands sjätte stad för att fira drottningens gyllene jubileum. Staden står i en strategiskt viktig position, vid den lägsta antika korsningsplatsen för floden Forth. Det finns bevis på en fästning i Stirling så långt tillbaka som i förhistorisk tid som bevakar passagen mellan låglandet och höglandet. Den som kontrollerade fästningen kontrollerade effektivt Skottland.

På grund av detta har mycket av Skottlands historia spelats ut i eller runt Stirling. Under 1200- och 1300-talet bröts kontrollen från engelsmännen och förlorades sedan: innan han återfanns efter slaget vid Bannockburn 1314. Det var på Stirling Castle, mellan 1400- och 1600-talet, som Stuartsen valde att göra sitt hem och det var där Mary Queen of Scots krönades 1543. På 1700-talet blev Stirling ännu en gång strategiskt viktig under Jacobite-upproren. Se vår historiska tidslinje.

Idag dominerar Stirling Castle stadens horisont och är en imponerande plats att besöka. Den sitter på en stor klumpa med Stirling som ligger nedanför. Utsikten från slottets plan är utmärkta, framför allt av Wallace-monumentet och av den klumpiga konturen av Dumyat och Ochils bortom. I den gamla staden finns Church of the Holy Rude och Old Town Jail. Båda välkomnar besökare. Också av intresse är Argylls logi, delvis från början av 1500-talet, men nu återställt till sin 17th Century prakt, när det var ett imponerande hus. Strax över floden Forth från Stirling finns resterna av Cambuskenneth Abbey.

Very welcoming, and an ideal location

A very welcoming downstairs apartment with a lovely garden, near the centre of Stirling and ideal for visits to the Castle and to the surrounding area. Easy walk to the station, to go to Edinburgh.

Very nice place

I recommend staying at Bob's place. Stirling is a pretty city and next to other places by railway. Bob's very friendly and helpful and his home has got all you need.

Great location

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the property. Great location close to all attractions and free parking on the drive. Host lives in the main house attached and is easy to reach if any issues arise. Beautiful garden which our daughter immensely enjoyed specially the friendly cats and dog.

Great stay in Stirling.

Bob is a great host and has a lovely comfortable property. Lovely little patio in his beautiful garden. 3 sweet cats that stay outdoors, a lovely dog that stays with Bob but will say hello if you want it to. Close to the Smith Art Gallery, Stirling Castle, shops and restaurants. We would love to stay here again if we are ever back in Stiling.

Scottish getaway

Quirky layout. Nice position to get into town. Great to have off road parking. Limited cooking facilities, but worked fine for our 3 day break. Nice sitting out area.

My sister and I had a wonderful time in Stirling and the location of this flat was perfect! The apartment is absolutely adorable and met all our needs. And again, the location can not be beat! It as just perfect to come back from our long days of exploring to this cozy spot!

Back home for a visit

Liked that we could walk around Stirling without needing our car, and ease of access to motorway when we were travelling out of town. Nice natural light and big bathroom. Liked lots of storage and heated blanket on the bed. Received helpful tips on sights and places to eat from our host.

Great location for exploring the area

Bob's place is situated on the outskirts of Stirling, so that you can reach both the citycenter and the highway easily. The apartment is very cosy and well equipped with a high standard. It is also quiet in the night. Bob is a friendly host with lots of useful informations. The kitchen was lovingly equipped with everything we needed for a breakfast the next day and even more. Very nice place, highly recommended.

Welcome home to Stirling!

Wonderful property and host! We were welcomed by Bob as if we had known him for years! The property was beautiful and very cozy. We wanted to end our trip to UK by relaxing and unwinding before heading back to the states. This property exceeded our expectations! The yard was spacious and full of beautiful flowers! Bedroom, bath, kitchen and living area were perfect! Thanks Bob for everything!

Perfect location in Stirling

This must be one of the prime spots to stay in Stirling, next to the Kings Park and Stirling Castle; 10 minute walk into town and to the train station. In a quiet but very central location. Fantastic to have off road parking available. I left my car most days and used the train to get around. Very comfortable annex, has everything you could need, including a fantastic, huge tv in the sitting area. Cosy and welcoming. Bob is a fantastic host. Highly recommend this place.

Great Apartment

The apartment was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. It was charming and the back garden was lovely (even if the rain prevented us from sitting outside) The location was ideal for us. It was a short walk to downtown and attractions, the train station, and it was right next to Kings Park. The neighborhood was amazing and with the park and golf course nearby it made for very nice walks. Our host Bob was always available with stories and advice and he went “the extra mile” to make sure our stay was as fun and enjoyable as possible. I would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Stirling area!

Great Place to Stay

Small but perfectly formed (as they say). Totally spotless + lovely and warm (even though minus degree temperatures outside). Very homely and didn't feel like a short stay rented property. Everything you wanted was there to hand. Also, gorgeous garden as outlook from living room patio doors. PM/Landlord (Bob) was lovely too and couldn't do enough for us if we asked but, at the same time, left you to it and wasn't intrusive in any way. Would definitely look to stay here again on next visit to Stirling. Loved it and ....... missing it already.

Lovely stay

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Stirling stay. The location was perfect to see the city on foot and get to the train station easily for day trips. Food shops nearby and despite being close to the city centre, the street itself was very quiet. Bob was a great host who greeted us upon arrival and kept us entertained and informed with stories and local tips. The shower was nice and hot, the kitchen more than adequate for our needs and the living space in the sun room was lovely after a long day of exploring. Highly recommend this place to anyone. If we’re ever back to Scotland, we would happily stay here again. Thanks, Bob.

Honeymooners' Delight!

My husband and I came to Scotland to honeymoon back in September, and absolutely loved our stay here! Bob was extremely accommodating, especially since our flight arrived late at night. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a laugh from Bob and a bottle of champagne (completely unexpected, yet much appreciated). The bungalow was just perfect for my husband and I. Having our own kitchen and parking spot were a huge plus to our week long stay in Scotland. The location was perfect - walking distance to Stirling town center, a short train ride to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and walking distance to Stirling Castle. Bob kept in touch with us, giving us great advice on places to eat and sights to see, including the Allen Water Cafe where we had the BEST fish n' chips ever (highly recommend it). He told us where to go to see some amazing views on the Highlands and Glen Coe which was stunningly beautiful. The bungalow was cozy, very clean, and had everything we could possibly need for a wonderful stay, rain or shine. We would highly recommend staying here, as we will again someday.

My stay at this Stirling property was outstanding. It provided everything I needed to live comfortably for the two weeks. The property is very stylish and located within walking distance from the center of town and many attractions such as Stirling Castle and the Smith Museum. It is very quiet, and the garden view and patio are wonderful. The owner is extremely kind and ensures that you have a wonderful stay! Highly recommended.

Excellent home, location and host

I can't say enough positive things about my stay at Bob's rental, and I wholeheartedly agree with the other reviews included here. It's even more beautiful than it looks in the photos, it's in a great location that's a short walking distance from the downtown area and Stirling castle, it's in a nice and quiet neighborhood, and it has all of the amenities you need. Bob is an amazing host who is very generous and kind, responds promptly and is a great conversationalist. This was by far one of the best vacation rentals I have experienced, and I hope to rent from Bob again when I plan on returning to Stirling next year. I highly recommend this rental.
