The neighborhood in which the apartment is located is totally walkable. The beach elevator is two or three blocks from the apartment. I went to the beach almost every day--there are steps up and down a few blocks away, but obviously, it's easier to use the elevator when it is available. There were several full service grocery stores within a few blocks, plus smaller local stores, including butchers, bakeries, and a wide array of restaurants and cafes, in addition to a large outdoor market selling everything from clothing to housewares to fresh produce called a shuk. There was a bus station within walking distance, in addition to a mall, also within walking distance, and a train station a little over a mile away, accessible by bus if you don't want to walk. Netanya is centrally located in Israel, and one can travel from one end of the country to the other with ease. I loved the public transportation in Israel--it is very inexpensive, runs frequently and the busses and trains are clean and well-maintained.The only caveat I would give someone not acquainted with Israel is to be sure to be mindful that the Jewish Sabbath begins at sunset Friday evening, and many things shut down or are not available up to a couple hours before sunset, especially the grocery stores and the busses and trains. So if you are planning on traveling by public transportation on Fridays, be sure to do your travelling earlier rather than later in the day.
