Comfortable 2 room apartment in central Skrunda
Recently renovated (2018) two room apartment with extra comfortable kingsize bed with delux mattresses, a pull-out couch that will accommodate two more adults or children, fully equipped kitchen, shower with automatic thermostat for easy water temperature regulation and other facilities that you might need for a comfortable stay. In the kitchen you will find electric owen and stove, microwawe owen, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, cookware and dishes.
Also a washing machine with drying function is at your disposal.
The apartment is situated in privately owned 4 apartment house, in Skrunda centrum. The house is surrounded by a garden on one side, and on the other side you will find Ventas Street that is the central street passing through Skrunda. In the garden you will find apple trees, plums, lilac and jasmine trees, and almost 100 years old sheds that give the house its rustic charm and genuine rural feeling. We also offer sauna with hot SPA tube in the garden, picquenicque are with grill. (SPA tube and sauna must be booked in advance and we will charge a small fee).
Your stay will be far from the usual insipid tourist traps, and you will be able to experience the real small-town life.
The house is situated near beautiful river Venta. It will take you just a 3 minutes walk to reach the riverbank of Venta. We recommend a summer morning or evening walk or bike ride along the riverbanks of Venta! The house is situated in the middle of central Skrunda, yet it is so close to the countryside, that you will get the best of the two worlds. Skrunda is a small town, perfectly situated in the middle of the Courland if you wish to explore the region. It takes just 45 minutes by car to reach Liepaja and Baltic Sea with its magnificent sandy beaches. If you want to explore the ancient town Kuldiga, it is just a short drive away. Just across the streat, a short distance from the apartment, you can enjoy the luxury 4 star restaurant meal at Skrunda Manor. If you want to âdo as Romans doâ, visit the local cafĂ©-restaurant Jumis, also just across the street, some 300 m from the house. Jumis is definitely the most budget friendly restaurant in the region. Local food-stores are also just around the corner.
We offer rent of bicycles and rubber boats for trips along river Venta.
The house has a very interesting history and the apartment you are about to rent is our way of generating income to preserve the house for the next generations. The house was built 1933 by current owners great grandmother Lize and her husband Janis. Lize and Janis worked hard to save the money and build this house that was meant to be their source of income when they get old, as they planned to rent out a part of the house. After the II World War it was confiscated by the Sovjets. Janis and Lize never got to live in the house that they had built. The house was returned Lizes daughter, current owners grandmother Elvira, only 1994 after the fall of Sovjet Union, long after Lize and Janis had passed away. Elvira lived not far from her childhood town Skrunda until 98 years of age and was happy to see the house finally getting renovated. I hope you will enjoy staying at Elviraâs long lost and regained house and we want to thank you for booking this apartment and helping us preserve this house for our three children and future grandchildren.

The profile picture is of a 5th generation house owner. We are a family with three children all of whom have helped in renovating this house that we received as a gift from our grandma and great grandma Elvira. Even though we are living in Sweden, we often visit Latvia to reconnect with our Latvian roots and to renovate end preserve the property.
We are very grateful to our grandmother (and great grandmother) Elvira who entrusted us with this house and we really want to make her proud if she can see us from above the clouds. Elvira always taught us that hard work and honesty are two things that define a person. She lost her father when she was 3 years old and was sent to live with her grandma since her mother could not alone take care of the three small children. At just five years old Elvira was already working - standing on the banks of Venta river and keeping an eye on grazing cows. One of her most beautiful and maudlin stories was about the time when she as a young girl found a dime on the road to Skrunda. The money was enough to buy her a hat that she had been wanting for years but could not afford. She was overjoyed and proud to finally wear a hat just like other young girls did at that time.

Vad som gör detta boende unikt
Skrunda is often mentioned for its secret ghost-town âSkrunda-1â â the Soviet Unionâs secret military town that was located some 5 km outside Skrunda town. The Soviet Union, during the time of Cold War, created more than 40 closed secret towns that provided the technical foundation for the Soviet military. In 1964, a radio station in the area of Skrunda-1 was built to fulfil the Soviet Army needs of a major radar station âDneprâ. Radars of Dnepr Radio Station could observe objects at a distance of 6000 km and at height of 3000 km and was searching the skies of the whole Western Europe and more. Because of the secret military town, foreigners were forbidden to travel in the region during the Soviet era and Skrunda was off limits for anybody who could be suspected for spying or having connections with western governments.
As soon as Latvia recovered its` independent in 1991, Soviet military bases one by one were closed and Russian troops expelled out of the territory of Latvian Republic. Skrunda-1 was abandoned and became ghost-town. Recently it was acquired by Latvian Military Forces for training purposes.
An epic superhero battle from the movie Justice League was filmed in Skrunda-1. The Hollywood production team chose the city for its unique setting of block apartments and a tower for a scene during a fierce battle.
