En semi-fristående ladugårdsomvandling på ett lantligt läge mellan Keswick och Penrith med imponerande utsikt över Blencathra.


Blencathra är en smakfullt ombyggd ladugård av klass II som ligger på Blakebeck Farm bara två mil från den orörda Lakelandsbyen Mungrisdale. Ladan har en upp och ner layout med en stor öppen planlösning på första våningen. Härlig utsikt över de lokala fj��llarna och Blencathra omger ladugården och ägarens får och lamm betar på ängarna runt stugorna. Lokala promenader från tröskeln är rikligt. Cyklister kommer att njuta av de lugna landsvägarna och golfare hittar Keswick golfbana en och en halv mil bort. Den populära livliga marknadsstaden Keswick med ett överflöd av intressanta butiker, matställen och ett bra fritidscenter ligger sju och en halv mil bort. Sträck benen längs kanten av Derwentwater eller genom Borrowdale Valley och plocka upp Keswick Launch för att kryssa tillbaka igen. Mot söder ligger Ullswater och Thirlmere en kort bilresa bort och båda erbjuder spektakulär natur, utmanande promenader och rikliga aktiviteter. Butik, pub och restaurang 3 mil.

A joy to visit

Cottage had all we needed and more - cosy and comfortable. Views from the windows were all you could hope for. Welcome was extraordinary - homemade jam and scones and fresh flowers from the garden in a vase. Alpacas and chickens provided endless entertainment.

This was a return visit to Blakebeck, having stayed previously in The Garth. As with that cottage, Blencathra is well-equipped, comfortable, warm and clean. Views from the windows are beautiful especially given the 'upside down' layout, which works really well. The games room is a bonus but the main attraction for our children is the animals, particularly the donkeys! There are lovely countryside walks direct from the door. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming and the location is perfect for easy access to attractions and the motorway. I am sure we will be returning to Blencathra in the future! We had a wonderful time here.

We had a wonderful time here. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The cottage is so well equipped! We couldn’t have thought of anything else it needed. It was amazing to have the animals on site, especially to entertain a toddler. The views are beautiful and walks from the door. Lots to do within a 25 min drive. We had a great week at Blencathra cottage! The location was lovely, and our 2 year old loved meeting the alpacas, donkeys and sheep. There is so much to do in the area with a toddler, and the cottage is ideally placed, only 15min drive from Keswick. The cottage itself is very comfortable, toddler friendly and has everything you need for the week. The owners are lovely and friendly, and happy to help. Really would recommend! Excellent holiday cottage which was so comfortable and clean. It was like being at home. One of the best holiday cottages we've ever stayed in. The owners were exemplary in their attention to detail and were very ready to offer advice and assistance where necessary. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Lovely home made scones on arrival with home made jam which you could also buy more of as well as marmalade and honey. Great place to stay, would happily go back. Location is brilliant, 15 mins into Keswick, 20/25 mins from Ambleside. As a photographer I was 15 mins from Derwent water, 15 mins from Ullswater, 15 mins from Thrilwater etc.. Couldn’t have been better. Cottage was really cosy, really nice decor showing the old building while still being modern. It has everything you need for self-catering, all you need to bring is food. Towels, hairdryer, dishwasher (plus tablets) salt, pepper, every cooking tool needed, bin bags and loads more. Judith and Mike were great hosts, they will go out of their way to help you, all you need to do is ask. They did with me in order to get some red squirrel photos. (you will see red squirrels while here) Very dog friendly, they have a new wood which is fenced in to take the dog out to the toilet, this saves the back gardens from getting messy and is encouraged to use. The garden is lovely but you do have to go outside the front door to get to it. Games room is great, ping pong, pool/snooker and fussball. Even provide board games, cards etc… You can also walk around the farm to see the animals, you will meet the 3 dogs pretty quickly as they roam around, the donkeys will come and say hi and love an eye rub. Tips: Wifi is good enough to stream from Netflix, so bring a laptop/phone cable to hook into the tv (hdmi). Bring a torch for those late night dog toilet trips as it’s very dark outside. Nice cottage in a fantastic location in the lake district located between the supermarkets of Penrith and the lovely cafes and restaurants in the quaint town of Keswick. Only 10 mins from the motorway junction but the property feels very isolated (a good thing). The lakes of Ullswater and Derwent water are 15 mins drive and offer fantastic walks in the mountains. The cottage itself is well stocked and clean. The living area is upstairs and the bedrooms/bathroom downstairs. With a small private garden with fabulous views too. The cottage has a lot of character with wooden beams and part exposed brickwork. Some of the furniture and the bathroom are a little dated but not a major issue. Nice powerful shower. The kitchen is new, well equipped and crockery very clean. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Home made jam and scones on arrival. Very dog friendly with a medium sized bed, towels and bowls supplied. Plus a dedicated dog woodland for them to run around. It's small but still a great feature. The Mill Inn (Murgrisdale) is worth a visit, but you may need to ring ahead to book a table during the summer - we arrived at 6.30pm and got the last table for that mid-week evening. Games room is a bonus - particularly if it is wet. Easy to find, and park. Pubs within walking distance (assuming you like a long walk!), but shops are further afield.
