Lovely Home

A well presented home. Very clean with a welcoming array of local produce provided . Well equipped . Everything we needed and complimentary logs for our first fire. WiFi good. I could not fault the home itself .

Lovely cottage in lovely location

The Smithy is well equipped and in a lovely location to explore the area. Nearby Ford and Etal were a delight. The information folders at the property were particularly good. The layout of the property was ideal for us, especially as it had a ground floor bedroom with en suite bathroom.

Luckily we took our own as the corner shop was also shut so we wouldn’t have been able to buy any there. Otherwise the place was spotless and every need was met. We all thought the cottage very warm and cosy, bedrooms were furnished very well , bathrooms were roomy with plenty of hot water at all times. The equipment and kitchen crockery etc were all very nice. If we had to find a fault it would be the bedside lights, with dark shades it wasn't possible to read with them. Because there were a few faults with equipment and it was difficult to get someone on the phone, could I suggest that you leave a simple form on the kitchen table and ask people to fill it in with a cross or tick against all appliances as they leave, at least the cleaning lady could then pass it on. We really enjoyed our break here but were disappointed that there was no welcome pack and no basic essentials such as salt and pepper. Whilst understanding that Covid secure guidelines have altered many things, there is not consistency among holiday cottage owners. A friend of mine also booked a holiday in another area of England and arrived to a wonderful welcome pack, cushions on the sofas, games and books. There were none of these things at our cottage. I fail to see the logic in taking away cushions but then leaving the cushioned upholstery on sofas and arm chairs. Great venue and decent value for money.

Great venue and decent value for money. Clean ( a few cobwebs in difficult to reach places ). Nice local shop and pub (which does food and breakfast) but miles away from a larger store. Due to the nature of the main open plan living/kitchen room size, it took ages to get warm. Logs supplied only lasted the best part of 1 night. UNderfloor eating never got that warm at all. It would work out expensive to keep the fire going most evenings. Saying all the above, this is a venue I would strongly recommend and wish to book again.

We enjoyed our stay at this cottage, despite the rain! The quality of the fixtures and fittings is high although, as some of the other reviews have indicated, there are elements which would benefit from some attention. In particular the en-suite in the main bedroom - the shower needs a deep clean and the paint is flaking off part of the ceiling and one of the spotlights is loose. The Welcome Pack was good and always gets the holiday off to a good start, albeit we could not get ours until the Sunday as the local shop was closed (but a note put through our door to explain why, which was fine). We would not visit again but only because one of the 2 pubs was not dog friendly and the other, whilst the food was lovely, was very quiet and lacked a bit of atmosphere.

Very nice comfortable cottage. Well equipped. Had some trouble with the hob and WiFi (wrong login in the book) but other wise no problems. There is no phone signal in the village for mobiles. The location is great for lots of sightseeing with lots to do and see with plenty of literature in the cottage. Would make a return visit to this cottage.

This is a wonderful cottage.

This is a wonderful cottage. It is spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. There is a local store and pub, The White Swan, who allow dogs in, within a few yards from the cottage and we received a very warm welcome in both. The location is perfect for exploring the coast, Holy Island and inland. We had a great holiday here and would certainly stay there again.

We are had a brilliant holiday, it was our second stay in the cottage. We stayed in April 2017 and we believe it is time for some upgrading. The tap in the on-suite is in need of repair when turning it on it wets you. We had issues with the hob very difficult to turn it on at times. And on arriving we found the grass had not been cut, it was lovely weather and it was off putting sitting out in long grass. In all the cottages is very nice, but in need of some TLC, the kitchen wear needs replacing, the plates, mugs etc are looking old.

We had a lovely surprise entering the property. The pictures do not do it justice so we had no idea of how spacious it was going to be. There was a generous welcome pack and we felt like we had booked a luxury weekend away. The open plan living space was fantastic and all the furniture tasteful and well chosen. Everything felt like real quality and we feel so privileged to have stayed there.

Very spacious and comfortable cottage. Welcome pack collected from local shop which was very unexpected but gratefully received. All rooms are big and lots of bathrooms. Top bedrooms in eves. Lots of character. Local pub was great for food and nice atmosphere (Black Bull). I would bring own logs as super expensive in local shop. (You get half a bag which is complementary). Overall would recommend we had a lovely stay.
