It is with regret that we leave this warning but feel an obligation to those who may consider renting this place as we were victims of crime that could have been prevented. On our second night of a much-anticipated family vacation, we came home from dinner to find the apartment broken into. Laptops, a camera, clothing, jewelry and cash were taken. Adding incredible insult to injury were the following: despite an emergency number, there was no return contact from Habitat (property manager). a representative called the next day and asked that we meet them but they never showed up. Worst of all, we found out, after having spoken to the superintendent of the building, that there was a series of robberies in the last week alone and that Habitat changed the lock of the apartment across from us to an electronic one but not the lock in the apartment we rented. In other words, they knew of the risk and yet they rented the apartment to us. Based on this last discovery alone, they should have, at the very least, refunded the full amount. But this is too much to expect from a company that demonstrated nothing but ineptitude, an absence of professionalism, zero compassion, and a complete lack of understanding that their business model rests solely on the safety and satisfaction of their customers.
