The space
I am a 63-year old art curator who loves living by the beach and enjoying nature. My place is small, so would suit active guests who want to be in the outdoors, enjoying beach walks, cycling, kayaking and birdwatching as the area has plenty of opportunities to enjoy these past times. The guest suite is spotlessly clean with lots of character and is fully sustainable with solar panels, filtered rainwater and double-glazing as well as recycled furniture. Please note that the property is the one downstairs, and closest to the road which has two water tanks attached to it. It has a 10 metre flat driveway leading to the garage. If you go upstairs there is a shared deck area which is closed in by plastic roller blinds. You are welcome to use this area.

While there is a shop in ƌrere Point which sells necessities, if you are staying a couple of days, it is advisable to bring groceries with you as the area is isolated, and it is over an hour's drive to reach a supermarket. Takeaways (fish and chips in Kaiaua are excellent, and liquor is sold in the ƌrere shop) close around 6pm in ƌrere Point store and 7pm at Kawakawa Bay.

Part of my collection of Tongan tapa, paintings, prints and embroideries by some of New Zealand's leading artists is on display.

Guest access
On arrival, you can use the remote control and drive right in to the garage. Make yourself a cup of tea before you get ready for a swim, and walk through the laundry to the bedroom and en suite bathroom.

Serene vibe with a spectacular view

Close to the beach and lots of lovely scenery made my stay very pleasant. Linda was a wonderful host always ready to help if needed. The cottage was clean and tidy with everything you need. Highly recommend this little spot for a quiet relaxing retreat 😊

We were very confused as to where we were to sleep - downstairs was the bathroom but upstairs the towels were on the bed...a neighbour walked into the sun room for a glass of water and said we were supposed to be downstairs.....the write-up on the property said it was an entire house which sleeps 2 people......the upstairs part of the house was open and unlocked so we thought we had the whole house to ourselves. Very confusing. Downstairs was very clean and nice but upstairs was very dated, tattered and cluttered. In the future, the owners should lock and close the upstairs portion of the property and revise the description of the area to be rented. We felt it was overpriced for what we got.

Small studio in quiet village

The property was accessed via the garage. The kitchen was very basic with nowhere to put wet plates etc after washing up. There is a 2 ring hot plate for cooking which didn’t appear very safe. The washing machine leaked all over the kitchen floor when used. There is no living area, just 2 chairs in the bedroom and storage for clothes is just a small wardrobe in the bathroom. The upstairs had a young couple staying so the shared deck did not seem usable to us. The couple upstairs were quite noisy and could easily be heard moving around upstairs.

Orere Point Stay

Very well set up property - quite small so can only be for couple. Quiet location very handy to beach. No TV so bring your laptop if must have news :)

No comfy chairs to relax at night, Just one swivel chair and a couple of old uncomfortable chairs. Luckily took radio as no TV or radio in room Frig was old and not sealing.. Clothes dryer venting into kitchen making floor etc wet. The multiple power boards in the kitchen were also a bit of a concern The redeeming feature was probably the bathroom which was bright and modern except for the wardrobe being in the bathroom

A stay amongst the birds

Very pleasant clean property, lovely to arrive to after a long trip and just as appeared in pictures. Well insulated with good opportunities for good airflow when it’s warm. The owner is very responsive to any requests. The kitchen is very basic, no oven and only basic hobtop, which looks to not have been used for a long time. While there was a tray of kitchen goodies, everything was a little jaded (old tea/coffee etc), luckily had brought my own. Could have used slightly more laundry detergent for a week, but to be fair I extended my stay by 1 day. Otherwise I was very pleased, the bathroom is beautiful and very pleasant to use. Great to have an internal access garage, gave a bit more space for the small dogs. Bed was very comfortable, all linen of good quality. I would definitely rent this property again. The location is lovely, nestled amongst trees, but still sunny, free roaming chickens and a goose as neighbours. 10 minute walk to the beach, and corner store even closer.

Good Stay

Worth what we paid. Would stay again Definitely needs a little bigger deck off the side door, just enough for two chairs. The shared deck doesn't work for us.

First impression was ''ok''. As we got into the place we were sort of falling over each other. It was too small. Thank goodness we had fine weather The continuous noise from the garage was getting unbearable and the clack clack noise hot water tank at 5.15am in the mornings. The fishing was zilt only stingrays. We were lucky we had a call from home that we had to leave a day early other wise we would have left anyway.

The bed is awesome slept like a log all 3 nights, bathroom everything you need, cooking facilities superb, we did a coast to coast day trip, collected some shells, bringing the fishing rods next time. Thank you Linda very relaxing.

When we arrived property smelled musty, advert was misleading, in that your given the impression you have sole use of property with others from your party. In fact there are people living above , making noise all day, walking around and talking, which can be heard below, the shared patio is full of power tools and clothes from the couple that live above, and can’t be used. When the host was informed her answer was to meet the couple and make friends, or go for a walk on the cliff top. Had we not wanted a weekend away together alone, that could have been an option. But we chose the property solely for a quiet weekend away that was not the case.bedding smelled old and musty, pillows were old and stained under the covers, when replacing the mattress perhaps upgrade the bedding? Totally unhappy would never return.

We enjoyed our short stay in the bach. The property was well located and thoughtfully furnished with everything you need for a short relaxing stay. Being able to bring our two small dogs too was a bonus. Linda the host was professional and courteous.

Neat and quite

The property was clean and tidy. We felt the the description was misleading as the photo of the "Deck" area was not accurate. Half of it now is covered in which is lovely. However this deck is upstairs and is a "Shared " area with the unit upstairs. It is occupied with all their gear and their living space opens straight onto it. The other part of the deck is right outside their bedroom. Therefore we were not prepared to use it as we prefer our private space. It was to late to complain at the time as there was no other Accomadation options in the area so we made do and still had a nice time away from the Kids etc. Orere Point is lovely and quite with a cool sea line.

Well provisioned little unit with beautiful art

Well provisioned little unit with comfortable bed, modern bathroom and larger fridge. Check in procedure very easy. Linda has some beautiful art and has added some nice little touches. The neighbourhood is very relaxed and laid back and I enjoyed a long walk along the interesting beach one day.

Cosy wee spot

Very small space, great shower, very comfortable bed. A little bit of noise from upstairs tenants made it difficult to relax though. Ended up going home a day early but that's OK. Linda is a great host, excellent communication

I only needed a comfortable bed for 3 nights - was busy elsewhere during the day. It was perfect.

Spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed, very nice bathroom, nice peaceful location. The room is fairly small, but was fine for me. Internal access garage was great. It's worth noting that if you're coming from the south later in the day there are no food shops open after Matamata, a long way south - maybe the information supplied could point that out..

This property has a unique art collection and is furnished with birdwatching binoculars and books. It is close to the Miranda Shorebird Centre and to the 440 Mountain Bike Park.
