Great value family accommodation

Thank you to Vera for giving us an opportunity to have a budget-friendly holiday in Cairns. The house has everything you need - clean sheets and towels, comfortable beds, great hot water system, very clean patio area and well kept lawn (fully fenced and used by ourselves), washing machine and under cover washing line, wi-fi, TV, vacuum cleaner and hairdryer. Yes, there is some wear and tear on the property, and dust has settled into the nooks and crannies, but it was as expected. We have 4 kids and they all enjoyed our stay.

The owner was very kind and the place is good. Bit dusty but no problem for us. If the climate get higher to use air conditioners, the owner need to clean these. We never use these because looks very dusty. However, the owner prepared everything we needed. Especially he picked us up at airport by very reasonable price. If you don’t use rental cars you can take bus. The bus stop is very close to the place. The price is only 50cents!

We have a pleasant and comfortable stay. The house is spacious with all necessary amenities. Mr Vera was so helpful and very easy to interact. The place is very affordable and it is in a convenient location.

Great place to stay

Vera was a great host. He was was easy to contact whenever we needed something, since he lives upstairs he could help out quickly. Our family stay was enjoyable and would absolutely come back to stay again. Also very affordable for spacious rooms and close to most areas to visit.

Family stay

Great family friendly house. House has a good sized backyard for your personal use, undercover verandah and table tennis table. There is a piano inside (which the kids loved making lots of noise on) and large TV. House is basic but perfectly sufficient for a budget family holiday. Hosts live upstairs and kindly retrieved the pingpong balls from under the fence (many times!)

Needs refurbishing

We are basic travellers with basic needs. The Lovely downstairs home basically covered the requirements. There needs some investment into the rooms. Bit of foot traffic noise from upstairs. However if you are looking for a crash pad with a fridge and stove at a standard rate this place will suit.

Everything we needed

We stayed for a week and Vera’s had all the amenities required to make our holiday pleasant. Check in was super easy, as was check out. Vera was kind enough to allow an earlier check in as well, which was great. Only really had two issues during our stay. Surrounding neighbours could get quite noisy at times and some kind of alarm went off every morning at 1am. Some mornings it would go off several times, others only once. Not sure where it was coming from, but it was quite annoying being woken at that hour every day. Otherwise it was a comfortable stay, everything we needed, easy access to the city and surrounds and affordable.

Excellent value for money.

We enjoyed our 4 week stay. Vera lives upstairs and is very helpful, you can call on him anytime. He is always very willing to attend to the needs of his guests. The guest area of the house which is downstairs is clean and spacious and has everything you need, including a nice hot shower with plenty of water pressure. An excellent washing machine and Vera has strung a line under cover in case of rain. He also has lines to dry your clothes in the sunshine. There is a lovely outdoor area which is very private just for his guests. It is a 2 minute walk to the IGA store, bottle, kebab and pizza shops, plus Chinese massage. The bus stop is across the road. The Uber service is great, only 5-10 minutes waiting time. We highly recommend you stay at Vera’s.

Rented the family accommodation in September 2022; we were a family of 5 with 3 children under 10 visiting from Perth- they are noisy our kids- the fact that we had our space- the kids could run around and be themselves, it was the perfect place; The owner was so nice and would give us our space. The place was nice, it was hot and there were aircon in all rooms. We had an amazing Holiday; the place may seem old fashion for some but for us it was just perfect, vintage, cozy, peaceful, quiet, eco-friendly and since we were from the Mauritian culture, it was like going back to Mauritius because the house, furnitures, the settings, the layout, the plants, the fruits, the yard, the green all were exactly how our house and yard used to be back in Mauritius. It felt familiar, it felt right and it felt like going back in our childhood my husband and I. It is walking distance to a small shopping place and the city was 10 mins away. The location is spot on to access everything quick and easy. Highly recommended

The hosts were lovely sharing oranges and mandarins from their trees on the property, hot water was not in plentiful supply, a hot shower in the morning was difficult to achieve. I had imagined cooking meals but the stove proved very unreliable, the coil elements seemed unable to be controlled and remained extremely hot regardless of where the dial was, very little bench space and I know this is out of the owner’s control but the tiny weeny orange ants ran rampant on the benches, some insect spray would have been handy, we stored everything in the fridge to avoid the ants in our food. The strip of shops across the road proved very handy for take away offering kebabs, fish and chips and pizza. Also out of hosts control were the neighbours and their loud music. Basically paid for what we got, cheap and a bed to sleep in.

Unit was terrible - built up grime on cupboards, in the fridge, sink, benchtops, toilet, shower. Stain on bottom sheet & mis-matched sheets - lounges had terry towelling covers that were a very poor fit & looked very lumpy underneath. A very very strong musty smell throughout. 2x Air Conditioner was loaded with grime & dust. When we informed the owner we couldn’t stay & asked the owner for a refund he got very aggressive -signaled to cut my throat twice - we were not given a refund
