Milton is a quiet neighbourhood comprised of character-homes and a close community of people that have lived here for years. My house is 18m above sea level so it's not ever flood effected but the lower lying parts of Milton, and towards the stadium can be.
Milton is 1.5km from the city, and 600m from Suncorp Stadium. The suburb is safe and street parking is very common here. The back of the properties on my side of the street are leafy as they back on to old farm land that is now mostly heritage protected. The land was gifted to the Anglican Church for one pound back in the late 1800s / early 1900s and the Church then sold the boundary properties on Heussler and Baroona Terraces, to the public. We think these houses were cottages where workers at the brewery lived.
From the front gate, looking out at the street, if you turn right on Heussler Tce and walk down the hill to the roundabout you’ll get to Suncorp stadium. Gates E and F are at the bottom of the hill (Castlemaine Street), If you want gates C and D turn left up Castlemaine Street and you'll see the walkway on your right to get to that side (main entrance) of the stadium.
For the closest (best) coffee nearby, again just turn right out the gate and walk down the hill about 150m, you’ll see on your right a coffee shop with sandwiches etc. called Caffeine Robbers (corner of Heussler and Finchley). It’s open every week day until about 1.30pm, until 11.30am on Saturday and closed on Sunday. There's toasties and wraps there too, which are pretty good.
If you walk down Finchley Street, once you get to the bottom you can turn left and take the back way to the BP and Maccas. There's an Officeworks next to the BP too.
If you cut through and past Suncorp, you’ll eventually get to Caxton Street. That street always pumps on game days and I think they shut it down for big events like Magic Round. It has a few pubs there. Lefty’s has live music on weekends and I think it’s licensed until 2am. If you walk all the way up Caxton Street and cross at the intersection you’ll get to The Barracks. A few more restaurants, Bavarian Beer Café, Sushi chain, BWS and a Coles are located there. I believe there is a Barber Shop there too.
If you turn left and walk down Heussler Tce, you’ll get to the intersection. Cross over Baroona Road, turn left, and you’ll find Milton Marketplace which has an IGA, Liquorland, KFC, Sushi place, bakery, chemist and pizza shop. There’s a little coffee shop there too but Caffeine Robbers is better.
If you walk past Milton Marketplace cross over Milton Road, you’ll get to Park Road, and off that is Railway Tce. There’s a brewery called The Common on Railway Tce, a Ribs and Rumps and an awesome coffee place that’s situated in a bunker, called Bunker. Down that way the markets are on every Sunday too.
On Park Road, there are a few bars and restaurants too. The craft beer bar is called The Scratch. The Thai restaurant and Arrivederci Italian are pretty good.
For other cafes and bars you can walk to Paddington where The Paddo is your closest pub. Cafes litter that street too. The other local option is Rosalie. That has a fish and chip shop, a Grill’d, Mexican, Vietnamese and Japanese restaurants. It has a bar / burger joint called 5 Buroughs as well which always plays sports.
There’s no real fine dining in this area. You need to go to the city, New Farm or South Bank which are all only 10 mins from here in an Uber.
However, in Paddington, you will still get a higher end experience at Nota, Elementi (both Italian), Ngon (Vietnamese) for food and a decent wine list, and Noir which is a wine bar on Given Tce.
TRAIN
The train is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the house. It’s one stop to Roma Street Station in the City, or two stops to Central Station (get off here if you want to go to Queen Street Mall to Shop or down to Eagle Street bars) You can access the station from Milton Road or Railway Tce.
We kindly request our guests to refrain from parties or loud gatherings in consideration of our peaceful family-oriented neighbourhood. However, there are numerous licensed venues nearby that can cater to your late-night entertainment needs, operating until 2 am. We have strict quiet hours from 9pm - 7am as the neighbours are close and there is a seperate airbnb downstairs. We love to take family's and not large groups of individuals due to second listing downstairs called "Private Retreat 600m to Suncorp"
Please note the underneath of the house is strictly out of bounds as this a seperate listing
Please take note that our property does not have a back fence. While we warmly welcome pets, we kindly ask that you ensure they receive proper care and attention during their stay. Please be mindful of this and for their safety, we recommend securing them on the enclosed deck, which can be easily adapted to suit their needs.
NOTE: Minimum booking age requirement is strictly 25.
We have a strict no party policy or loud noise, and breach of this will forfeit bond. We value our neighbours who will contact if issue arises.
Please note: a pet fee of $33 per animal, per night (max. 2), will be charged separately to reservation total. Pets will be need to approved, and questions answered about the pet prior to checkin.
Only the bedding set out for your booked number of guests is to be used. Usage of any extra bedding without prior approval will incur charges of $50 per night per item used
