Fenian Retreat. Nestled on the edge of Kahurangi National Park, Karamea.

Come stay, unwind and check out the stunning scenery and beautiful sunsets from the deck. Relax in the hot tub and you may just hear the resident Kiwi after dark. Wake up to the birdsong in the mornings it is truly magical and the view out to the Tasman Sea is awesome. The house is self catering or Karamea has great eating places. Great coffees and pies at Vinnie's Cafe in the township. There are ample things to do in Karamea or just come and sit out on the deck and unwind or cosy up by the fire. Ride or walk the Heaphy Track and relax in the hot tub when you arrive. We cater for couples or four singles for the bed arrangements you just have to let us know what you prefer. You won't be bored Karamea also has short walks, cave tours to the Oparara Caves or just go visit the Oparara Basin we have spectacular scenery here on the West Coast, take an evening stroll around the Karamea Estuary track. Bring your rod and cast out for a snapper at Mossyburn Bridge or throw the line out up the Karamea River for a trout. Check out our museum and the history of Karamea. The Karamea Information Centre website has great information on things to see and do. The address is 334 Oparara Road, Karamea. You will see the house as you drive along the road. Perfect for post Heaphy rest and relaxation!

We really enjoyed our stay at Fenian Retreat. The house is spotlessly clean and very very comfortable, with a beautiful outlook over farmland to the ocean.

Comfortable, with a great view

Found this to be a really warm, modern place to stay. Located up on the treeline, the views are fantastic, and even better when the sun sets. Hot tub was warm on arrival and a very welcome way to enjoy the evening.

Incredible Accomodation

Thoughtfully furnished and appointed, Fenian Retreat provided us a perfect two night stay. We didn’t want to leave.

A place to breathe

We had a wonderful few days in Karamea. The view is stunning especially the West Coast sunsets. Weather was perfect. The accomodation was A. They thought of everything and supplied so much. The hot tub was a real bonus. Couldn’t fault a thing about the place. Could have stayed longer as it was so peaceful.

Stunning home with a beautiful view

This home is beautifully decorated, very warm and comfortable. Private space with a hot tub on the deck that was fantastic day or night. Everything you need is in this home and the host was very helpful. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful house, very excluded and beautiful view, the house is extremely clean. The bedding is comfortable. Negative feedback is; there is no barbecue as listed and the oven has been broken for a while and this was not communicated with us beforehand. When mentioned to host that she could have informed us, she was complaining about previous guest leaving home untidy and said that it is not an hotel, as a result of that the host expect you to vacuum/clean or she will charge additional fees.

Sorry that I made you feel that you had to vacuum the floor, obviously if there was a lot of food on the floor one would clean it up instead of walking it into the carpet and nowhere in our communication did I say that there would be an additional charge for cleaning, please provide proof of me asking you. The oven, yes the knob had been broken off the week before but one cannot work miracles to get parts and it did happen to arrive the day you arrived but needs an electrician to put it in and being rural we cannot just ring and they will come out to do it. There was gas Hobbs and a microwave to use just not the oven. You maybe should have contacted me the day you arrived if you were not happy, not contact me the night before you were leaving and I could have worked something out for you. Thank you for leaving our wee house clean and tidy.

An Oasis

This property was absolutely stunning - a recent build - Joanne and Steve have created a paradise in Karamea at the end of the road (literally). I just wished we had stayed longer here and had more time to enjoy the house which had been thoughtfully planned and decorated throughout and was really just amazing. It was a great end to our trip up the West Coast of the South Island and one day I plan to bring my wife back here!
