  • Stunning breathtaking views! Wonderful place to stay! Highly recommended.

"Another five star rating for this house!! Truly deserved. Case Vista del Mar is a wonderful house situated up in the hills with the most stunning breathtaking views over the bay. I doubt anyone would ever get fed up with the views (the photos don't do it justice). Surrounding the property are trees and fauna attracting the wildlife, hummingbirds, butterflies, coatis etc and to sit and watch the monkeys eating the mangoes, only metres away, was like being in a nature programme. The house itself is clean, spacious and very well equipped, particularly for families or groups. The master bedroom has a huge kingsize bed with a dual aspect of views with a fantastic ensuite. We were so grateful when Kate and Will changed one of the other bedrooms to two single beds from a double as our teenage sons wouldn't have been happy sharing a double!! In fact their decision to do this made it a firm booking for us. But I think the beds can become back to being a double if needed. There is a lovely pool regularly maintained with an outside shower for rinsing the sand from the beach off. We would advise to have a car as it is a long walk to the beach and town (and uphill in the way back). The town is a 5 minute drive away with some great restaurants, supermarkets, German bakery (yum!), pharmacy, surf schools (would recommend C & C Surf School on the beach) etc. Great communication from Will and Kate throughout. All in all a great rental!! We will have wonderful memories of watching the Olympics from here too."

  • Absolute Heaven

"The stars reflected like little lights in the smooth sheets of water that washed up on the beach in front of the house the evening we arrived. That is when I knew we were in for something special staying at Sand Dollar Cove. We were given exacting instructions on how to get there. The roads were easy to navigate and were in good condition, though the trek is not for the feint of heart. We wanted to get away from it all and enjoy time with family and friends in a setting ripe for adventure and SDC was the perfect fit for us. Our party included four adults and six children, four of whom were teenagers. We spent our days reading in the hammocks (great collection of books at the house - thanks!), sitting on the spacious porch overlooking the beach, boogie boarding, playing in the waves and riding the bike along the beach all the way to the estuary. In San Francisco de Coyote, we discovered a bakery and got to know the local grocer; he made us special drinks & helped us find food for all those teenagers. Pat (the manager) made sure we had all we needed and helped arrange to do a kayak trip through the mangroves. She had great recommendations for restaurants that were a short drive away. Cheo (the caretaker) brought us fresh eggs every morning, made pinto gallo & fresh tortillas for us, fried up fresh fish and made enough arroz con pollo that we actually had leftovers! (no small feat with a house full of teenagers) Cheo's son took the kids fishing one morning and Cheo made a bonfire for us on the beach. The howling monkeys woke us in the morning and we quickly adapted to the local habit of going to bed with the sun. By week's end, we felt like locals and could have stayed forever."

  • Perfect House for a C.R. vacation

"After a year in the planning, our family vacation in Costa Rica was even more than we hoped for, and much of the credit is to the house, Ventana del Mar. The pictures on VRBO drew me in and the actual house more than lived up to the pictures. We were a family of 10, ages 8 to 80, and every one of us enjoyed the pool, slide, palapa and the always cool open air living space surrounded by trees and greenery. The bedrooms were spaced so we never felt crowded. The 5 minute walk to the beach made beach trips a daily delight, especially with the warm ocean and the boogie boards provided. And few, if any, other beachgoers. The house had everything we wanted or needed. Gerardo, the caretaker, answered all of our questions and helped us arrange outings and rides to Samara. It is a short walk to the grocery store and several restaurants so we never lacked for eating opportunities. An added plus was the quick response from Michael, the owner, to each of our numerous questions during the planning. Ventana del Mar and Costa Rica will always be a special place to our family. All 10 of us would highly reccommend it for a fantastic vacation.!"
