  • Immaculate contemporary apartment overlooking Samara beach

"We just came home from a three week vacation to Playa Samara. We fell in love with this quaint little town and the lovely people who made us feel so welcome. We can hardly wait to come back some day! Deborah and Peter were wonderful generous hosts who really care about your comforts and quality of your vacation time. Gracias for all your love and care:) The apartment sits on a small hill , but very few steps needed to make your entrance. A nice outdoor sitting area filled with beautiful greenery and a cheery outdoor shower awaits you upon entering. The kitchen has a beautiful tiled island and all the glassware, dishes and cooking utensils needed to cook in. There is a lovely fresh fish market in the tiny village of Matapalo, just a few streets down from the apt. We enjoyed many fresh seafood meals, cooked on the outdoor grill. I really appreciated the availability of a washer, dryer and laundry detergent right off the kitchen. We spent many hours sitting on the comfy window seats, chuckling at the horses leaving in the morning to go to the beach, and coming back via the highway at night. There is a lovely bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and shower on the main level and another bath and shower upstairs. I loved the cozy loft bedroom, especially the balcony with two comfy rocking chairs. There's lots of fluffy towels available, extra sheets and large beach towels. The beach is only a five minute walk across from the apt. Town is about a 15 minute walk along the beach. Bus stops are right outside your door on either side of the street. Buses and taxis are inexpensive, and very safe. We loved hearing the monkeys and neighbouring brood of chickens. My husband really enjoyed the canopy tour zipline that is offered at the office located under our apt. We also really enjoyed the biological reserve hiking tour also located a short distance from the apt. There are many wonderful restaurants located on the beach and in the town of Samara. We need to come back to try them all!! There are a few grocery stores to choose from, but most often we shopped at the Pali. I would suggest asking your taxi driver to stop in Nicoya on your way from the airport to purchase a main supply of groceries. The grocery prices were better in Nicoya. Make a stop at the Samara info centre located at the Lo Quey Hay restaurant. They will give you valuable information regarding tours, etc. Very helpful staff:)) You will fall in love with this place in paradise! Enjoy!!"

  • Beautiful house and property

"We just returned from 10 days at the gorgeous property! With the smaller house we were able to easily accommodate 3 families. Some highlights: -The fresh grapefruit that was ripe in the trees out front. We enjoyed every morning (and nights in cocktails) -The resident iguanas that roamed the property delighted the children -The Howler monkey’s made an appearance about every second day. In our most memorable encounter one was about 6 feet from us in a tree. This was extra special in that most of the people staying on the beach proper were not treated to the monkey’s like we were -The pool was amazing to beat the heat and shaded over around 2:30. the shallow area was very shallow and great for kids -The outside seating area with the fans kept any bugs away and was amazing at night (we had worried about mosquitos, but there were barely any. Any bites were from ants or black-fly-like bugs) -We had a chef come in 5 of the night (Chef David Boyejo) which was a luxurious treat -Kayaking to the island (hard work though!) -A dinner at the Montelugana hotel (short walk away) -Wingnuts ziplining -All our transports and tours were on time – it was impressive! - We brought our own portable hammock and put it in the gazebo - it was fantastic (and nice to be closer to the pool) - Ample towels - was awesome Some things to keep in mind: - Do not underestimate the sunscreen you will need. The sun was HOT and STRONG. - The property was very private, but was not secluded. There is a small hotel on one side and a power station/cell tower on the other. This did not detract in any way from our experience, but may not come through in pictures -Some people have said the property was “weathered”, but we found it was normal wear and tear(and Samara Rentals was very responsive when something went wrong, e.g., propane ran out for BBQ) -We were told by a local guide to be careful of stingrays in the water at the beach entrance closest to the house, as they gather near the reef. He told us to shuffle our feet as we walk in the water. We did that, but also chose to settle and swim a bit further down the beach - The house is not close to a grocery store. Strongly recommend picking up as much as you can in the transport from the airport (perhaps in Nicoya), and freezing meat as it seemed to spoil quickly. The cab to town is 6$, but they weren't always available when we called - Bring pool floats if you can and sand toys for the kids (a bucket and shovel sufficed)"

  • Lovely condo spectacular view!

"This condo is just as depicted ...within walking distance to beach, with a fantastic view of the beach. Very safe; gated & guarded at all times. Owners are very responsive, and everyone to a person was helpful & friendly. Pool is beautiful also. Would definitely recommend!"
