  • So Relaxing

"We love Samara, and loved this place. It is a little bit outside of town, which we weren't sure about, but we ended up really liking the location. The drive back to town and the Samara beach is about 10 minutes, and about the same to Playa Carillo. It's extremely private, with only this home on the property. The home is a great layout, with the bedrooms all along one side, opening to the patio and pool, and the kitchen and living area also open to the patio. The house is not brand new, and doesn't have high end appliances, etc., but is very classic Tico and charming. We had 3 families staying together and the space was perfect for us. The patio has views of the ocean and beach, as well as the surrounding woods on the peninsula. There were lots of animals on the property which we enjoyed. We saw monkeys a couple of times, as well as lots of iguanas, some bats, an owl, and many different species of birds. The caretakers were very friendly and helpful, and responded quickly whenever we called them. We loved this place -- it is the real unspoiled Costa Rica, and we will definitely stay here again!"

  • Perfect house for a family getaway

"We had a very pleasant stay at Casa Pericos during the last week of March. The house is nice, fully equipped and clean and the view from the front deck is beautiful. Playa Carillo is a quiet village with a nice beach which is way less crowded than Samara beach. There are good restaurants within walking distance of the house. We will definitely go back ! • Beautiful view & safe, quiet, serene area

"We stayed in Sámara for 3 nights during our 8 days in Costa Rica in May 2016. Sherry was prompt and helpful with her emails prior to our stay. Upon arrival, Larry was welcoming and walked us around to orient us and answered any of our questions. It was dusk when we arrived and it wasn’t until the next morning (in the sunlight) we realized a few screens were bent just enough to allow bugs in. Best rule of thumb we found: once it was dark enough to need a light on inside (as few as possible so as not to attract more bugs!), we closed the windows and turned on the A/C in the bedroom. We had so few bugs that way, they weren’t bothersome (which is great for Costa Rica). The bedroom cooled quickly enough with the A/C to sleep comfortably. The WiFi worked well for us the entire stay. The villa is setup as a duplex (one building split into two separate houses, sharing an interior wall). Larry & Sherry live in the other part of the building. In this case, the kitchen/living room wall was the only shared wall (with a door we could knock on if we needed them). So you don’t have to worry about sound traveling from the bedroom and bathroom, etc. We heard very little of our hosts when we were there. When on our balcony, we could see their balcony and the pool area but never saw them out there. I got the feeling they intentionally made themselves scarce to give us our privacy and run of the property. A few times, as we pulled into the driveway, Larry would come to his front door to ask if everything was going well and if we needed anything. They seemed approachable and willing to visit or answer questions but took their cues from their guests (in our case, we enjoyed the solitude and privacy). When relaxing on the beautiful balcony overlooking the bay, I was grateful to have this quiet little sanctuary, away from the town of Samara and the road, where we would have heard music, people and motorbikes. We had a rental car, so this property worked great for us. The beach was a 15-20 minute walk/5 min drive. When deciding if you need a rental car, think of how often you walk at home. If you regularly walk to work, stores or restaurants, the walk to the beach should be okay for you (coming back is uphill, so you might opt for the $4 taxi). If you drive everywhere at home, this may not be the place to stay for you without a rental car. The quietness and serenity were higher priorities to us than being steps from the beach. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Samara."

  • Best Vacation EVER!!

"I am hesitant to write this review because it is a gem and I want to be able to rent it in the future but if you want to have the most wonderful holiday you need to stay at Casa Pacifica. Located between two of the most glorious and different beaches in Costa Rica minutes away walking. Just amazing. The house is over the top, providing everything you need. Pool was amazing and the outdoor shower too. The beds were SO comfortable. The kayaks were super fun to have, we paddled out to Isla Chora with turtles all around, the hermit crabs on the Isla were wonderful as well. Howler Monkeys, lizards, crabs, butterflies, flowers, crocodiles and so many birds. Doesn't get any better. Samara is a special place. We enjoyed coconut water from fresh coconuts everyday, the restaurants were yummy and the people beyond lovely. Pura vida. Pura vida. As mentioned in a previous review EVERYONE associated with this glorious home was so helpful, kind and friendly. I hope you get a chance to enjoy what we did, we can't wait to return."
