  • Superb property

"I spent four days at this lovely villa in Quillan in January. What can I say .. the villa was all I could have hoped for! The weather was amazing with wall to wall blue skies and sunshine but outside it was freezing! Not to worry, the villa was warm and cosy the whole time, thanks largely to the luxury of the underfloor heating and then of course there was the glorious woodburner, which we fired up in the evenings .. not because we needed more heat, but because it was just so great to lounge in front of it, watching the TV with a glass of the local Fitou! The villa is spotless ... the kitchen is fully equipped with all the utensils and crockery you could wish for plus, of course, a dishwasher! The ground floor is open plan and ideal for families or groups of friends ... you can cook, dine and doss around together, which is ideal! There is a double suite on the ground floor, which is ideal for those who might have less mobility than they'd wish and three more double rooms (two with twin beds) upstairs, with the biggest shower room I've ever seen for them to share. The garden is just beautiful ... it's got a great deck and pool area ... even though (naturally!) it wasn't being used in January!! The rear garden goes down to the River Aude and would be perfect for anyone wanting to do a bit of fishing. It might even suit those who are wild swimmers if there's enough water in the warmer seasons, that is! I think this property is a gem and would suit anyone looking for a break in the Languedoc. It's within an hour of the coast and glorious beaches of Argeles sur Mer and Canet Plage, the amazing city of Carcassonne as well as the classic towns of Foix & Limoux. Even in the depths of winter there was so much to see and do that I can't wait to return!"

  • Perfect place of retreat

"This charming little stone house is a perfect retreat for those who want to escape for a while from a busy and loud city life. It is exactly as described and lacks nothing needed for a nice vacation. The owners even prepared a fantastic fish pie to be warmed up for the evening of our arrival. Absolutely to be recommended to people who look for some time of tranquillity with the possibility to do hiking, walking or motorcycle tours."

  • A fantastic villa in a stunning location

"It’s hard to know where to begin to do justice to this lovely holiday villa. From the spotlessly clean pool and the extensive gardens to enjoy during the day to the comfortable beds and great air conditioning for a relaxing night’s sleep – everything about this villa is absolutely spot on for a great family holiday. It’s equipped like a proper family home and there was nothing we needed that hadn’t been provided. We had 3 generations to accommodate and the layout of the villa was ideal for that. There were options, both indoors and out, for eating and socializing together but also plenty of space for children (and grandparents!) to have some privacy and chill out time. The highlight for our 4 grandchildren, aged 9 and under, was definitely the fantastic heated pool and there was seldom a time when at least one of them wasn’t enjoying splashing around in it, closely followed by hide and seek in the extensive gardens! There are no close neighbours so the children were able to enjoy themselves without any worry of them disturbing anyone else. At night the adults relaxed on the terrace or round the pool and enjoyed the absolute peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside and star gazing in the clear night skies – the Milky Way was visible every night, just amazing. The owner is really prompt at answering queries and the housekeeping staff were all very friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to spend time with your family come here – you won’t be disappointed!"

  • Quirky in Quillan

"Cannot begin to say how much we have enjoyed our stay at Chez Clarkey. Never visited the area before and thought we would take a gamble with a little town house this trip (even though just 2 of us now). So thrilled we did and here are just some of the things we have loved: - The trip up the Rampe du Chateau to get to the little house - Our lovely white bedroom with lots of pillows - Breakfast on the terrace - Shopping for provisions at Quillan market (Wed & Sat) - Risking life and limb (and the hire-car) in the Gorges de Galamus on the way up to château de peyrepertuse - Lunch on the balcony  - The Chateau de Carach walk (No 10) around Quillon - in the shade - and we wished we'd taken a picnic to eat at C de C which lies 1/2 way round.  - Afternoon swimming in the little lake at Puivert - Aperitifs in the shady porch - The Féte Latino Espaniole in Quillon (last weekend in July) with local people making great music and the first live flamenco we have seen - Supper at La Galerie (more than once) - A cooler day in the medieval city at Carcasonne (1 hour's drive) - Blanquette de Limoux (Prosecco is so yesterday) at Le Palace, over the bridge, looking back at the sweet Chez Clarkey - A cozy night in by candlelight  - Feeling sick on the drive back from Ax de Thermes along the Col de Pailheres (hair raising hairpin bends) - Julie for replacing the duff coffee machine - Sitting on the twinkly roof terrace with a coffee after a long day, thinking how lucky we were to find Chez Clarkey! The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is we would have loved some external shutters on the bedroom windows to keep out the heat on hot August afternoons and nights."
