  • A great holiday

"Lovely, bright, clean accomodation. The house provided an ideal base for exploring beautiful Mayo. We enjoyed the 15 min walk into the village for shop, pubs and eating places. Would recommend The Country Kitchen for meals."

  • We felt right at home at The Home of My Heart

"We stayed at Teach mo Chroi – Home of My Heart – cottage for a week this September and it was the perfect place for our group. From the gate, emerald green lawn, and flower-filled window boxes to the spacious interior, it is a lovely place, had everything we needed. It was very comfortable for our group of seven people. We enjoy gathering for meals and the large kitchen worked well for us. It was equipped with everything we needed and had a large round table where we ended up spending a lot of time. From the kitchen there is a view that includes what I think was Croagh Patrick, the mountain on the coast. We had cars, so the location in Ballintubber, not far from the bustling town of Westport, was very good for our day trips to Kylemore, Achill Island, Ballintubber Abbey, and excursions to Westport for dining and shopping. There is a large collection of DVDs and CDs (which we used), a library, and some sports equipment (which we did not use). The house was very clean, well-decorated and well-furnished. I came to Ireland earlier than the rest of the group and had corresponded with Karla, one of the cottage owners, about things to see and do near the cottage, in the towns along the West Coast of Ireland and even transportation options from the airport. She is a wealth of information and gave me great advice that helped make my travels really special; I had my own personal travel planner! This was a great place for me and my group of friends; we settled right in as if it were our home."

  • Excellently fitted house in a stunning location

"This is one of the best houses we've had in the many years we've been coming to Ireland as a group. The house is beautiful, has generously proportioned rooms and is in very good condition: furniture, fittings and fixtures all virtually pristine. The kitchen is well equipped with sufficient pots, pans, glassware and crockery for 6 people, as well as all the tools you could wish for, including oven gloves. Nice touch: Not only were cleaning agents and cloths of all types supplied, including dishwasher and washing machine tabs, Siobhan also left a welcome basket, with tea, milk and other necessities - like biscuits! - to start us off. There was also plenty of toilet paper, gas in the grill, and wood for the stove. The house is located at the end of a secluded drive with a spectacular view over Lough Mask, and is only a 10-min drive from Clonbur, which has a well supplied grocery store and 2 pubs with good food, both with music sessions. There are larger grocery stores about 20 mins drive away. The location is excellent for exploring Galway (ca. 1 hr to the city), Mayo and the wilds of Connemara, with lots of superb walking and fabulous vistas across mountains and lakes. We were lucky enough to get walking tips from neighbours doing some farm work next door and had 2 excellent long walks using the OS map Siobhan also kindly supplied. The big stack of brochures in the hallway with info about restaurants, excursions and sightseeing options was very useful, as was her folder with machine operation instructions, local restaurants and shops, etc. We were close enough to climb Croagh Patrick (challenging steep climb) had we wanted to, but the cloud cover was too unreliable when we were there. We had no rain all week, although it was October, and the changing skyscape over the lake was always a joy to watch morning and evening with a cuppa while sitting on Siobhan's lovely deck. There are play areas inside the house and in the garden for kids, with lots of toys supplied. This house would be good for couples looking for a secluded getaway, or a family with children who like walking, as well as for a group of friends like us who like to sightsee, walk and cook. Our one regret was that we never got to meet Siobhan in person, but phoned and texted her several times. She was an assiduous host even across the "ether", making sure we had all we needed, and made a very friendly and helpful impression. A fantastic experience all round!"
