  • An amazing place, if you're up for it

"We traveled as a family with two young boys (11 months, and 3 years) and their aunt & uncle. Palmeras provided some challenges for us, and yet we absolutely loved our stay and would recommend it highly if you know what you're getting into. It's not great for babies. The outdoor-style living and many concrete steps are not ideal for any child who isn't a confident walker, and the insects/bugs definitely go for the youngest flesh. Our baby had a hard time, which did impact our enjoyment a bit. But again, we still loved our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return. The beach feels like a private beach, and the pool is refreshingly not heated for those hot days. We did not rent a car, but were also content to spend most of our days at the house and beach, scheduled around our kids naps. This house is great for that type of vacation. For one that is more active, you might want to be closer to town. But renting a car also would have made this easy. The most amazing part about this house is the staff. We had 3 people with us every day: Bernardo the grounds keeper, Uni the cleaner, and we hired Veronica to be our cook (Aurora was not available). We both speak Spanish and so the friendships and conversations we built during out 10 days there were a huge highlight. Having someone who speaks Spanish in your group will greatly add to the pleasure, and make things a lot easier. The owner was not the easiest to communicate with during the rental process. Long emails would be answered with one word responses, usually late. We had to wire the money, and then take it on ourselves to call Mexico and arrange details with Bernardo and Andres (the driver). The shower in one of the bedrooms had no hot water, and we felt deceived by the posting claiming there is wifi. What was meant is that there is cell reception down by the beach, so if you have am international data plan you can check internet that way. All in all, if you know what this place entails and are excited by it, you will not be disappointed. And I don't think it's for everyone. It's isolated, and it feels like roughing it, while at the same time feeling totally luxurious with pool and beachfront and 3 staff waiting on you. Confused yet?"

  • Perfect in everyway!

"My husband and I stayed in "The Duke" for a week in February and loved every minute of it. Casa Canela exceeded our expectations and was exactly what we were looking for during our first visit to beautiful Troncones. Our accommodations were comfortable and clean with many pleasant amenities. We enjoyed relaxing on the covered patio while admiring the well kept grounds and watching and listening to the birds. Lyn was very responsive to all of our questions prior to our arrival and during our stay. She had great recommendations for us that we would not have known about without her assistance. Her staff (Lolita and David) were amazing and did a great job to make us feel like we were at home. Casa Canela has a great location and is just steps away from the beach and within walking distance of many restaurants. We are so happy to have found this ideal spot and look forward to our next visit."

  • A spectacular property and experience

"We were spellbound from the moment we opened the gate into Casa Maya. We wove through the abundant tropical garden lush with flowers and succulents to an open 180 degree view of the ocean and distant Manzanilla Bay. Perched right on the beach is an expansive infinity pool that encircles the side of the outdoor kitchen and living area - A luxury campsite. Pelicans in flocks of 10 - 12 peel low over the site and horses approached from the beach offering rides. We could see surfers in the distance. The two front sleeping rooms are decorated with folk art and magnificent indigenous stone and ceramics. A double bathroom in each includes an outdoor shower enwrapped with bougainvillea and vines. Beautiful teak shutters allow for every adjustment for sun, wind and weather. A beautiful ocean breeze and surf sounds accompany every hour of the day. The temperature was perfect during our stay and even a bit of rain was welcome. The staff was like family and provided anything we needed and the local restaurants offered delicious fresh caught seafood. Surfing is close by and more recently mountain biking trails abound. Casa Maya offers a very special mix of native outdoor living and pure luxury. Our family of 9 with 3 children under 7 all found it close to paradise."
