  • Conveniently Remote!

"Exactly as advertised....maybe better! First of all, Diane was an awesome hostess. As others have shared, she does a great job making you feel at home with a nicely appointed cottage and fresh flowers. The supplied coffee, bread, jam and fruit make for a nice, light breakfast before heading out to explore the beaches, rivers, hiking trails or wineries. Her husband Bob did a magnificent job building the cottage which is warm, cozy, contemporary and full of light due to some oversized windows in every room. Tiny house living at its finest! The cottage sits on 5 acres of property shared with the homeowners. Normally, being on the same property as the owners is not something that we would opt to do. But, Diane and Bob definitely give you your space. Besides a nice welcome when we arrived and tour of their garden right before we left, we really didn't see them. Yet, we had the security of knowing they were right there if we needed them for help with the appliances, fireplace, internet, etc. If you haven't been to Mendencino before, you will love this little coastal town. The cottage is only about .25 mile from access to a "locals only" trailhead that syncs up with the Russian Gulch State Park waterfall trail. At about 2 1/2 miles round-trip, it is definitely worth the walk/hike. The cottage also sits a couple of miles north of Mendencino and south of Fort Bragg. Caspar Cottage was the perfect getaway for a romantic weekend with nice blend of adventure and relaxation. If we were to come back to this area, we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Thank you Diane and Bob for creating such a beautiful space and sharing it with others!"

  • Perfect for Couples or Family and close to Trails!

"Relaxing in the hot tub was fantastic. We had 2 couples and 3 kids and it was plenty roomy. The coastal trail at the end of the lane is beautiful and I was able to run there from the rental. Very peaceful. Well equipped kitchen. The short drive to Mendocino is very scenic and it was easy to go back and forth. Definitely would rent there again!"

  • Would go back in a heart beat!

"What a wonderful home, and how magnificently situated. The interior has been cleverly decorated, not fussy but still personal and interesting. The kitchen is the best equipped of any VRBO home that i have stayed in. (What a pleasure to have a decent set of knives to work with!). We were 3 couples visiting (somewhere in the "senior" category) and had a great time. We were mostly indoors because of high winds, but the view over the stormy seas was hypnotic. Prior to our visit I was concerned that 2 of the couples would be sleeping in double beds and sharing the shower/bath but it worked out fine. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for our "staggered" showers. I would suggest if you are 6 adults staying there you should let the owners know and ask if they could bring in an extra comfy chair for sitting by the fire, as the seating in the living room hasn't been set up for 6. The owners are very helpful so I am sure they would oblige. Mendocino is delightful and the coast line is magnificent - a great place to visit"

  • Third Annual Red, white and blue week

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is our families third year spending the Fourth of July week at Alderwood House. It is a great place to relax and check in with each other away from our busy schedules. Close to everything and at the same time a million miles from the rat race!!!"
