"My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend in late September/early October. The space was perfect to accommodate us and our son. We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub, and our son loved the little playground. The playground was also convenient in that there is a grill (I'm referring to the gas grill, but there are charcoal grills too) right by the playground, so our son had somewhere to run around while the food was cooking. There was plenty of room in the storage lot to park the jet ski trailer, and the office staff and other tenants couldn't have been nicer.
We drove to the East Inlet Trailhead at the far east end of Grand Lake, and took a short hike up to Adams Falls. Conveniently, the trailhead shares a parking lot with the Grand Lake public boat ramp, so we launched the jet ski and set out exploring Grand Lake, and took the canal to Shadow Mountain Lake. We found an island on the south end of the lake, and had a perfectly picturesque picnic lunch. The next day, we drove a short distance (1.5 miles) down 34 and launched the jet ski at the Stillwater access point on Lake Granby. This park had a $5 access fee, but it was well worth it given how enormous Lake Granby is. We went all the way to the south end of the lake and had a picnic at the Roaring Fork Campground.
It was just a lovely weekend, and we can't wait to come enjoy more time at the lakes!
On a separate note, I wanted to share our experience dining at the Grand Lake Lodge. The Lodge has a spectacular panoramic view of Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake with a beautiful porch to sit and enjoy a drink. However, we were thoroughly disappointed with the service at the restaurant. For a restaurant to command a ~$30 per meal price point, the level of service must match said price point. We had an inattentive server who forgot more than a few things, and our entrees took more than 40 minutes to arrive after we ordered them. Furthermore, the staff did not bus the table as we ate, so we had this pile of dishes from the appetizer, salads, entrees, and empty glasses by the end of the meal. A $100 meal is not a luxury we spring for very often, and while the food was pretty good, the dining experience was ruined by the service. I would come back here to enjoy another drink on the porch, but wouldn't eat at the restaurant again."
