  • Gorgeous rental

"Just finished 5 nights at Riverview for my daughter's wedding at Mystic Seaport and we couldn't have asked for a better house to stay in. The house was immaculate and the descriptions were accurate. We had 4 family units staying there. One stayed in the apt over the garage and the others stayed in the main house. Plenty of bedrooms which were very large and bathrooms for everyone. We had a clambake on the property which was a huge hit. Everyone loved the house and the location right on the river. It is so convenient to downtown Mystic where the young people actually conducted a scavenger hunt at various popular places, Mystic Pizza of course, the Harp and Hound Irish pub, the drawbridge ice cream shop, many captains homes, etc. We held the rehearsal dinner at the Engine Room restaurant, an industrial decor with fantastic food and service. We had extremely warm weather but the central air kept the house cool and comfortable. The 2 kayaks and the canoe were in constant use. And the ducks with their ducklings who came up to the back yard were adorable. We couldn't resist feeding them! You will not be disappointed renting this house."

  • Perfect for our family vacation!

"Seven adults and six kids had a wonderful time at the Creek House. There was plenty of room for all of us and the amenities were plentiful - stocked kitchen, games, books, movies, outside toys, swingsets and anything else you could possibly need! Big boys loved the crabbing under the bridge and even the 5 year old jumped off at high tide. We enjoyed our adventures to Rocky Neck, The Dinosaur Place in New London and Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park. In spite of the heat, we enjoyed a couple of nights around the fire pit. The kayaks got a lot of use, including a sunrise trip which produced some great photos! The house was very clean and super comfortable. The owner was very accommodating. Enjoyed the binder in the house with information on area attractions and also the one with the history of the house - quite interesting. Highly recommend - hope it's still a rental for the next time we decide to get together in CT!!!!"

  • First annual gathering of the clan

"I wanted to get my CT adult kids and my RI adult kids and their children (my grandchildren) all in one spot for a few days of fun. It was PERFECT. The little ones got to play together, the weather was great, the beach was lots of fun and the house was so cozy, comfortable and CLEAN. We all felt like we were at home, only better. Our hosts (right next door) were very attentive to details, including their email correspondence. We hope to return next summer."

  • Ideal for a long week-end getaway

"My husband and I usually stay at an historic inn or a B&B for week-end escapes but this time we decided to try VRBO. I quickly realized most of the search results were for large families or extended families with descriptions of 8-11 bedrooms. For the few that were 1 bedroom rentals, most were lacking in character and had plain white walls and that beige worn out couch condo look. I was about to revert to a B&B site when I came across the listing for Little Wheel cottage. It seemed almost too good to be true but the pictures are indeed accurate. If you are looking for a place that has country charm in a good way, this is it! :) We fell asleep to the sound of the river right outside our bedroom window and in the mornings we enjoyed our coffee on the stone terrace custom built by the little waterfall. One evening before dinner while we were sitting there relaxing, a small raccoon came down from the opposite bank and took a few sips of water. This is the perfect place to decompress and do nothing. There is a tv in the living room but we enjoyed perusing the coffee table books and just vegging out on the comfy armchair and couch and the bed itself had his/her reading lamps. The kitchen and in fact the whole cottage was impeccably clean and the owner, who could not have been nicer, supplied us with beach towels and chairs for the town beach. While we came at the end of the summer, we could see how this would be a wonderful escape anytime of the year, particularly during fall foliage season because of the beautiful mature trees and the woods surrounding the property. As for activities, we loved that Lake Waramaug was within walking distance, although it's best to just drive to it if you plan to spend time at the town beach. There is an entry fee but they let you use their kayaks…a highlight of the week-end! We also like to hike and went to Mt. Tom State Park (Washington). This park had a $14 or $15 entry fee but it also had a nice lake and beach for swimming. Another day we hiked Macedonia State Park (Kent) There was no charge to enter but that could have been b/c it was Labor Day and the season was over. We plan to come back one of these days and would also highly recommend this getaway to friends."
