  • Cozy fourplex cottage on the beach

"Overall, it was smooth from check-in to check-out. Prompt responses from all parties involved via email and phone. The studio cottage was on the 2nd level of a 2-story fourplex. The overall property was pretty quiet during our stay and the beach/lawns were used by other vacationers, but did not feel overcrowded at all. In addition, parking spaces are tight but it was fine, we felt secure inside, outside and during all times of the day/night and property was outdated but it was kept well so it was just fine for us. The only thing I'd prefer was better street lighting and signage for the entrance--but this has nothing to do with the cottage itself. The cottage is quaint, had all amenities we needed and we also requested for specific items which were provided. We cooked almost every day, using the stove and oven. A picture of the shower and bathroom vanity needs to be added, because it was a nice surprise that it was a shower with higher walls that our kids were able to use as a bath tub and the vanity was larger than expected. The front enclosed porch area was great for sun bathing and when the windows were opened, the breeze you get is wonderful! The beach was just steps away. Overall we were able to enjoy it. Yes, I agree with others that it is a very narrow beach, especially during high tide--it's not a good time to lay out the beach mat or have kids play on the beach bc the water literally came right up to the 2 foot incline where the beach meets the grass. We were still able to hang out on the grass and enjoy the sounds and sight of the water and scenery. We planned a lot of North Shore activities, so this was a perfect location due to proximity. Overall, it was a pleasant stay."

  • Clean and spacious home.

"Loved being able to be with my family outside in the patio area and enjoying the beach across the street. Very accessible to places yet peaceful and quiet for our family. Thank you."

  • Great home away from home in paradise!

"Hale Moana Mele is a wonderful home away from home in paradise! After comparing Oahu choices away from the beaten path, this gem owned by Norman stood out in size, location & price. Upon arrival, our group of six found the home clean & the photos & description on the home page accurate. All 4 bedrooms have ceiling fans & window AC units, which were very important to us Texans! The AC's cooled the bedrooms quickly, though a bit noisy. The beds were comfortable & the bathrooms adequate. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, pots, pans, glassware, & dinnerware. It was so helpful to have 2 new front loader washers & dryers. The two car garage was a tight fit for our rental Ford Explorer & a smaller SUV, but with patience, the garage door came down. The best part of Hale Moana Mele is to be found outdoors. The views are gorgeous, especially the sunrises & sunsets through the palm trees. There are two very nice wooden decks on the 1st & 2nd floor overlooking the water. We spent a lot of time there at night listening to the waves. We enjoyed cooking on the charcoal grill almost daily & had several meals on the lanai (covered patio). The spacious back yard has 4 palm trees that help to make a beautiful sunset postcard. The beach is accessible through the side gate of a friendly neighbor’s yard. Roger was most helpful on any questions & helped immensely with recycling issues. He even made sure our trash & recycling cans were on the curb on the correct pick-up days. The other reviews of the beach are accurate. The beach is almost completely private, as we saw only a few people walking on “our beach” daily. The waves at high tide will touch the rock wall, but at low tide, there is plenty of room for sunbathing. Norman, the owner, checked on us via phone from time to time, but he was not at all invasive. Having the owner available for any help or advice was comforting. The souvenir shop owner across the street is very friendly, & he has some great bargains in comparison with the larger towns. Our favorite meal outside of Hale Moana Mele was at Haleiwa Joe’s in Kaneohe, a 30 min. drive south. We went in to Honolulu (50 min drive) twice & were eager to get back to the peace & quiet of our small town of Hauula. If looking for the excitement of a big city, complete with the noise & traffic, stay in Honolulu; however, if you want a quiet, peaceful, relaxing vacation, book Hale Moana will not be disappointed."
