  • SOME GOOD SOME DEFICIENCIES

"Dec 10- Jan 11, 2016 4 adults in suite. Grounds, pool chairs, exercise room , washrooms(we used day of checkout), BBQ areas and tables, lobby, all clean and very well maintained. Minimal sun in pool area and on grounds. Friendly, helpful staff at front desk (kept our luggage in office day of our checkout). Building has a TV room with tables and chairs and Wifi that we were able to use and did use day of checkout. If balcony doors open children in pool could be noisy as lanai overlooks pool. Building well located in quiet dead end street within walking distance of beaches,Waikiki, Ala Moana Shopping Center, Walmart and large grocery stores. Many homeless ACROSS the canal from building to whom I took any extra food. Suite large with well maintained modern appliances(coffee maker and washer/dryer were promptly replaced when we reported mold). Air conditioning worked well. The owners friendly and replied promptly to our emails. Coolers(2) in the suite. Convenient parking stall. Deficiencies: rug in living/dining extensively stained and needs replacement, no table on lanai which was very long with 3 balcony doors opening onto it. Without a table, we did not use the lanai as we would otherwise have(owners explained that could not get one the right size to fit lanai which is not very deep . Almost no sun on lanai. Kitchen sink improperly installed so if not careful water leaked into cupboard below. Kitchen sink faucet needs maintenance or replacement.Returned our damage deposit in full. No coffee table(owners did not want one in the suite), no computer desk in any of the rooms. Kitchen could use more glass bowls for salads etc. No pail in which to wash floors. Only 1 beach chair and 2 beach towels in suite. With the deficiencies mentioned, I think the price was maybe on the high side."

  • Great Place to stay for our Family Vacation.

"When we were traveling from the airport to our vacation rental, my daughter noticed some of the area we travelled through was a little sketchy. She asked if the home we were renting was nice. I indicated it was. When we arrived at the home we were not disappointed. The home is spacious yet cozy. My 3 oldest kids had their own rooms and my youngest made himself at home on the daybed. My family really enjoyed the pool. We went to Snorkel Bobs and rented some gear for the week. After learning to snorkel in the pool, we went to Hanauma Bay. It was awesome. This home is close to shopping and Waikiki Beach. It is not far from other attractions like the Sea Life Aquarium and Sandy's Beach. The Polynesian Cultural Center and other North Shore attractions are only 30 to 45 minutes away. The area was a little slower and much less crowded than Waikiki. The neighborhood is good. My family never felt unsafe. It is clear Mark has recently made some improvements to the property. Some are still in process but they did not affect our stay. Mark was very helpful. Any questions I had were quickly answered. After we left, my security deposit was quickly returned. This was my first time using HomeAway.com to find a place to stay. Having a home to stay in is so much nicer than a hotel. This home's private pool, the ability to park out front and a place for my amazing wife, myself and our 4 great kids to stretch out and not feel crowded really made the vacation great. Next time I am in Hawaii, I will see if this house is available."

  • Villa Koko was a great place to stay.

"The location is perfect. Close to Waikiki if you want the action, but close to the Windward side of the island which is a more laid back atmosphere. The place is clean, well laid out, and having Tweed come visit every morning was great. Marshall is more like a generous host than a landlord and made us welcome."

  • A dazzling perch in the sky over Waikiki, in the serene Gold Coast neighborhood.

"The Maile Penthouse can make you forget the rest of the world. Atop one of the midcentury Gold Coast towers fringing the foot of Diamond Head, the Maile feels suspended between sea and sky. The lights of Waikiki sparkle outside one glass wall, while the green flanks of Diamond Head's iconic pyramid fill the other. The apartment is efficiently laid out, with a comfortable bed facing a mirrored wall. There was a large flatscreen television, but I never felt the need to turn it on, preferring to spend evenings watching the sailing catamarans sweep past paddlers returning to the Outrigger Canoe Club next door. Likewise the air conditioning - I'm sure it works but the opportunity to sleep instead with trade winds carrying the sound of surf through the shutters was too appealing. Jan has thoughtfully provided almost everything you need, from Wi-fi to washcloths. There are dishes, utensils, a coffeemaker, a hair-dryer, iron, bath and beach towels, and cleaning supplies. The refrigerator was stocked with drinks and snacks. It's a short walk to central Waikiki's shops and restaurants, but I enjoyed many happy hours lounging on the lawn. Occasionally I'd slip into my flipflops to walk a few steps along the seawall and climb down the steel ladder into the warm surf. The Maile's building, the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, is small and quiet, with a mix of rental condos and owner-occupied units. Every resident I met was friendly, helpful and pleasant. Living in paradise makes people happy. It's not necessary to have a car on Oahu, as Uber, taxis and the excellent public bus system will get you almost anywhere on the island. The bus stops just a few steps from the Maile's building. Jan was helpful and readily accessible. She provided all the information I needed in advance of the trip and quickly answered any questions I had while I was there. I will absolutely return, the sooner the better."
