  • Worth The Stay

"I stayed at this property in July 2016. Both Candace and Janice were very nice and easy to work with. The property was a nice short walk to the beach and shops. 3 of us stayed in the apartment. We we're very happy with the place only a few minor "complaints". There is no AC in the smaller bedroom with the 2 twin beds ... which was like a sauna sleeping in there and we were scared to open the window after Janice telling us how we had to be careful because the windows could fall out ... therefore that bedroom wasn't utilized and our 3rd person had to sleep on the couch in the living room. The AC in the bigger bedroom works great for the big bedroom and living room, but the rest of the apartment (bathroom, small bedroom, kitchen area) was hot. Also the bathroom in the master bedroom was a sliding wooden door that I'm very scared if an older lady or kid went into that bathroom and shut the door they wouldn't be able to get out. I was stuck in there my first day and thank God my boyfriend was able to wiggle the door from the other side to get me out. We figured out a way to lift and push the door while opening and closing, but it definitely needs to be fixed so someone doesn't get locked in there (I will e-mail Candace to recommend this). The apartment was fully stocked with kitchen supplies, beach supplies etc. which was very nice. I wouldn't recommend using the beach umbrella's they were all pretty old looking and we tried one of them which just kept blowing inside out so we paid for the umbrella's they rent on the beach instead. But their were 2 nice chairs, a boogie board and some pool floats. We actually were given 2 more nice pool floats from someone on the beach, we left at the apartment, hopefully future guests could enjoy them. I agree the hallway and elevator was musty and hot with no air flow, but all in all I would def. rent this place again. I really enjoyed my time there and Candace made it possible by providing us with an affordable apartment. Oh and as for the parking spot, yes it was tight but we rented a jeep wrangler for the week and it fit fine. You do have to know how to maneuver it into the spot good, but I wouldn't necessarily complain about that space (hey it's free parking). The apartment was clean and spacious and I would recommend this place for sure. Thank you so much Candace and Janice for making our stay enjoyable ... I will definitely call you again next time I go visit my sister in Hawaii :)"

  • Desirable Corner Unit Indeed!

"Our family of 4 stayed here for 8 nights in June. Initially we were a little concerned about the size of the one-bedroom unit. We were pleasantly surprised that there was more than ample size for us all and our luggages. Waikiki Banyan is a great condo to stay in due to its convenient location, and we couldn't have asked for a more ideal unit than this. Except for the sofa bed which was too soft (but the children weren't complaining), everything else was perfect. Lynn was a dream to work with - I had some issues regarding the deposit and payment mode and Lynn did her best to accommodate my requests. She was very prompt replying to my emails and provided all the details needed to make our stay easy and comfortable. When we return to Waikiki in the future, we will definitely stay at Waikiki Banyan again. And I wouldn't bother checking out other units - Lynn's would be my first and only choice!"

  • Fantastic Views, Congenial Agents

"Our original Airbnb booking fell through when the condo was flooded by a guest the day before we arrived, so we had to scramble to find alternative accommodations after we arrived. To make a long story short, the final 5 nights of our stay were uncovered, but we found this Island Colony studio on VRBO that happened to be open, and it proved to be the icing on the cake for our stay in wonderful Hawaii. Kai Ching was as nice and personable as you could ever want in an agent. We had trouble with the Internet connection the day we arrived, so I called Kai, who contacted the provider, whom I later contacted. Nothing seemed to work, but we went out and when we got back all was well and we didn't have any more trouble with it. Kai offered to refund the entire $5/day fee, but I didn't feel right taking it all back, so we compromised on a 1-day refund. The minimum stay is 3 days--we stayed 5--and the daily rate was fairly low compared to other condos we checked. Island Colony is centrally located just one block from buses on Kuhio and 2 blocks from the main attractions on Kalakaua. Walk straight up Seaside 2 blocks to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center for free hula, ukulele, lomi lomi, lei making, and other classes. The new Nordstrom Rack has great bargains one block away on Kuhio and is beside the rear entrance to the newly refurbished International Marketplace (now very upscale compared to before). Access to Waikiki Beach is also very good. The closest supermarket is Food Pantry 2-3 blocks up Kuhio, and there are many restaurants within walking distance. Island Colony itself has a nice pool with jacuzzi and a convenience store. The condo was roomy, clean, and well equipped (kitchenette, bath, etc.). The lanai (balcony) is as large as a small room, with a see-through partition at the edge making the 3-way view (Ala Wai Canal, golf course, and mountain plus Diamond Head plus ocean) even better. We enjoyed breakfast and several dinners on the lanai. The bed was advertised as queen, but it wasn't as big as our queen at home, so I think it was just a double. But it was quite comfortable. No laundry in the condo, but on the 6th floor you can buy a laundry card for $5 and then put increments of $5 on it. Somewhat annoyingly, one load with the dryer is $2.75, so you have to add $5 more to do a second load! Nevertheless, despite these minor annoyances, this condo was quite a find, and I would highly recommend it to anyone."
