  • Wonderful time

    Michael L.

"We really enjoyed ourselves at this unit. Pros: clean, spacious for a studio, wonderful lanai with table for 4 and loungy type chair and view of canal and mountains (which I prefer to ocean which is just black at night), quick response to a request for a couple missing items, very nice pool deck and hot tub, public bbq's were spotless, quite an expansive store on 6th floor, nice beach mat, boogie board and really nice beach and regular towels. Good security (there was a mix up on my checkout date and key card wouldn't work, security guard was very thorough making sure I was supposed to be there, wouldn't even take owner's verbal okay, insisted on email from her). Cons: (not really of any concern though, just FYI), the building is a bit older but they keep it in good shape. Honolulu is a noisy city and all these older buildings have single pane or louvered windows and traffic seems to go on at all hours so unless you want to spend the big money on a beachfront new hotel, bring earplugs. Was getting a little worried about access info before arrival, hadn't heard 2 days before but then I did. I guess with back to back clients, one has to be judicious in giving out the info too early."

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I booked this unit for my son, daughter in law and grandson. This was their first visit to Waikiki. Perfect accommodation, location(close to the beach, shops, park) and amenities (BBQ, pool, laundry). The view of the Friday night fireworks was an added bonus. Mahalo"

  • Fantastic Views, Congenial Agents

"Our original Airbnb booking fell through when the condo was flooded by a guest the day before we arrived, so we had to scramble to find alternative accommodations after we arrived. To make a long story short, the final 5 nights of our stay were uncovered, but we found this Island Colony studio on VRBO that happened to be open, and it proved to be the icing on the cake for our stay in wonderful Hawaii. Kai Ching was as nice and personable as you could ever want in an agent. We had trouble with the Internet connection the day we arrived, so I called Kai, who contacted the provider, whom I later contacted. Nothing seemed to work, but we went out and when we got back all was well and we didn't have any more trouble with it. Kai offered to refund the entire $5/day fee, but I didn't feel right taking it all back, so we compromised on a 1-day refund. The minimum stay is 3 days--we stayed 5--and the daily rate was fairly low compared to other condos we checked. Island Colony is centrally located just one block from buses on Kuhio and 2 blocks from the main attractions on Kalakaua. Walk straight up Seaside 2 blocks to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center for free hula, ukulele, lomi lomi, lei making, and other classes. The new Nordstrom Rack has great bargains one block away on Kuhio and is beside the rear entrance to the newly refurbished International Marketplace (now very upscale compared to before). Access to Waikiki Beach is also very good. The closest supermarket is Food Pantry 2-3 blocks up Kuhio, and there are many restaurants within walking distance. Island Colony itself has a nice pool with jacuzzi and a convenience store. The condo was roomy, clean, and well equipped (kitchenette, bath, etc.). The lanai (balcony) is as large as a small room, with a see-through partition at the edge making the 3-way view (Ala Wai Canal, golf course, and mountain plus Diamond Head plus ocean) even better. We enjoyed breakfast and several dinners on the lanai. The bed was advertised as queen, but it wasn't as big as our queen at home, so I think it was just a double. But it was quite comfortable. No laundry in the condo, but on the 6th floor you can buy a laundry card for $5 and then put increments of $5 on it. Somewhat annoyingly, one load with the dryer is $2.75, so you have to add $5 more to do a second load! Nevertheless, despite these minor annoyances, this condo was quite a find, and I would highly recommend it to anyone."
