  • Beautiful, cozy getaway!

"Lovely, spotless cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan. My husband and I escaped there during the off-season (November) and it was perfectly silent except for the wind and waves. The cottage is perfectly appointed, comfortable in every way, super clean, with lots of light from all the skylights and windows. Lovely antiques here and there to remind you of its 1930s history. Jacuzzi tub was a welcome surprise (albeit small for a tall person). Super comfy king bed with room to spread out bags in second bedroom. The owners were precious and met us upon check-in to make sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend! We will be back!"

  • It was a nice home set back in the woods with a lot of privacy and near the vinyards

"The home was nicely decorated with 3 bedrooms and a small area with an extra bed. This was perfect for our needs as it had two living rooms and enough space for everyone. The backyard was small but had a small grill and fire pit. The home had everything needed for a small trip; extra blankets, wine glasses, frying pan ext. It was a 20 min walk to the beach or a five minute drive. It was also near the vineyards (2 blocks from 2). We would return for another weekend."

  • A Great Cousins Reunion -- Then a Frustration

"As vacation rental owners ourselves, we are very aware of the incredible effort it takes to keep a home well furnished, clean and in good repair. This home hits all the marks in many ways: It is roomy and nicely furnished. We all remarked on the very nice artwork throughout the house. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is large and very well appointed -- there were even wineglasses and good knives! The beautiful deck has lots of comfortable dining and relaxing choices. We had deer in the back yard every morning while we enjoyed our coffee. It is very, very clean and, aside from a few small maintenance issues which were quickly addressed, in good repair. It's a short walk to the beach, and close to lots of good places to eat, wineries, and other attractions. The owner, Kathleen, was friendly and attentive in the rental process and while we were there. As an owner, I am probably pickier than some -- but here are a few "cons": When we arrived there was someone else's wilted leftover salad, uncovered in the serving bowl, still in the refrigerator. Not awful, but still a little gross -- and we wondered if the refrigerator had been wiped out before our arrival. The first two nights we were there, there were no lightbulbs in the light fixtures on the front of the house. It was a real safety issue. That being said, when we expressed our concern to Kathleen she had it fixed the same day. Several of the lamps and light fixtures were also missing bulbs. We could not get the gas fireplace to work when we first arrived. Kathleen came quickly the next morning and had a repairman there within minutes. There are no towel bars in 2 of the bathrooms. One of the sofas shown in the photos here is no longer in the living room. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice for our group of 7 to have had a few more places to "sit soft." My biggest issue came after our rental. Kathleen was extremely slow in returning our deposit. She even suggested that we might be liable for damages we did not create -- issues that were existing when we arrived. As vrbo owners we are VERY conscientious renters, so it was a bit offensive to be unjustly accused. We were planning a return visit with other friends to explore wineries, but are now not as likely to return. My advice? Stay here, enjoy the beautiful home, but document the condition upon arrival and departure. And be prepared to wait for your refund."
