  • Wonderful Place to Stay!

"My family of 4- my husband and and 2 teens( 15 & 17) had a wonderful time on Swan's island. The house was great- had all the amenities and creature comforts for a wonderful vacation. My husband and I love to cook and bake . After his morning swim and my morning walk/yoga we spent a lot of time in the kitchen making all kinds of food we don't normally have time to make at home. Swans island allowed us to slow down rest relax and enjoy lots of family time. We took a beautiful walk to goose pond several times. The Quarry was also a neat place to hang out and swim. Our children became expert table tennis players. They got so good that they played with their non-dominant hand and still kicked my butt! They stayed in the small cozy room next to the house. They loved the privacy! The barn was also a great family hangout. Bill was very helpful in giving me suggestions of what to do. We didn't leave the island as we have been to Mt Desert island a few times before. I would suggest going to a large grocery store to stock up before getting on the ferry. This was great as we didn't need much once we got there and it's more cost effective. The owners of the store on Swans were very nice and accommodating when we did need something. This is the ultimate vacation away from home if you need to chill out. There are plenty of mosquitos so bring your bug spray if they like you!!! Our friends who originally told us about Swan's island cooked us the best lobster I have ever had. Of course it was super fresh and delish from a local lobsterman. Swans is supremely beautiful and pristine. You will not be disappointed staying at this beautiful home. Thanks Bill and Victoria!!"

  • Paradise

"My husband, our four teenagers and myself had a wonderful week. It was so relaxing. The house is so beautiful. We spent our days kayaking, swimming in the quarry. We spent our nights sitting by the amazing fireplace and playing board games. It was a wonderful family bonding vacation."

  • Excellent house for a large group

"Alpenhof proved to be an excellent choice for our small family reunion. There are two small downstairs bedrooms each with its private bath. For the two of us that are elderly these were great. The upstairs had a lovely master suite as well as two other bedrooms that shared a large bathroom with shower. I have rented a number of other houses over the years but this one exceeded any of them as far as the kitchen equipment. Whenever we needed a particular gadget, silverware, whatever all we had to do was look and there it was. The support to help with any questions or problems we had was excellent. After a couple of days one of the showers downstairs slowed to a trickle. I called the plumber whose number was listed by the phone and he was there before noon. Unbelievable! At home I usually have to wait a day or two before getting a plumber to come. On the esthetic side Alpenhof is surrounded by a lovely small forest which provides complete privacy. All you have to do is walk to the end of the long driveway and turn right for a few yards to see the water. Northeast Harbor is the ideal location for a vacation stay. It's only a twenty minute drive to the shops and restaurants of Bar Harbor. There are a few shops and restaurants in the village itself but if you are in the mood for more activity Bar Harbor is very close. Acadia National Park is also very close and provides many hiking paths and beautiful views wherever you drive or walk. We stayed at Alpenhof the first two weeks of June and enjoyed the cool weather since all of our group came from hot climates ranging from Phoenix to New Orleans. It was hard to leave. Everyone one of us would happily return in a heartbeat. Last but not least the owners were very easy to work with and quickly responded to every question I had about Alpenhof including detailed directions for getting there from the airport. All in all I highly recommend Alpenhof to anyone seeking a comfortable home in which to enjoy the beautiful rocky coast of Maine."

  • Wouldn't Stay Anywhere Else

"We always look for privacy and quiet when we book vacation rentals, and this one certainly fits the bill. Add charming and beautiful, with unobstructed views of a private lake and the woods of Acadia, and we found the perfect place. An easy and scenery-filled ride to Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor and to all sections of Acadia, we enjoyed every minute of our week long stay. The owner was helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. Book it now."
