  • Everything They Said is True

"Our week was so perfect we are coming back next year. The Barn is situated so it has views of the water from almost every room. And if you aren't staring at the ocean, you can stare in the opposite direction at the surrounding yard and gardens that even include 2 ponds. Country in theme and decor, yet filled with every amenity and detail a guest could want. The kitchen is so complete you can do some serious cooking. Even the knives are sharp - rare for a rental. Very comfy bed and bedding. Betty and Eric were so helpful about places to drive, hike and eat. And the one or 2 rainy times we had were perfect by the fire. The Barn was one of the best surprises we've had on a vacation."

  • The Best Maine Experience Ever!

"Dear Carroll and Maureen -- it doesn't seem possible that exactly one week ago today we driving away from Somerled for the last time. I want you know that my family had a spectacluar time! Four generations of my family (Mom and Dad, my three sisters, 4 nieces and assorted husbands and great-nieces) will never forget our visit to Maine and your wonderful home. It was spacious and beautiful. I must confess that I was a bit nervous driving up that long gravel driveway, but once you get there -- oh my -- you never want to leave! We've rented many homes in Maine, other States and in Europe and I can honestly say that this was the best. Beautifully maintained, fully stocked beyond my wildest imagination and a million dollar setting. That view is incredible! I looked forward to getting up every morning and sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee to watch the seals swim by and the lobsterr men pulling up their traps. We spent a day in Acadia, took a great whale watching cruise out of Lubec, drove over the Campobello and even found some time for relaxing. We dug for clams and made a huge pot of clam chowder. Picked wild blueberries. Made our own lobster rolls. It was the quintessential Maine experience. If you'll allow us, I feel certain that Jeff and I will be back. Perhaps next time with friends. Thank you again for making your home available to us. Please know that if anyone ever asks you for a reference, we'd be happy to extol the many virtues of Somerled. Sincerely -- Don and Jeff"

  • BEAUTIFUL LOG CABIN AND SCENIC AREA

"Having stayed the previous year at Chris and Diane's vacation home (property listing #3742163) near Lubec, ME, we decided this year to visit their other "Down East" vacation home close to Machias, ME. As described and seen on the photos, amenities will abound during your stay at their beautiful "Log Homestead". The lovely village of Machias is nearby for you to explore at your leisure. Jasper beach (where you can actually lay on the warm sunbaked flat stones) and Roque's Bluff State Park are just a short drive away. Swimming, kayaking and other outdoor activities are possible at the ocean beaches. If you prefer at the lakes, both Six Mile Lake and Bog Lake are just minutes away from the homestead. I personally enjoyed hiking and biking the Sunrise Trail, but many other leisure and sport activities are yours for the choosing. One can also take a nice day trip to visit Acadia National Park and the picturesque town of Bar Harbor. I think what is most unique having stayed at the 'Log Homestead' is you have the benefit of two worlds. On one hand you have the beautiful , peaceful and private setting of a complete cabin in the woodlands of Maine and on the other, you have the nearby boundless activities that this area has to offer. Thank you again for allowing us to share in your beautiful home."

  • Rustic - very clean and in top working condition - a great retreat!

"I loved this cottage. It was clean and neat with everything working and in order. Sheets and towels were provided which was nice. If you go in cold weather, know that the thermostat works the gas stove. I didn't know that until my last night. It gets cold in Maine in autumn. Fantastic views! Unfortunately, I only had one day of sunny autumn Maine, but even with the cold and rain, I enjoyed the area, the hikes, and the friendly people. You are only 30 minutes from visiting Campo Bello."
