  • Absolute Perfection

"Recently spent a delightful, relaxing week in this home. The home is quite spacious, very clean, and with great views. Having been here a few times before we had already been to many of the sites. Most of our time was spent relaxing, walking, and kayaking. A real bonus is the small private beach that is shared with just a few other homes. We love the charm of Bailey Island and this fabulous home. We will return and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others. I would definitely recommend the Salt Cod Cafe for lobster rolls and baked goods, Morses Cribstone Grill for lobsters to go, and the Dolphin Marina & Restaurant in Harpswell for a fine meal. They are known for their fish chowder and blueberry muffins. There are other fine places but these are our favorite three."

  • The Maine of My Dreams

"I have wanted to see the coast of Maine since I was a kid and my friend went there to see her grandparents! It was all I expected and more. The Friendly Cottage was the PERFECT place to stay for our vacation. The homeaway description and photos were accurate except now there's even a full size dining table. The property was very clean and well stocked. I loved having a washer/dryer too. My husband and I were joined by our two grown sons, their wives and our 4 yr old grandson. There was ample room, a great kitchen (I boiled fresh lobster!!!) and a view that was breathtaking...from the bedroom and living room. We liked being near the end of the island with no visual obstructions to the bay and on to the ocean. We loved being in a community where we could visit with the local residents, watch the lobster fisherman check their traps and learn of their way of life. It's also near great places to visit. Maine Maritime Museum is a must see, we enjoyed lunch in the area general stores, it was an easy drive to Boothbay Harbor where we saw four lighthouses and less than an hour to Portland with Freeport (outlet shopping:) on the way. If I were to return to Maine I would not even consider staying anywhere else. Eric and Laurie live near, welcomed us upon arrival, gave us access to all the property and shore line (relaxing in the red chairs was nothing short of therapeutic), answered our questions about the area, and was available for anything we needed, which was nothing because it was great! Thank you Eric and Laurie! I've already recommended your cottage to several friends who are now considering a Maine vacation."

  • A vacation we soon won't forget

"What a wonderful stay our family had at the De Hart cottage on Bailey Island. If you haven’t experienced staying at an authentic Maine oceanfront cottage, you’re missing out. This cottage is in an ideal elevated location with spectacular easterly ocean views. The sunrises and moonrises were unforgettable and the large yard with outdoor patio and fireplace was perfect for cooking up yummy lobster dinners. We were so impressed with the sights and sounds from the front porch and most every room in the house. The owner’s efforts to assure our stay was easy and pleasant were much appreciated. Thank you to the De Hart family for sharing your cottage with us so our family could create our own special Bailey Island memories."

  • Best Vacation Rental Ever

"After only a short time in the house, my wife remarked that she could live there. The home is phenomenal! Extremely well maintained, very large, yet cozy spaces to spend time together. My kids loved the tree house and basketball hoop. Sitting on the deck in the morning was so relaxing. The owners even had recently added pumpkins throughout the outside, with Halloween around the corner, this was just a small touch that made the home feel even more like our own. The only drawback to our trip was how short it was. We will DEFINITELY be staying here again when we return to the area. Book it right now if it's still available! It's an amazing value and the owner is a pleasure to do business with! We had 4 adults and 2 children (ages 9 and 10) and there was room for more!"
