  • Already planning to go back!

"My family started talking about going back to the Homestead before our vacation was over! Our 8 y.o. twins loved playing on the huge protected beach with such variation of high and low tide and a short run from the house (digging, hermit crabbing, swimming). The sunsets were DIVINE (and I'll admit, we didn't make it up in time to see the sunrises, which I hear are great too!). The house is well stocked in the kitchen and accomodations and very comfortable. The location is quiet and relaxing, and you can easily get to nearby attractions if you are looking for more activity to occupy your time. The Johnson family is super friendly and helpful, you will definitely feel "at home" in their home at the Homestead. Looking forward to booking 2017 soon!"

  • Great long-weekend getaway for two

"We loved staying at the Nezinscott Cottage and will definitely be back! George was a very attentive and personable host, making a fire in the stove for us before we arrived and advising us on the different restaurants nearby. But he was also unobtrusive - there is a lot of privacy at the cottage, which we appreciated. He let us stay a bit later on our departure day since there were no new guests arriving that day, which was a pleasant surprise. The main floor of the cottage is very nicely appointed - the kitchen has everything you could possibly want, and the living room is cozy with plenty of games and puzzles. Both rooms are nicely decorated. We especially appreciated the large amount of dry firewood kept in a room off the kitchen! We were there over Columbus Day weekend and kept the woodstove going pretty much nonstop. It rained one day and we were so glad we didn't need to rely on getting wet wood lit (the cottage is heated only by the woodstove). The upstairs is pretty rustic - not a lot of privacy if you're there with a bunch of people - but for the two of us it was perfect. The full-sized bed in the bedroom upstairs was so comfortable! My husband and I are used to a Tempurpedic at home so we're super picky about beds in places we stay, and we both slept soundly and comfortably every night here. The location is perfect - the photos honestly don't do it justice. The view from the Adirondack chairs on the deck was fantastic - we sat for hours in the sun watching the tide come in. On our last morning a group of turkeys came up the hill from the beach and went right past us. Bailey Island is very laid back while still having several restaurants to choose from - a couple of nights we dined in Brunswick which has lots of options. The binder full of restaurant info in the cottage was super-helpful - on our last night we ate at a German restaurant in Brunswick that we agreed was one of the best meals we've had in a long time!"

  • Gracious Hosts!

"My wife and I had planned a trip to Orrs & Bailey along with our son and daughter-in-law to celebrate our son's 30th birthday. This was where our son wanted to spend it and it didn't take much arm twisting for us. What we didn't expect was to find ourselves under evacuation orders that week as hurricane Matthew approached our home in Charleston, SC. We needed to get out and called the owners to see if we could possibly check in a day early. They could not have been more gracious and understanding. We enjoyed the most spectacular weather in Maine as we watched the hurricane make landfall in our hometown. All to say -- our heartfelt thanks for this beautiful island get-a-way. Cameras cannot capture the views, the sounds of waves on the rocks, and the sweet scent in the air. Highly recommend this home, and moreover its owners. Thank you!!"

  • The Maine of My Dreams

"I have wanted to see the coast of Maine since I was a kid and my friend went there to see her grandparents! It was all I expected and more. The Friendly Cottage was the PERFECT place to stay for our vacation. The homeaway description and photos were accurate except now there's even a full size dining table. The property was very clean and well stocked. I loved having a washer/dryer too. My husband and I were joined by our two grown sons, their wives and our 4 yr old grandson. There was ample room, a great kitchen (I boiled fresh lobster!!!) and a view that was breathtaking...from the bedroom and living room. We liked being near the end of the island with no visual obstructions to the bay and on to the ocean. We loved being in a community where we could visit with the local residents, watch the lobster fisherman check their traps and learn of their way of life. It's also near great places to visit. Maine Maritime Museum is a must see, we enjoyed lunch in the area general stores, it was an easy drive to Boothbay Harbor where we saw four lighthouses and less than an hour to Portland with Freeport (outlet shopping:) on the way. If I were to return to Maine I would not even consider staying anywhere else. Eric and Laurie live near, welcomed us upon arrival, gave us access to all the property and shore line (relaxing in the red chairs was nothing short of therapeutic), answered our questions about the area, and was available for anything we needed, which was nothing because it was great! Thank you Eric and Laurie! I've already recommended your cottage to several friends who are now considering a Maine vacation."
