  • Cozy Home with Lots of Charm

"My wife and I recently stayed at this location for a couple of days and we had a lovely stay. They house is very comfortable and very clean. The owners provided valuable information regarding "Things to Do" in the nearby area. The house had a complete pantry of spices, coffee, etc. Very nice touch which avoids having to scramble for these type of items upon arrival. We had the Morese restaurant (four minutes down the road) cook up some lobsters that we picked up and had at the house. Much more affordable ($7/lb) and much more quite and romantic. Orr and Bailey Island is full of historically information and was a nice get a way. Overall, I would definitely recommend this location."

  • Lovely house, convenient location

"We had a great stay at the Lobsterman's Catch. The house felt roomy for our family of five plus pug. It was immaculate and comfortable, with a huge, well-stocked kitchen and dining room. The porch was a great spot to hang out and eat dinner. It was nice that there were gates to keep our pug on the porch. Every morning I would walk down to the little cove or across the street to Houghton Graves Park, a beautiful inlet. At high tide we swam at the cove or at the park on a tiny, rocky beach. During the day we kayaked with rentals from H2Outfitters, hiked at Giant Steps and Devil's Back, visited Freeport, and ate at Cook's (twice), Giant Steps Seafood Grill (great pancakes!), and had a picnic one day. We also got lobsters already cooked and ate them on the porch. We tried to eat at Dolphin Marina but there was a 2 hour wait! We'll try to make a reservation next time. Isis was very friendly and helpful! My only comment is that there actually isn't a waterfront view, as I was expecting. The cove is only 100 yards or so away, but there are two little streets and a row of huge trees in between the house and the water. So even though we could hear and smell the ocean, you can't actually see it. The house is described as ocean front, but that's a bit of a stretch."

  • Peaceful fishing hamlet

"Not wanting to stay in a cabin isolated in the woods of Maine, our family chose this place located in a hamlet on Orrs Island. Situated on several coves, all of them stunningly beautiful, we found the house to be peaceful and quiet. The cove is about 100 yards away and there are ocean views from the house. My younger kids went swimming and exploring the cove at least twice a day. Popham beach is about 40 minutes away and makes for a good day trip. As my wife and I like to run in the early mornings, the hilly terrain on Orrs Island provided a good challenge. It did mean running on the main road but we found most locals willing to drive around us during the run. Biking was also challenging but fun. Less than a mile away is H2O where we rented kayaks (paddle boards also available). There are numerous lobster shacks around and a couple of general stores for emergency supplies. As we were on the coast, the nights were cool enough to sleep with the windows open and avoid turning on the AC. Day trips to Brunswick, Bath and Freeport also provided distractions from the quiet although we preferred to stay locally and read books. The house is surprisingly well-equipped with a variety of literature to appeal to all tastes. As for the house, the kitchen and dining area are very functional (great gas stove!) and having brought our own coffee maker (Bialetti) and milk frother, we began each day with a cappucino while viewing the ocean. Although the showers could do with a little more water pressure, the washer/dryer combo worked very well for our daily washing needs. Our host Peter met us upon arrival and offered many helpful suggestions but stayed out of the way so we could simply enjoy the house and its wonderful setting. With five people using the internet every morning (regrettably) we found the wifi to be excellent - even stronger than our own back in suburbia. We have found Maine and this house so charming that we are quite sure to be back in the near future."
