  • Terrific home for large groups - oh, what a view!

"Our extended family had such a great stay at the Maxwell Point House! The home had everything we wanted: beach access, breathtaking views of the ocean, pool, hot tub, and enough beds and space for us all, plus they allowed us to use all their stuff from bikes and beach chairs, to lobster pots and crackers. Tia was super helpful. She showed us around the house and left us with recommendations for grocery shopping, restaurants in town, etc. Cape Elizabeth is a short drive to Portland with terrific shopping, restaurants, bars, ocean excursions, and so much more that we ran out of time before we ran out of things to do. We found a few good golf courses nearby (Nonesuch, Dunegrass and Riverside which is more open for the directionally-challenged golfer), a driving range where you hit balls into the water (what?!) and took a ferry from Portland to Peak's Island to rent bikes for a morning. Nearby, we would recommend The Local Buzz for coffee, bagels and breakfast sandwiches, and Alewives to buy live lobsters and farm produce. Of the two closest restaurants, the food at The Good Table was good but a bit pricey, and our meals at Rudy's were inconsistent. Portland was worth the (short) trip if you're looking for more choices in restaurants. Two we would recommend are Duck Fat for lunch and Ribollita for dinner, both on Middle Street. Overall, this was the absolute perfect house for us, everything was as advertised and then some - we hope to be back again!"

  • lovely cottage with beautiful views

"Our family of 5 stayed in the cottage during the Bowdoin graduation (2016). I echo the comments of the previous review.... welcomed by flowers, wine, and everything we needed (BBQ, blender, bikes, etc). It reminded me of the Maine cottages of my youth. It was a perfect location to easily get to events in Brunswick but have a 'get-away' to host friends and family for dinners. There are several tables of different sizes and lots of chairs and we were able to seat many on the porch on one beautiful evening, and then were able to set up dinner for 8 in the livingroom on a cool night. It was just perfect. we loved the walks around Mere Point and recommend getting lobsters and other freshly baked goods from the marina/store near by. When i inquired about picking up lobsters, I discovered the marina will cook lobsters for you and package them to stay warm and they baked rolls and a blueberry desert to order! I would definitely recommend this cottage for families. We hope to come back."

  • Great Southern Maine Vacation!

"Our family has vacationed in Maine for several years, in the Scarborough area. For summer 2016, we decided to look for a house, since we were inviting more family members. This house seemed ideal for our plans, and very conveniently located, so we inquired about it. The owner was very responsive, and fortunately our desired dates were available! We moved forward with planning, and were soon booked. Honestly, the contract adherence fee seemed a bit steep at first, but I do understand the need for the owner to protect the integrity of his guest schedule, and language was clear about the conditions to be met for it to be fully refunded. Through the entire process, the owner communicated consistently with us, and quickly replied to any questions. Also, he and I were able to become more "acquainted" through our email exchanges. Since I had initially been impressed with the positive reviews for this property and the owner, I felt even more comfortable with our vacation plans as we "got to know each other" while working out details. He even sent a reminder about full payment being due one month prior to our stay date - I appreciated this tremendously, since I had not put a note on my calendar! Shortly before our departure date, I received final home entry instructions via text, as previously promised. Unfortunately, other family members who had planned to join us for vacation were unable to do so in the last two weeks prior to departure, due to accidental injuries. When this occurred, I longed for the flexibility of a hotel reservation, since I could have canceled it without penalty had we wanted to. However, we still proceeded with our trip, just with 3 people instead of 7! When we arrived, it was evening; the location was easy for Google Maps to find. It was much more private and secluded than I had expected, which was great! The week went by tremendously fast, as all vacations do. My brother and his wife were able to join us for a few days, so we got to half capacity of the house for part of the time! The beach is SO convenient, and easily accessible through a neighbor's driveway - we spent two full days there. Though clean, the house didn't feel completely "fresh" on arrival, like we would expect in a motel - that was a bit disappointing. But, it was still a great place to stay for the week, and being able to do laundry made arriving home much less stressed! If the home is available again in the future, we'll likely return..."

  • Slice of heaven

"My family has been coming here to this home for nearly 10 years. The boys couldn't have imagined summers without being here. Now grown up my husband and I still can't get here enough. The minute we step off the ferry were in heaven. We completely decompress here like no other place. Love the people, love the privacy, sunsets, no thought of time, it's home for us!!! Thank you for sharing S&G"
