Recent Eastham reviews

  • Affordable, pet friendly, centrally located

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Eastham. This rental was more than sufficient for a couple traveling with 2 Chihuahuas. We really only used the master bedroom, but the second bedroom is on the opposite end of the house with an ensuite bathroom. Unfortunately, the bathroom nearer to the master bedroom has not been updated in some time (it has a quirky old time aesthetic but the sink barely let out enough water to wash your hands). The second bathroom was recently updated, but less convenient to access from the living and master bedroom area. The house is adequately furnished, nothing fancy, a little worn. A couple of the dressers appeared to be well kept mid-century pieces. Limited cable TV. Bring your own DVDs if you want to watch TV. Bring your own games too. The house is well stocked with towels and linens. Access to laundry was helpful. Kitchen is stocked with the bare basics. We were fine cooking for two but I imagine if you are cooking and serving meals to a larger group you might find the kitchen supplies to be limited. As others have mentioned, the bed in the master bedroom is less than comfortable. It's squeaky and the plastic mattress cover is annoying. A portable air conditioner is provided for the master -- it is not powerful enough to cool the whole house. The owner provides a single key to the front door. It would have been nice to have a key to the garage door too, as this would have made moving groceries etc from the car to the kitchen easier. Ant traps galore!! I suppose this was good because we didn't see many ants indoors. However, given that we had 2 small dogs with us, we were cautious about the dogs finding the traps and eating them. We greatly enjoyed the location. One can easily access the Cape Cod Rail Trail and businesses in Eastham. Get your bikes at Little Capistrano bike rental. Be sure to check out the bay and ocean beaches. Ponds are nearby too. 4/5 - stars. The house is generally more utilitarian than attractive. It's the no-frills nature of the rental that keeps me from giving it 5 stars. The owners could easily turn this into a 5 star rental by servicing one of the bathrooms, replacing some of the living room furniture, perhaps getting another window A/C unit, perhaps putting in a fire pit or making the outdoor spaces more usable. Also, the kitchen supplies are definitely limited if you have a larger group. Appreciated that the house was stocked with paper towels and TP."

  • Wonderful, tidy cottage close to the bay

"This cottage perfectly met our needs for a stay in the last full week of August. The location is unbeatable, as it is a five minute walk to the bay side beach. (As an aside, Thumpertown is probably not my favorite of all the bay beaches, it gets the job done. When the tide is out, there is much to explore. Definitely check the tide schedule, though, because there is virtually no beach when the tide is high.) It's a short drive to the commercial retail and restaurants that line Route 6, including the delicious Hole In One Donuts and our favorite for lobster rolls, Arnold's. Eastham has so much to offer for pretty much any outdoor interest - kayaking, biking, running, hiking. Wiley Park is close and worth checking out, as is Nickerson State Park. Of course the National Seashore is a great spot to visit. Don't miss the Salt Pond Visitor Center, which is free and has trails and lots of great information. The cottage itself is small, but works great for a family of four. The nice thing is that the square footage is all reserved for the dining and living areas, so it makes it feel bigger than it is. The screened in porch also functions as a third bedroom, so if you have kids who don't do well with sharing, this is a good option. Best yet is the outdoor space, including a Bocce court that wowed, new patio furniture, a large gas grill, a hammock, and outdoor games. In addition, there is a washing machine and clothes line. The kitchen has plenty of pots, pans, and utensils for cooking, with a full-size stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker with filters, and toaster oven. There is salt and pepper, but be prepared to bring any other seasonings or cooking essentials, including sugar for your coffee. You can pick up most essentials at the Eastham Superette just a couple of miles away. Overall, I highly recommend and would definitely stay again."

  • Cozy, cute, and quiet cottage

"Well maintained cottage was just the right size and price for some rest and relaxation. Eastham/Wellfleet area is quaint and not overly touristy as the SW portion of the cape. An easy bike ride to the bay beach or a more challenging ride to the ocean (tip: parking at the high school lot during the summer makes the ride shorter and saves on ocean parking fees). Great water pressure supports simultaneous inside and outside showers. Quiet and secluded picnic table behind the house along with some trees to support a traveling hammock. Miss this little spot of paradise!"

  • Far exceeded our expectations

"I am a bit reluctant to post a review of this little gem, because I am afraid if more people discover it, it will make it more difficult for me to get a reservation when I want to go back. And I will want to go back! “Million dollar view” is not an exaggeration! I could have sat on the side deck looking at the view of the water forever. If you have a kayak, you can even put in the water right there. Portside Cottage has all the charm you imagine in Cape Cod. I also loved the view from the kitchen sink when I washed dishes. I was astonished at how well stocked the kitchen is with dishes, cookware, utensils, appliances, etc. My husband enjoyed using the backyard grill. The utilization of space throughout is quite impressive. Everything is exactly where you would instinctively reach for it, and then you'll notice useful touches you wouldn't even have expected. The owner seems to have thought of everything. We found the bed to be very comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly large, with plenty of hot water. The internet worked well. We didn't know this in advance, but Eastham turned out to be the perfect location for exploring Cape Cod. We definitely hope to return."
