  • Beautiful Historic home in a perfect vacation setting!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maple Grove this summer. Chose this location so our entire family could gather to celebrate our son's wedding and to enjoy the area. The historic house is such a gracious, historic, comfortable place. Whether it was for hosting the groom and his groomsmen for breakfast or the family for dinner, enjoying quiet moments reading in the living room or relaxing on the porch (wonderful views of the beautiful blue St Lawrence River), gathering in the family room for conversation and viewing photos, or as a home base to see the many things in the area, it was just perfect. Photos of the garden do not do it justice. Kitchen may be small, but it is very well equipped and you will find everything you need to make meals for a large group. Double washers and dryers and 3 ½ baths were an added plus for our large group. As for sightseeing, you could go to Alexandria Bay to see Boldt Castle or take a cruise of the 1000 Islands, or go to Clayton and visit the charming shops (be sure to include the River Rat Cheese Store) and restaurants, but you could also take a ferry (May to October) directly from Cape Vincent to Canada's Wolfe Island (remember your passports!) and from there (at no extra charge) to Kingston, Ontario, very easily and what a pleasant ride! You can walk on the ferry, bicycle on, or drive your car. Another local attraction is Tibbett's Point Lighthouse and there are a few restaurants, a park, and a very nice grocery store right in Cape Vincent. If we did have concerns about the house or area, the caretakers were readily available and answered our questions. We enjoyed every day of our stay and would highly recommend both Maple Grove and Cape Vincent as a vacation destination."

  • We loved the property and everything it had to offer.

"We had a total of 15 people there throughout the week with ages ranging from 2 1/2 up to 68. Everyone enjoyed their time. The owners were very easy to work with and were very helpful. We would go back again. As our family gets bigger and older space would be limited. The property was well maintained, amenities worked, we loved Clayton and Cape Vincent!"

  • Fantastic sunsets and Jolly Island's privacy outweigh the the Island's flaws.

"The privacy and seclusion of having the Jolly Island all to ourselves was the biggest asset the Island offered. Our group had a great time enjoying the views and the breathtaking sunsets. Swimming in the clear water, floating on rafts, diving off the swimming platform and paddleboarding in the warm water exploring all Jolly Island's coast was also a fantastic draw over this hot summer. The space and size of the house and bedrooms is adequate for 15 , with numerous activities including hiking Jolly Island's coasts, interior trails, and wilderness we had plenty to do. The biggest issue our group had was the ineffective refrigerator. Although gorgeous in it's craftsmanship it could not maintain stable cool temperatures and the freezer was not in working condition. It was nice another freezer was present, albeit in the laundry room. Also the kitchen should be stocked better with better pans/more coffee cups to be honest if we rent this house next year we would bring a 6 pack of coffee mugs and just leave them there. A larger coffee maker would have been great. Another issue was the lack of knowledge with the property the person we rented the property through. We were instructed to bring bed linens, and arrive at Jolly only to find bed linens already there. Would have been nice to not have to lug up sheets and towels. Little maintenance details can make or break a property; over 50% of the screens were ripped or had holes, missing light bulbs in light fixtures, tape on walls and ceilings from prior celebrations, sofa slipcovers that really need a good wash and a better equipped kitchen with glassware and plate-ware. Despite the issues, my group and I would go back. Renting Jolly is less luxury house for the price and more akin to glamping. Having the wi-fi and Direct TV was a nice bonus for the rainy days. The house needs Ice cube trays!"

  • The best !!!

"Great home, great view, great location, and we had a great time! The property is just perfect and we recommend it to anyone that might be interested. This is the second time we stayed at the house and my wife and I are already talking about our next visit. Scott, who is the property's contact person, is always helpful and patient with any questions that you might have. We can't wait for our next visit! Rose and Bill Wheeler"
