  • Great, affordable place to stay!

"We stayed for a week in the Blackberry Suite and had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We had everything we needed and the family was a pleasure to interact with as well. The area is so peaceful and quiet. I also highly recommend booking a horse ride. It was worth every penny and then some. Thank you for a terrific anniversary."

  • Great for a 3 generation vacation

"Lakefront Retreat is Perfect. The 10 of us enjoyed ourselves immensely. The kitchen included seasonings, bowls with lids to store left overs, clips to fasten bags of food, plus 2 frig drawers & a wine cooler, as well as 2 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, 2 washing machines, 2 dryers & 5 full bathrooms. WE didn't USE one of the showers, nor the Jacuzzi tubs, or 1 of the dishwashers. Everything else was used including the Keurig, the waffle maker, the grill, both ovens, & both microwaves. Monitoring how many showers & machines are using water at any one time may help improve water pressure when needed for getting shampoo out of long hair. The 15 foot diving board was used by 5 of us. The others watched their antics! All the water toys were used in addition to the ones we brought with us. The pontoon boat was a nice trip 4 times. We'd anchor somewhere & jump in the lake. Granddad would take pictures of the different scenery. Bear Creek Marina was a convenient 24 hrs a day credit card site. The nearer marina was never open when we would have wanted to be out. The boat does require having at least 2 able people other than the captain to use it. The lake wasn't busy at all during the week, & not uncomfortably busy on Sunday. Young adults would SUP three miles or more at a time! Grandy would manage 0.5-1.0 miles paddling kayak or SUP. The movie theater was a real hit with the younger grandkids. Probably would have been with the young adults also, but the Olympics were calling us every night! Pool table challenged the families - kids vs parents, or sons vs fathers, or siblings competing with each other. The Wii Rock Band was great! Kids & parents took turns playing and singing! Foosball table got a real workout. Hikes in the nearby Catawba Section of Lake James St Park and the South Mtn St Pk were also fun. Youngest ones hunted Pokemon while grandparents watched and the older ones went to explore Black Mtn one afternoon & had dinner. The new house next door was moved into while we were there, so complaints about the building noise should now be finished. The house is 3 stories. The main floor can be accessed without any steps. The lake cannot be reached from the house without doing steps. Lake is very convenient, dock is close, but it is 2 flights of stairs down to the lake, so I'm not suggesting it for people with mobility limitations. Ingles Grocery and Wal-Mart are 8-9 miles away - takes 20 minutes. THIS IS A GREAT PLACE!!"

  • Lake Life

"This house provides the perfect lake life experience! We spent a full week here and enjoyed every minute. Beautiful views of the lake from inside the house and the semi wrap around porch. Swimming at the dock is fun and safe for children (children should always wear life jackets) and relaxing for adults. This is quiet section of the lake with little boat traffic and low wakes. Children and adults will be entertained by fishing from the dock especially in the evening. My seven year old son caught more than 10 fish one evening! Excellent spot for kayaking (bring your own or rent one from a local store/marina). The owner's personality is southern hospitality at its finest and my family is looking forward to renting this home for years to come."

  • Beautiful, clean, and relaxing

"The cabin was even better than we expected. Absolutely beautiful and very clean. The hot tub and waterfall were the best features and created a completely peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We have two kids (a 12-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl). They had a great time and enjoyed roasting marshmallows and cooking hotdogs over the fire pit. We enjoyed exploring the land surrounding the cabin and the peace and quiet, and especially the privacy of being surrounded by 9 acres. It is a little bit of a hike to get down to the lake from the cabin, but it wasn't too bad for us and we knew ahead of time that it would be, based on the description. The one and only thing that could have possibly made our stay just a tiny bit more enjoyable would be having a small dock at the cove to get the canoe and kayak out, and to fish off of. There are lots of things to do fairly close by and plenty of places to eat, though we ate most of our meals at the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will most likely stay there again in the future!"
