  • Comfortable condo by lovely Lake Lure

"My best friend, seven-year-old son and I stayed for three nights at Sallie and Alan's condo and had a great time. Sallie was very communicative and a pleasure to work with. We swam in the lake and the pool (which has a fun 'lazy river'), rented kayaks, took a boat trip around the lake (which includes the sites where 'Dirty Dancing' was filmed - you can rent the movie from the wellness center and watch it before you go!), ate a very nice dinner at the Lakeview restaurant and enormous, delicious ice-creams from the beachside cabana, and played mini-golf and other games. Having stopped at the nearby Ingles for supplies on the way to the condo, we didn't leave the resort the whole time! One thing we really liked about the Rumbling Bald resort is that all the facilities are close together, so you can park up in one place and walk between them. We also had access to them for the whole of the days we arrived and left, which was a bonus. The resort wasn't crowded during our stay. The condo itself was pleasant, with comfortable beds and effective A/C, which was important as it was HOT. Just a five-minute drive to the resort facilities. Neither the condo nor the resort are super-slick and modern, but that wasn't our priority. I was a little surprised to find that the screened porch had plexiglass windows, but it would have been too warm for us to sit out there without them anyway. The wifi was OK but cell reception quite poor for my network (Sprint). Lake Lure is a special place - swimming in the fresh water, surrounded by mountains, is an experience not to be missed. We hope to be back! Thank you Sallie and Alan for sharing your condo with us!"

  • Great Family Getaway

"We rented this house From May 20-24 and had a fabulous family weekend. It's not fancy or "modern", but it is cozy and well taken care of. Having a bedroom on the main floor for elderly parents was a plus. It made it easier for them to bring in their luggage and reduced stair climbing. There was also a deck on that level so plenty of opportunity for them to be outside enjoying the fabulous weather and views of the lake and woods. The master bedroom in the lower level was huge and it is very quiet and peaceful. We didn't use the third bedroom, but it had a nice size bed, half bath and a loft adjoining it for additional sleeping quarters. I might recommend a bit more lighting in the living room and bedroom for evenings. I'm a reader and there wasn't quite enough to enjoy that, fortunately, I had a kindle with me. As the owner notes, on this type of lake there are a lot of steps, so beware. We didn't have any problem with them and the trip down to use the dock and the pontoon were well worth it. The boat, kayaks, decks and the BBQ grill gave us a lot of activities for the whole family to enjoy. For the elderly parents, we simply took the boat to the marina to pick up and drop them off. There was free parking and easy access, as well as a nice visitor center with cold soft drinks. The Ingle's nearby is very convenient and provided a delicious birthday cake on one days notice. Tim was great to work with. Very responsive and answered any questions we had immediately and returned our pontoon deposit within days. He made some suggestions for eating and I wholeheartedly recommend Medina's! It is tiny and loud at lunch time, but the quality of the food at reasonable prices was well worth it. There is a laundry there if you need it and the cable TV worked great and had any channel you could want."

  • Had a great time in Lake Lure & Asheville

"First of all, working with VRBO/Emily was super easy--she was very responsive to queries, and her information about arrival was helpful and accurate. For the most part, the cabin was as expected. It looked just like the pictures, and was very clean; however, the deck needs a little attention, and the kitchen cupboards are getting a little shabby. As others mentioned, it was well-stocked, with games, movies, kitchen utensils, towels, bedding; in fact, it was so well-stocked, that there was very little room in the cabinets, drawers or closets for personal items. (For example, out of 5 drawers in the Master BR dresser, 2 had blankets in them, which left 3 for my husband and me to share.) We often moved/consolidated things so that we could have some space for our groceries and personal effects. We were hoping for a cabin with a fire pit, but instead brought a portable one along with a few lawn chairs, which did the trick. We were there 6 days/5 nights--very nice that we didn't have to rent for a whole week--and ended up in Asheville 3 times, which is well-worth the drive. Overall, its quiet setting is great, as well as its location, close to fun activities (boat rentals, beach, zip lining, hiking), a grocery store and Larkins, a great little restaurant on the lake; and it's very comfortable, offering great space for relaxing and unwinding--beds were very comfortable, too! Would definitely recommend, and return."

  • Lake Lure Time

"Just got back from our stay at your home and we are already planning our trip next summer. This home is perfect for kids & adults. We had friends staying in town and our place was "the place to hang". Lots of room for entertaining and having fun. The kids had a blast using the kayaks and jumping off the boat house. We could never do a house without it now! Spoiled. The kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of room for all of us to hang in the living room. Another positive about this property is it is located so close to everything. Ingles is down the street and getting to Chimney Rock is only ten minutes away to enjoy dinner out. It was a perfect vacation."
