  • Amazing mountain home

"We spent our family vacation in this beautiful property near Lake Lure, NC. We traveled with three teenage boys and the layout of the house was perfect for them because they had their own separate living area in the basement, including a full bath, pool table, and TV. This area is gorgeous and there's so much fun and adventure for all ages. Access to the resort was a plus to enjoy swimming, a work out or massage, or a nice soak in the hot tub. The boys loved the mini-golf! If you want a quiet day by the pool, try the much less populated Apple Valley Pool. The house is very well equipped with everything you need, including fishing gear and kayaks. We were able to relax at home if we wanted, or venture out to Chimney Rock, Asheville, Hendersonville, and beyond. We booked a zipline and rafting trip north of Asheville in Madison County, which was only about one hour away. I highly recommend the French Broad Adventure Company. The owners were always available and responsive to our questions and the home was beautifully cleaned and ready for our arrival. There are several restaurants close by, but I recommend venturing into Asheville or Hendersonville for some of the local food scene. The local grocery chain, Ingles, is two miles from the home and is one of the best stocked regional grocery stores I've seen in some time."

  • Stellar location. Good, old-fashioned lake fun

"You won't beat the location on Lake Lure. The set up with docks and boat house is great. All in all, we had a really enjoyable time, with the only problem being that there was too much to do and too little time! Hope to return again."

  • Idyllic setting - peace, and charm

"We stayed a full week, of which there was more clouds and rain than sun, and we had coughs and colds, but decided that if we were to burn PTO being sick it might as well be somewhere as serene and beautiful as Max's. Location on the lake is about perfect, not too far into a cove with views out toward the main lake, not far away from the town, and only 5 minutes from Ingalls - a surprisingly GOOD grocery store, with large produce section and even an extensive olive/mediterranean bar. We probably coughed and canoed 90% of the lake, and mustered the energy on the last day for a hike to Party Rock - believe the rating of strenuous, but also believe the description of best year round view of Lake Lure. (Be very careful with children and pets once up there.) Kitchen had everything needed and being part of the living area made it a pleasure for food prep. We are used to a more supportive mattress but still got good nights sleep. The shower is small but the pressure was good and the water hot! We have already shared the link to Max's with several friends who are considering vacation options."

  • Comfortable condo by lovely Lake Lure

"My best friend, seven-year-old son and I stayed for three nights at Sallie and Alan's condo and had a great time. Sallie was very communicative and a pleasure to work with. We swam in the lake and the pool (which has a fun 'lazy river'), rented kayaks, took a boat trip around the lake (which includes the sites where 'Dirty Dancing' was filmed - you can rent the movie from the wellness center and watch it before you go!), ate a very nice dinner at the Lakeview restaurant and enormous, delicious ice-creams from the beachside cabana, and played mini-golf and other games. Having stopped at the nearby Ingles for supplies on the way to the condo, we didn't leave the resort the whole time! One thing we really liked about the Rumbling Bald resort is that all the facilities are close together, so you can park up in one place and walk between them. We also had access to them for the whole of the days we arrived and left, which was a bonus. The resort wasn't crowded during our stay. The condo itself was pleasant, with comfortable beds and effective A/C, which was important as it was HOT. Just a five-minute drive to the resort facilities. Neither the condo nor the resort are super-slick and modern, but that wasn't our priority. I was a little surprised to find that the screened porch had plexiglass windows, but it would have been too warm for us to sit out there without them anyway. The wifi was OK but cell reception quite poor for my network (Sprint). Lake Lure is a special place - swimming in the fresh water, surrounded by mountains, is an experience not to be missed. We hope to be back! Thank you Sallie and Alan for sharing your condo with us!"
