  • Great House and Better Views

"This was my 10th stay in Lake Lure over the past 15 years. We love the area, and have rented many different lakefront houses over the years. Hence, our insight: Loose Moose Lodge is on the south side of the main E=W lake channel. Views of Rumbling Bald Mtn and Hickory Nut Gorge are unbeatable. The House was clean upon arrival, on par with other houses we have rented (which is to say "usable but not spotless"). Sleeping 8 in the 4 bedrooms is easily doable; more might be a squeeze. Note: all bathrooms are accessed through a bedroom, not from main living areas -- early risers and night-owls beware... The kitchen is well equipped (dishwasher is tiny) The main LR is perfect, with nice DR table and sitting area with great lake views. Outdoor seating areas are in good shape and private. The HVAC was overwhelmed: the LR/DR/Kitchen areas were 86 degrees in late PM/evening even though AC temp was set at 74 and unit ran constantly. To be fair: it was a hot week! The boathouse / deck are standard and in good shape. We asked (before booking!) if the water level under the boathouse was sufficiently deep for jumping into lake from the top of boathouse. We were told "yes, it is clearly deep enough." We always check before jumping and are glad we did because the water level under the top jumping area is barely 6.5 feet (thus unsafe for jumping). This was a huge disappointment to family members who love to make the Big Jump into the lake. This is a main criteria for us when choosing a lakefront house, and we feel deceived by the agent. Another disappointment is that there were absolutely no floaties, noodles, tubes or anything else with which to "hang out" in the lake. All past lakefront rentals came with these small amenities. The boathouse does not come with a kayak, canoe or anything else. If you want to do anything on/in the lake, you will either have to bring your own or rent your own. Disappointing. Finally, this is NOT an inexpensive Lake Lure Rental. It bills itself as "exclusive" and the rental charge and associated fees are the highest we have ever paid. To have an unequipped boathouse and an insufficiently deep lakefront (for jumping) is disappointing and misleading. The property manager we dealt with was prompt with replies, but not in the least bit friendly or concerned. We felt like a transaction and an annoyance, not like welcomed customers. In sum: great house and location, poor customer service from rental agency."

  • Amazing views

"Property was great! Tons of room for my family to spread out. Personal playground was an added bonus for us and our kids. Owner/operators were stellar."

  • Lovely home!

"We stayed in this adorable home with a few other couples. We all had a lot of private space as well as a lot of gathering space. Kim was wonderful to work with and was sure to keep us updated and just a phone call away. We loved the feel of the home and plan to bring some of our family up to visit. It was in a great area.... close enough to town and the grocery store. We loved it!"
