  • Beautiful location and lovely home!

"Summer Haven was the perfect spot for our family during our summer camp drop off weekend. The house is on a secluded lot with nothing but trees as your lovely view from the porch that wraps around two sides of the house. We enjoyed the porch for meals, playing board games (found in the house!) and sipping a glass of wine. The house itself is well-appointed, very clean and comfortable. We cooked two meals there and found everything we needed in the kitchen to make the meals. The beds were comfortable (all are on the second floor) and there were plenty of pillows and blankets to go around. The location itself is ideal for hikers and bikers. We did not bike this trip but my husband is eager to book this house again and spend the entire time mountain biking the trails in Dupont. The entrance to the park is super close to the house. You could definitely ride your bike to some of the mountain bike trail heads. The house has a notebook with info on trails as well as a couple of books. We took our 8-year-old and our dog on the loop trail that goes to Triple Falls and High Falls. It was an easy hike with pretty scenery and fun swimming holes. (By the way, the house is dog friendly – it is equipped with dog bowls, special dog towels and a book devoted to hiking with your dog.) The house is close to Brevard (took us about 20 minutes) and Hendersonville (more like 30 minutes through Dupont). There is a convenience store near the house with limited items and a beer garden at entrance to Dupont that looked like fun but we didn’t have time to try. Full amenities and good restaurants in both Brevard and Hendersonville (check out the great toy store in Brevard). West First in Hendersonville is one of our favorite restaurants. As noted in the listing, we had no cell phone coverage on either Verizon or AT&T but the wifi in the house worked well. Thank you Melinda for a great stay! We really hope we can get back there one day soon!"

  • No Room for Improvement

"What an incredibly delightful place! The very private location makes guests feel like they are living alone on that beautiful mountain. And yet, less than 3 miles down the mountain you are back to civilization. The furnishings are tastefully unique, with a rustic touch and gorgeous antiques. Being there was like staying at the home of a friend who was temporarily away. Our two grandchildren loved the Moonshine Shack and we all loved the serenity and view from the deck. With nearby Sliding Rock and amazing hiking trails, there is so much to do--if that's what you like. We grandparents spent our time on the covered deck in the very comfortable furniture, reading and doing needlework, while our elderly dog slept at our feet. How could it be better? P.S. The excellent and accurate photos cannot capture the warm atmosphere and beauty of the place. We plan to return next summer."

  • Clean, comfortable and relaxing

"My family and I stayed at the Flying Squirrel Lodge this past week! The cottage is very clean and comfortable! We ate a lot of our meals out on the porch! The porch has a good view of Trout Lake! There's so much to do in Sherwood Forest! My youngest and I played golf practically every day. There's a great pool there, fishing lakes, and plenty of hiking trails. Sally is great to work with!"

  • Home away from home

"My husband and I camped for three summers in Cedar Mountain but recently sold our little camper. This was the first time we've ever rented through VRBO in the area, and John's property was perfect for us. It felt like home from the moment we opened the front door. It's near everything we love most about the area: Dupont Forest with its wonderful waterfalls, Pisgah Forest with its waterfalls, nature center, and fish hatchery, downtown Brevard with the fantastic Transylvania County library, O.P. Taylor's toy store, Harris Hardware, and so much more. We had our grandchildren with us and felt very safe in the Sherwood Forest community. The pool and activity center provided us with great fun and super memories. The condo itself had absolutely everything provided that we could need (even though we brought lots with us). Detergent, hand soap, dish soap, trash bags, note pad, scissors, great pots/pans, basic seasonings . . . You get the idea. John was great about responding to our communications and very easy going about the rental process. We are already looking forward to returning. We just hope there's room on the calendar for us."
