  • Upscale Mountain Escape

"My Husband and I stayed at Aerie Retreat the last week of October 2016 for our honeymoon. While spacious for larger groups, we found it to perfect for an upscale, intimate hideaway. Aerie Retreat offers magnificent views even the photos provided cannot capture. The lake below is clean and beautiful, adding to the views. The same magnificent view is seen from the large windows in the living room. We spent much of our time on the screened porch, enjoying warmth from the large gas-starting wood-burning stone fireplace while relaxing and viewing the mountain range. The owner has thoughtfully provided comfortable outdoor seating, often missing from most rental houses we’ve stayed in the past. The lower level of the house also offers a large deck for sunning, views, and of course, the covered area with a 15’ swim spa, which was thoroughly pleasant. The interior of the house, open in design, has a warm ambiance perfectly reflecting a mountain cabin while simultaneously offering upper-end amenities. Newer, well-kept, well-supplied, clean. The master bath has a large soaking tub with a private view of the trees – an enjoyable way to pamper oneself! The kitchen is spacious for cooking, well-supplied, and includes features one typically does not see in rentals including a wine refrigerator and coffee bean roaster. The house was built by the owner and this contributes to the private home atmosphere which made our stay that much more comfortable and enjoyable. The house is in a well-cared for private gated area on a mountain, and gave us the seclusion we desired. It’s a lovely drive to the nearby town of Cashiers which had well-equipped grocery stores, markets, restaurants in all price ranges, as well as casual shopping. As others have mentioned, the owner is the perfect host, initially providing us with information regarding the house, followed by much appreciated recommendations on everything we mentioned in our correspondence – Peter’s personal attention made our honeymoon a wonderful respite and celebration we won’t forget. I would recommend using Peter’s excellent directions – although Verizon and google maps took us on a longer more scenic route which we would have sadly missed otherwise – we did loose cell service a few times and found our way due to my husband’s ‘inner navigation’. Peter’s route was faster and easier. Not only would we recommend this house in the mountains to families, it’s the perfect honeymoon hideaway or retreat for couples."

  • Outstanding view!

"We arrived in the evening and were blown away the next morning when we awoke to the unbelievably beautiful view. The house is up in the treetops with long range views of Lake Glenville. The kitchen is clean and well equipped with many small appliances and plenty of plates, place mats, napkins and more to share a meal while looking at the view. There was plenty of hiking nearby and renting a pontoon boat was our favorite activity. The owner texted us back quickly with any questions we had. We will definitely be coming back, thanks so much!"

  • Beautiful!

"We spent Thanksgiving 2016 here. We had an amazing time. The kids loved the kayaks and canoes. The view was breathtaking. We went horse back riding ad hiking to high falls. My husband and brother kept the fire going in the fire place the whole stay! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The only problem we had was the GPS did not work! Be sure you have a map!!! Especially if it's your first time. We learned our way around pretty quickly. Cashiers is a cute little town nearby and we had a great pizza dinner at Slabtown Pizza. Great get away!"

  • If you come for the views, you won't be disappointed . Very peaceful!

"The pics are just as described but there's no doing it justice unless you're actually in person. The surrounding property has them all with multiple firepits on the property to accompany the views. We took our 3 girls and my parents for a family getaway. Even brought their tiny little puppy last min due to a last min change of plan. You are 15 min from Ingles grocery store & about a 30 min drive to The Highlands from the property. Keep in mind, even driving a mile on this terrain takes much longer because of all the hairpin turns. The trip would have been perfect with the exception of a few things... Had some issues with the ice maker dispensing ice. No biggy. Dishwasher also wouldn't shut properly for whatever reason. And we had to have the property mgr come to the house to show us how to work the fireplace on the deck (no directions). He left with the assumption it wasn't working since he had started it many times before. But later on during that evening, I finally got it to work. That would have been a major disappointment as it was a huge selling point and boy did we use it. One thing that the owner doesn't tell you until last minute is that the trash compactor where you will have to take all your trash is NOT CLOSE. In fact it's a good 20 minute drive to dump trash! We asked the property manager if we could just leave our trash at the house since guests were arriving the same day and maid service would promptly be there at 10am. He said it was fine. But I was very surprised after we left, the owner messaged me and said she was charging me $50 for leaving trash bags by the door, even after communicating that. Mind you, there is a $200 maid service charge built in to the price of your stay which really takes the advertised "per night" costs up; in our case approx an extra $65 per night.. Maid service charge is a flat charge regardless of days and pet fee ($150) is a flat charge regardless of size or number of days. She made a concession for our 11lb min schnauzer and only charged us $100 or ($33 per night) which is still very steep. Seems unreasonable the price would be the same for a 100 lb dog vs a 11 lb dog. They are big dog owners themselves and the area is extremely pet friendly so that was a bit of a disappointment. Both those fees left a sour taste in our mouths BUT I digress; if you came for the views and a beautiful home, you won't be disappointed. Just be sure to communicate everything with owner as she is all business."
